Episode #261 : Season 9 : The South Pacific Adventures
Hello Friends,
Feeling unsure about the protection of the anchorage at Motu Faama, I decided to haul up and head back to Kia Ora Anchorage ahead of the Maramu winds that were forecasted to arrive later that afternoon.
After riding out a weeks worth of high winds at Kia Ora, I was finally able to head ashore, get fuel and provisions and prepare to leave Rangiroa.

You took $2500, a lot of elbow grease and a dream and created a magic carpet that takes you to places most people can only dream of. I know the upgrades and new engine were not cheap but I don't think you could have built a reliable world cruiser for less money. Now all of the hard work is paying off. Safe travels.

Yeah when I grew up my grandparents didn’t refrigerate eggs either now that ya mention it. They had cartons they’d pop the ones they got from the chicken coop that day into and they went through them so fast you didn’t have to worry about it.

you don't have to put them in the refer unless you wash them. The USDA requires they be washed so stores have to refrigerate them. In Europe they don't. They are just on the shelf with other unrefrigerated foods.

I’ve said it several times but have to keep reiterating, if you take the maps app on your find and zoom out, scroll to where he’s at and zoom in just a bit, it’s just water, that’s it, in every direction. If there’s a more remote place on planet earth you’d be hard pressed to find it.

I sailed back to fiji from there. During the queens day storm. I got pounded but not like the newzealand fleet headed for tonga did.. Fiji is my favorite.

Rolling in a boat is hard to explain to mom boaters, it's your body literally getting tossed back and forth, he understates what it's like, when you step on land your brain keeps rolling, it's a weird sensation, sometimes can last for days with some people, I don't know if sail as much as he does what that does to your brain, long-term, he's a out on the water a lot. I never looked into it but I guess if you haul up on land enough there'd be no issue, just curious, great watching you daily around the different places. Thank you.

The worst seasickness I've ever had was actually at anchor with a leeshore blowing like mad. The crew had all had a good run ashore and we were worse for wear. Amazing how one or more of us didn't lose their lives in the tender on the way back to the boat! That night after more rum on board, we didn't have anything good to eat so I found some digestives and a piece of Danish Blue washed down with more rum. Swiftly followed with my face in the heads for sometime! It was memorably bad

I asked if she knew how much money she had in front of her and of course, she said no. It’s amazing that such remote places have cell service and fresh water. And every time you show a local grocery store I’m at awe how they get all that stuff there. I think it would be interesting (at least to me) if you mentioned what prices are like for goods between different places you go, maybe pick one or two staples like a loaf of bread or a box of pasta and mention the price. The diesel you got ended up being like $5.80 per gallon, which is pretty damn good considering it probably has to be tankered over there.

There is no $3000 entry. There is an $1800 bond that can be gotten around by buying a refundable one way plane ticket out of the country and then canceling it and showing customs the ticket. is 22+ knots too much to just go for tahiti? like dangerous or just nerve-wrecking?
@SailorJames
@SailorJames Жыл бұрын
Not dangerous necessarily, as the trades regularly blow 20knots but the thing to know is it depends on if you are sailing into the wind or with the wind which makes a massive difference. Sailing for days into 20+ knots means you would only be making a few knots of speed and beating into big seas, this puts a lot of stress on the boat, the gear and the crew. So if you can avoid it then you do. Closer to Tahiti it was blowing 30+ knots at the same time
