Shenandoah
arranged by James Erb
(Lawson Gould)
O Shenandoah, I long to see you,
And hear your rollong river,
O Shenandoah, I long to see you,
Way, we're bound away
Across the wide Missouri.
I long to see your smiling valley,
And hear your rolling river,
I long to see your smiling valley,
Way, we're bound away
Across the wide Missouri.
'Tis sev'n long years since last I see you
And hear your rollong river,
'Tis sev'n long years since last I see you
Way, we're bound away
Across the wide Missouri.

@@brockdoesyoutubev254 I don't know if you will see this a year later, either, but for whatever it's worth, I don't think the OP is saying he was in this recording, which the description says was made in 2012, just a day before it was uploaded to KZfaq and just two years before Kyle's post. I don't think he is even saying he was in this choir, just that whatever choir he was in twenty years before his post (now 28 years ago) also performed the same song.

This speaks to the heart, Anton Armstrong. From a Lutheran church choir, to what this ensemble is and means today. It was a privilege to sing under F. Melius's son Paul C. Christiansen, Olaf's brother, from 1983 to 1985. We, too, concluded every performance with Beautiful Savior. In a conducting lesson given by Paul Christiansen at Concordia he shared a bit about his time in Europe. Like his father in Leizig and the Thomanerchor, Paul J. Christiansen studied abroad, too, and immersed himself in Gregorian chant at the Solesmes Abbey. I still clearly remember 36 yrs later him sharing how he sat on a park bench one day, maybe in Paris, and saw a newspaper page lifted up by a slight gust of wind, and how it settled down from above him, swinging lazily down: "This," he said, "is how to phrase plainchant - just this way." (based on my recollection)

Splendidly beautiful. I always felt like choirs underutilized the Bass 2 line in this song, perhaps because most choirs don't have men with that kind of range. But if you've got it, let it rip, and that's exactly what you guys did. Fantastic.

Simply amazing! I have sung this arrangement in my choir (a high school choir) and I thought we were alright, but boy! Anton Armstrong and his choir just blew us out of the water! The amount of passion put into this song by every single choir member is simply awe-inspiring, let alone Dr. Armstrong's obvious passion for this piece. I have been in a choir directed by Anton Armstrong, and he really is just amazing :) I hope our High School Choir can put as much passion into our music as this choir!
