It would actually be hilarious if it wasnt terribly written. Like, theres something golden about hardened criminals just tryna make ends meat. Like rome in fast and the furious.

There could be something funny there as satire; that even hardened big criminals can't escape the all consuming hole of privatization and rent, similar to how in Robocop corporations having control over the justice system for a dollar. But like in Robocop it requires a lot of cleverness, wit and soul in the writing to make it work: something the writers for this game evidently lack.

Blackwater mercs apparently make $9k a month. It might have worked if they made it a kind of dystopian cyber-city, where life is cheap and death is common, but then they wouldn't be making a Saint's Row game and these annoying brats still wouldn't fit in.

The tonal shift between the second and third game is really noticeable and even though the third was fun, it started the series trend of trying to cram every over powered weapon and raunchy joke in the following games effectively leaving no room for sequels because they overstimulated their audience. Honestly, they could have brought back the series with the reboot if they took inspiration from the first two games and put a new creative spin on it

@@telecentric2103 i do agree...but i will say, it's not sr3 as a whole to blame, i'd say that it was that one mission where you have temporary powers that is the big culprit. along w/ the humor of that mission, it directly contributed to sr4 existing. even then, sr4 had at least a small bit to like about it compared to this game, which i wouldn't even call it a saints row game.

none of the devs of this were devs of any previous saints projects or any AAA release ever. everyone in charge of this only made mobile games prior to this

SR2 was the perfect amount of goofy and serious, and definitely the only game out of them that was a serious GTA competitor. 3 and 4 felt like they were written by a teenager with unmedicated ADHD, fun but pure cringefests

This is what happens when the creatives get abused by greedy corpo scum, forcing them to leave the business. The empty soul of the original art is used like a flesh mask on a mentally ill sociopath trying to emulate the original idea while completely missing the topic. Long story short, Charlie is doing the opposite to help stop this by showing the game and promoting it, even just by criticizing it. I cant believe that I was worrying about the "wokeness" of the game. I should've worried more about the actual gameplay. Not to mention how bad the graphics are, I legit thought Charlie was playing at the lowest possible graphics settings.

Saint-Row 1: mostly serious satyre/rip-off of GTA San-Andreas, serious story, serious universe Saint-Row 2: satyre of the GTA franchise with humour focusing on over-the-top action and gap between serious scenes and it's absurde/cartoony universe saint-row 3: parody of itself, family guy type of "ahaha funny", filled with references, everyone is a cartoon character living in a cartoon world saint-row 4: parody of a parody of it's own-franchise, ahah dildos and funny BDSM jokes, everyone is a cartoon character, gave-up any ambitions of building a serious world i can't even begin to imagine what saint-row 5 would be

I won't lie, I didn't have that issue and managed to really make some nice looking characters in the Demo; but it was insanely limited for what they promised.

I know i may have exaggerated about them all being useless, but the main issue with most of the face parts was that they were like 20% deeper or wider than each other resulting in them looking like some weird glued on clay blob rather than facial features. The old games weren't exactly perfect, but they were leagues better than this.

@@TuffMelon oh nah it was still Mid at best, I fucked around with the Male first as I tend to always play male, then female in games with character customization. The female side of things deff highlighted the shortcomings for me, as all the faces seemed to be just slight edits of one another. Tbh I always am let down when devs claim “ground breaking customization!” And it is just sliders. I think, even though it was a pretty mid game; Fallout 4 ACTUALLY had a very in depth system where you can make basically anything. I 100% agree that each option was just a bit wider or narrower but; I tend to spend an obnoxious amount of time fiddling due to OCD and my love for making decent looking characters.

Some things are better left alone than strung along by soulless corporate execs for a quick buck. The way I feel about SR is the same with Halo after Bungie closed the book on it with Halo Reach, its legacy should've been left alone instead of transformed into something unrecognizable. You see this happening with a lot of tv/movies/books being rebooted or adapted as well to be "brought up to modern standards," the result is you get amateur schlock seemingly made by people with no actual experience writing and directing quality movies only to be defended by the most fringe communities on Reddit/Twitter. If you go to the SR Reddit you will find people saying "If Volition goes bankrupt, it's bad for all of us"... No, if they go bankrupt it's literally the result of them driving their only good franchise into the dirt for years.

SR4 was great too imo but just a lot different, this game isn't even bad in a funny way

SR3 and 4 still felt like they had a good balance between goofy and serious, SR4 moreso but the simulation part opened up a lot of the possibilities to be as goofy as they want, and honestly it really did suit the game because there was still a story to be told. they just wrote themselves into a corner...
