How to setup FSX with the Saitek X-55 Rhino HOTAS

Here we are configuring the X-55 Rhino HOTAS for FSX. Once configured, we take flight out of San Diego Intl in a Mooney Bravo. Quite an informal brief, but this shows how you can quickly get in the air with a minimal amount of configuration and just enjoy flying. Order that Rhino now, you'll be glad you did.

I know! I spend days trying to optimize a mount for the throttle! Solved that, now it's forever on HOW TO BEST assign 100 airplane functions to the HOTAS! Preferably a layout that works in as much overlap as possible between an F/A-18 and a Cessna (To reduce the switching time needed to adjust and retrain all my instinctive actions). Assigning an OPTIMAL HOTAS key-binding layout is AGONIZING! And I hate how Saitek doesn't include a simple flaps stick because GOD forbid that disuade you from buying their big desk-mounted plastic flaps thingy

2 things we cant see the program view (its too small on your monitor so its even smaller on ours) and the volume isn't consistent! I noticed this on a previous Madcatz/Saitek video. thanks for the video through.

having problems, any time I cant get it back to ideal even with the throttle fully closed tried everything including calibrating any1 have any suggestions ,would appreciate .thanks

I have owned the rhino for three months and it's been working fine until yesterday. anytime i roll full left or right it will snap back to the center same for pitch works fine in dcs but not fsx. any ideas

Good video and for the most part it works. However my throttle is either all on or all off. and it doesn't produce the entire range of the throttle setting in fsx. It starts at about 50 % and i can't get it to go lower.

i own a x56 but the throttles are very sensitive so when i move the throttle just a tiny bit it skips 25% of the throttle in the aircraft and after that its normal any solution

How do you set up a "press and hold" key on the x55 Throttle for a transmit function?

For some reason, the "latch" function did not work for me. I ended up figuring it out by using an "advanced command/ macro" function for my transmit button (push to talk). Your key mapping software is excellent, but could you post some more detailed videos on how to use it? I had to look at old .pdf files on a google search from one of your old controllers. Greatly enjoying the new x55 HOTAS.

Jim Howell It's awesome precision cyclic controls and power management..Flying with the KB is savage compared to the X55 also recommend a set of pedals but the X55 has twist axis as well. Also DL Huey Man's sound mod for added realism. I will post a vid of my X55 in use w/UH-1 and my profile I made.

cool looking forward to that video..also i downloaded a sound mod for the UH-1 2 days ago it was the 2.0 sound mod. I am also in the process of upgrading my whole system i will have to get motherboard and cpu. also going to get the new gtx750ti gpu.

Hi I just bought the Saitek X-55 HOTAS and I cannot adjust the friction knob by the side of the throttle and I am scared to put some muscle into it as I might break the knob off the shaft. I take it that this friction adjust should normally be easy to move so maybe mine will have to be returned to the vendor I got it off locally. Would appreciate a reply on this soonest. Thanks.

How did you configure trackIR to work with Fsx? I was flying the f-18 today with the x-55 and my view was super close to the hud. I tried everything I could think of to make it so that my view was backed up enough to view more of the cockpit but nothing worked.

jedimasterkyle Hello, I don't own track IR but I believe the closer you are to track IR, the more zoomed in your view, you may need to calibrate your dead zone/centre point for where your head is positioned; I'm guessing 3 months later you've prob figured this out already :-)

saitek how to fix the calibration on x55 throttle i use x55 for FSX X... when my throttle is on idle insted on 21% it hits 25% of power so the aircraft start slowly moving.. please replay

I got a little annoying issue with the throttle not going back to idle after throttling up and going back to idle, any way I could fix that? already calibrated twice still no luck both in fsx and fs9 :\

I'm having this problem. In fsx crj can't get power below 65%. Calibrated a dozen times. I have had it working in the past, but some years later forgot how i solved the problem.

Hey Saitek, I purchase my Saitek recently and I'm having some issues with the calibration of the throttles. I purchase the setup for use with FSX, however, while using the throttles, I realized that even though I have the throttles on 0%, on the aircraft it is stuck at 12 to 15 percent. I have tried everything possible to have this configured and the same issue continued. Can you guys help me out here because I am ready to return this system.

+Keston Puckerin I'm having the exact same problem, except mine gets stuck at 25% when my throttle is at idle and 75% when I'm at full throttle. Were you ever able to figure out how to fix it? I'm becoming frustrated with this product, I think having the 2 separate USB connections messes things up. It confuses the game or something. I play Flight Simulator Steam.

The video is wrong concerning the throttle, you have to put the sensitivity to the max (127) not 100, or you can never have the maximum power of your plane (you can check by pressing F4 with sensitivity to 100, the throttle will continue to move up with the keyboard) with sensitibility to 127, averything is working fine (pressing F4 to the max or the throttle to the max will do the same thing).
