Synopsis: Based on the Stephen King novel, Ben Mears (David Soul) has returned to his hometown of Salem's Lot to write a book about the supposedly haunted Marsten House that resides on a hill overlooking the small town. His project is curtailed, however, when he finds out that someone has bought the long-empty property. But when people around the Marsten House start dying mysteriously, Mears discovers that the owner of the mansion is actually a vampire who is turning them into an army of undead slaves.

@@uriel4829 everybody is entitled to their own opinions. I myself thought this movie was and is still terrifying with the ominous atmosphere. How you don't see Barlow until aboit an hour into the movie, and even when you do see him, it's only in small amounts so his appearance is all the more effective. The movie may have changed some things from the book but I think it works well on screen.

I’m 51 now and it aired on UK television as a two part series. I don’t remember how old I was when I saw it but I absolutely loved it. Our family had just got a VCR so I was able to record it. A couple of years ago I had night terrors, I was absolutely frozen stiff, dreaming about The Master, I woke up in such a sweat I knew there was only one cure, I got up and watched the entire thing from start to finish. Thanks Steven King, it’s an absolute classic that will always live with me.

This was shown in the theaters where I was as a kid. Theater was packed and 100 times more intense in the big screen. People were screaming then laughing from fright. Definitely one of the best experiences. It would be cool to do an exact remake of this but of course with enhanced special effects on top of what was already great. If I had money, that’s exactly what I will do, of course add more scary scenes and modernize it a bit, but I will keep maybe 90% of this masterpiece.

this movie was made in *FERNDALE* California. i went there in 2019 and that place is cute. it truly has an old town vibe. However, i was in a store that had 2 floors. i was upstairs but was getting this feeling i wasnt alone. So, i started praying to God through jesus. all of a sudden i felt horribly sick like i was going to faint. soon as i left the building the sick feeling went away. really bizarre

Creepy. I'd love to visit Ferndale one day just for the experience of actually being in "The Lot." Coincidentally I live on the north shore of Massachusetts in Manchester which is right next to the town of Ipswich where they just finished filming the remake. It's due out in September. I know it'll never be as good as the original but I'm curious just the same.

Though it's out of my era of interest, I really enjoyed this movie. A couple things about it that I wasn't crazy about, but who doesn't love a good, creepy James Mason performance?! Also, I loved poor old Lew Ayers in this.
