Proud ex Muslim here, I can freely proudly say Islam was all forced on me by My mother, father, cousins, uncles, aunties and my whole generation. I never had a connection with Islam from birth and still don't have any connections with Islam but Negative vibes and thoughts its why I had to disown my whole family to save my me. Islam was forced verbally and physically on me from birth even though I Showed signs towards my family that I was Different and liked different things, I was beaten out of my world and told haram, haram, haram. Being born and raised in Australia with Sunni Muslim Lebanese parents that are highly strict Is a mental health Bomb waiting to go off.

That's sad but once you discover your own the religion you will see that it is a beautiful religion actually, the majority of us are forced to practice it without knowing the reason behind it, without knowing the meaning of everything and unfortunately most of the time, parents don't have the wisdom to teach it correctly

No one cares about Salman Rushdie or wants to kill him, not even muslims. His publicity didnt come from the book, it came when Iranian Leaders whined about him. As for the book its really your average "Islam bad!!!" There isnt anything of actual merit there, youd find the same arguements and statements if you went to r/atheism on reddit and asked "what do you think of Islam" TL;DR Book is useless, Author got famous for being called out. As they say "Any publicity is good publicity"

@Kers Pertt What you just said is completely ridiculous. Salman risked his own skin by publishing this book to the public. It was a genuinely great book, with interesting characters, complex plots and interesting concept. This book promote critical thinking in subtle ways like allegories or the experience of characters. While yes it has a lot of critical view point about Islam, often ridiculing important Muslims figures, he still had the balls to publish this book and keep it publish even after the fatwa of Ayatollah Khomeini, demanding his death. There’s has been multiple assassination attempts on his life, because he dared to criticize Islam, because he dared to call out in subtle ways immoral practices promoted by the Quran. I do believe that his mockery of Islam is also important. While I’m not a fan of what type of mockery he did, I still respect the intent behind them. Salman used this method, because for many times, ridicule has been a weapon against tyranny and fear. Ridicule obstruct the fear that is pushed into people, it remove the seriousness of the idea, in this context it remove the seriousness of Islam to simply show how ridiculous Islam is with its many “fantasy” stories in the Quran. This is why it was so controversial, it did what no Muslim,ex-Muslim or Anti-Theist did, he dared to criticize and ridicule Islam, and in doing so, he caused a great controversy with Muslim communities. So, without due respect, there are people who cares about this book and this man, unlike what you think. Hopefully, you will comment in a reasonable and thoughtful manner.

@@Flow86767 The classic scam of making something vague and wrong so that idiots think its deeper than it actually is. "Risked life and limb!!!" Oh please he published it while sitting his ass in a hotel room, "the fatwa by the ayatollah!" The Iranian Regime as stupid as it is is barely a threat, they attempt to assassinate everyonr and they always fail, Salman Rushdie wasnt even touched, but lets look at someone who was actually close to assassination, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, the country known to be the arch-nemesis of Iran at this point, iranian agents were 1 button click away from blowing up an entire cafe killing dozens including the foreign minister and secretary of state, the ayatollahs are a joke, not even muslims respect them, so telling me "risked life and limb" is quite bullshit. The rest of your points like "genuinely great book; interesting concept" are nothing but subjective opinions, the book is based on a shi'ite belief, and thats why it failed to touch or "strike" islam, when you look at the "immoral acts" it called out you notice everything is taken out of proportion/context purposely to try and jab at islam. In the end nobody wouldve given a shit about this book as its another offensive book in a drop of offensive books, the only reason people glorify it was because the dumb bearded mini-terrorist ayatollah blabbered about for a few days about it.

@@kp5602 What weird spin could you be trying to put on all this? Your crazy religiosity is showing, and it is not flattering. People connected with the publishing of this novel WERE murdered, a great portion of the Muslim world pitched a bloodthirsty pissy fit, everyone from leaders of countries to supposedly 'moderate' Muslims to the pathetically brainwashed Cat Stevens called for Rushdie's murder. (Much to brighter Westerners' embarrassment, even secular liberals rushed to defend the poor religious fanatics in their deep 'hurt' and offense.) There are hordes out there still salivating to get their hands on the author and do their holy Islamic duty. If you actually sit down to read it--not a chance, right?--'The Satanic Verses' is an entertaining and thoughtful work, actually intended for an intellectual Muslim audience. (Is there really such a thing, though? Rushdie greatly underestimated the fanaticism and stupidity of his intended audience, apparently.) The book does not go out of its way to offend. It does not humiliate or mock your prophet. It simply refuses to accept the origins of your religion--any religion--as supernatural, magic, fairytales come to life. Yes, it is written from an atheist's perspective, and there is nothing at all wrong with that. I personally am exceedingly PROUD to be an atheist. Ours is the brave, accurate perspective that embraces the truth of what science and reason have revealed to us about this reality we inhabit. When the human species comes to an end, it will be thanks to people like all those extremist fruitcakes who tried their hardest to murder someone in cold blood for writing a novel.

Satirical magical realism piece in response to Salman Rushdie stabbing..... This is what my fellow Muslims should do when someone insults our great Nabi (SAW)? I believe that when someone insults our Nabi (SAW) it is nothing but a test from Allah'tala. Allah is testing us to ensure we maintain our composure, our restraint, our patience, our tolerance against those who degrade the image of our beloved Prophet (SAW). Whenever we detect an insult, we should approach those who have no respect for our Nabi (SAW) and embrace them with compassion and humility. We must do this to show how amazing Islam is - in that we persevere in the face of hate and criticism. We must love and respect those who hate our Prophet. These are the teachings. When these evil people see what Muslims are, and what Islam teaches they will immediately abandon their own belief and accept Islam. Our beautiful deen will grow faster than ever before. Alhmadulliah. Allah will be pleased as we've passed the test and we will all enter Jannah inshAllah. What is happening now is a failed test. After every insult our Muslim brothers and sisters go on a witch hunt against those who insult, with assaults, killings, bombings, stabbings, death threats, violence, anarchy and general mayhem. Even those who silently support these radical Muslims are failing the test. Those who were thinking of embracing Islam will now turn their backs on the greatest religion of Peace because of these extremists. This makes Allah'tala very angry and you will bring his curse upon you. Once you fail the test there is no coming back. Jahanam is your final resting place.

Rushdie is a great novelist and the satanic verses is one of the most important books ever written. Old time novels like the bible, the quran, and the talmud have lost all of their meaning nowadays. These are "weird" stories from the past that no longer have any bearing on today's reality. You could state that these so called religious novels are mere reading stuff for the illiterate who are totally out of touch with reality as it is today. Question is should these outdated religious novels be banned as too many fools take these potentially dangerous writings a bit too seriously.

What is the punishment for blasphemy in Islam? There is no punishment in Islam for blasphemy. No such punishment is prescribed in the Holy Quran, or in any of the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad(sa). Islam promotes the need for respect of all religions for the sake of peace in society, but it does not set out any punishment for blasphemy despite the offence it may cause people of faith. We have evidence in the traditions of the Holy Prophet(sa) where Abdullah bin Ubayyee (Chief of the hypocrites) continuously abused the Prophet(sa), and opposed him severely in Madinah. When he passed away, the Prophet(sa) stood to offer his funeral prayers but was asked by one of his companions, “O Allah’s Apostle! Do you offer the prayer for this man although he said so-and-so on such-and-such-a day?” and “that he is a hypocrite!”. The Prophet(sa) ignored his statements and continued to offer the funeral prayers of the dead man. (Sahih Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 60, Number 192) The above example shows that the Prophet(sa) never ordered any punishment for anyone who insulted or abused him or God; on the contrary he went to pray for them that they be guided aright. If somebody uses foul language against any holy person or teaching, Islam advises to keep away from such people as The Holy Qur’an says, And when you see those who trifle with our signs then turn thou away from them until then engage in a discourse other than that and if Satan cause thee to forget then sit not, after recollection, with the unjust people. (Ch.6: V.69) A book “ Rushdie Haunted by his unholy ghosts ” is a good read on this subject. This book and other related subjects with original teachings of Islam can be found on website www.alislam.org

SIGNS OF ALMIGHTY ALLAH IN THE HOLY QUR'AN We shall show them Our Signs in the Universe and within their own selves, Dunhill it becomes clear to them that He is the Truth (Qur'an,41:53) A man can't see Almighty Allah therefore He manifested Himself in His Signs in the horizons (universe). If we study and research the verses of the Holy Qur'an we will find many signs that will guide us to the existence of Almighty Allah. One of His Signs mentioned in this verse: و جعلنا السماء سقفا محفوظا و ھم عن آياتها معرضون o And We have made the sky a roof withheld (from them). Yet they turned away from its portents. (Qur'an,21:32) Our life on earth is secured from all kind of space attacks like atomic charged solar winds come from the Sun and space strikes. Who can tell us 1500 years ago that our life on earth is protected by a protecting roof well guarded ? What if there is no magnetic fields/shields? Almighty Allah is the Originator of the universe and Creator of the Mankind. All such verses are mentioned in the Holy Qur'an guide us to the existence of Almighty Allah. Of course, no intellectuals that have the capacity to criticize and scrutinize religion, like Salman, would be faithful to religion. He did what most people wouldn’t, he dared to criticize and ridicule Islam, he dared to laugh about Mohammed. Just for this reason, this man is a courageous and great man, and the book he’s written is an international treasure. And he did prove his point to the fullest. Some Muslims were enraged by the criticism of their religions, took to the streets and rioted, burning copies of the book and cheering at the news of the fatwa ordering his death. This showed a major problem of Islam, that it’s ideology at its core, is promoting violence. Sadly, the one who are the most vulnerable to this violence are Muslims themselves. Wives who are deemed ‘unfaithful’ and are beaten by their husband, people who left Islam’s that are killed (in many Muslim country, apostasy is a crime, “resolved” by a death sentence, etc. It is sad that Islam is somehow ‘immune’ to criticism by bursting outrage of Muslim communities when it happens. Yet, ironically, it should be these Muslims that should be critical of Islam. If they had been indoctrinated to a point where they tolerate wife beating, death threats and killings, then surely this was not a free choice. They were born of Muslim parents, and were mostly indoctrinated in the Muslim faith, discouraging critical thinking, doubts and any questions trying to discern the flaws of Islam.
