Salmon fishing at Sion Mills on River Mourne 26 July 2012

11 жыл бұрынA day's salmon fishing with Andrew McGall his father, on the River Mourne at Sion Mills. On this occassion 'Mr Salar' got the upper hand but it was still a memorable and enjoyable day out.
Andrew is a Loop Akademi tyer (www.looptackle.com/loop-akadem...) and Loop pro team Ireland. He caught the ‘fishing bug’ early and now fishes mainly for Atlantic Salmon across Ireland and further afield, as well as large native ‘dollaghan trout’ in the Feeder Rivers of Lough Neagh. Ever since he caught his first fish on his own fly Andrew has been hooked on fly tying, and enjoys sharing and seeing others experience this first hand. As well as doing live fly tying demonstrations Andrew does online demos (Step by Steps) which you can see here on his KZfaq channel. Andrew is also a regular contributor to magazines such as Trout and Salmon, Chasing Silver and Fly Fishing and Fly Tying.

Great video, I fish the other side of the mill with my father...thankful for every minute I get with him down there and catching the fish is the bonus

Looked like a good day out, nice water and fresh fish running. Liked the fast forward bit, very comical. Pity none of them stuck it to the net, but as you say that 'fishing'. Chris

Cheers Chris, think I was almost more gutted than my Dad as it would have been his biggest fish!

thanks Fluticius and sorry for not replying earlier as I missed your comment! I would normally use a 14fter on the Mourne but my Dad was using it so I was using the 11ft switch. I was quite surprised how well it coped when teamed up with a shooting head. I could cover pretty much the same water as with the bigger rod and probably found it was less effort and less strain over the course of the day. Food for thought!

yes you can Fishingtrips - there are day tickets which you can get for the Sion Mills Angling club water which is where I was fishing. You can find out more details on the club web site (KZfaq won't allow me to add a link here but if you google them it will come up) cheers Andrew

Cheers Chris, I use a GoPro camera and then just use Windows Movie Maker which comes with Windows 7. It's quite easy to use but is a little restrictive in terms of what you can do

Music is a very personnel thing Gerard, a lot of people do like a backing track as it can add to the overall movie. If you are not keen on it or on a particular you can mute it and it wont then be an issue. Hope this helps Andrew

Smashing video, thanks for sharing. I see u were using a switch rod. Can I ask whats the advantage of using that type of rod over say a 13 or 14 foot double handed rod?

Great video, 5 years old and i have just viewed it.. Great river, have to Fish it sometime. Can you give any info about price etc to Fish here? Thanks again and Gutted for your Friend

Thanks Clive and yep that's just fishing, makes you appreciate them more when you land one! That was the Sion Mills stretch which I think is about £30 a day. You can get more info here sionmills-anglingclub.com
