Salmon Fishing - The Bigh & The Doctors, River Mourne - 9 & 10 June 2019 v1

Heavy rain resulted in a spate in the River Mourne. So the water levels were good over the following days with quite a few salmon anglers on the water in search for that elusive spring salmon. Saturday was spent on Sion Mills Angling Club water, ‘The Bigh’ located just outside the village. A pretty wet day with the water being slightly coloured and a tad too high for fly fishing, however it was improving. Sunday was spent on the Doctor’s Stream. Strabane & Lifford Angling Association. Again quite few anglers on the water with Kieran Cairns hooking two fish but unfortunately he lost both as can be seen on the footage. That was the highlight of the day, with not much more happening.

Hi Aidan, lovely film and musc. Ill be over this year for the Mayfly fishing. Is the Mourne expensive to fish the beats in your video as i wouldnt mind a day or two on it. It looks a cracking river. Cheers Ewan MacGregor (Scotland)

Hi Ewan, many thanks for the kind comments. Nice to hear that people enjoy the videos. The part of the river I fish is prodomantely shared by two clubs, Strabane & Lifford Angling Association and Sion Mills Angling Club. Day tickets are availble for both club waters and are possibly less expensive than Scotland. Sion usually has 30 day tickets available daily, howewever depending on the time of year and the number of salmon running the ticket are generally well sought after and it might be worth ringing the club to see if you can book in advance Tel: 028 81658027. 151, Melmount Road, Sion Mills, Co Tyrone, BT829EX. I think the tickets are about £30 per day for an adult and £15 per day for those over 60. Strabane tickets are available from the local town fishing tackle shop, Bridge Guns and Tackle. 19, Butcher St, Strabane, BT82 8BJ. Tel: 028 7188 0826 Ask for Sean (Scooby). I'm not sure what price the day tickets are, but they may be similar or possibly only £20 per day. Trust this helps and tight line for both the Mayfly and if you get the oppertunity for a days salmon fishing on the River Mourne. We my even bump into one another. Regards Aidan

It’s not a beat system. But there’s usually plenty of room. You might have to wait your turn on the Gravenue Pool but that’s about it. 10 times better than the Association water at Grantown on Spey. Best time is late June to mid August and you will always see fish unlike the Spey. Paradise
