The Salomon Serpent Trail 100km race is organised by Freedom Running and I first ran the race in 2017. Back then there were fewer than 20 runners. In 2021 there were nearly 200 runners. Let's see how the race has evolved over the last 5 years.

Nice vlog. Thinking of entering this after watching! I find everything a 'good idea' when I'm sitting in my armchair, in a warm room and full of coffee and toast! Looking at the profile the first 60k is downhill (on the whole, in the round, broad brush strokes) the last 35 k look unpleasantly flat(sic) with a slight uphill. Ive run (staggered) some ultras, but I certainly don't consider myself an ultra runner. I like the feel of asphalt under my trainers! Well done still being able to run after 100k I would be 'slouching towards Babylon' by that point! Hat tip to you 🎩 (Liked the music!)

Brilliant as always Stephen.. Would you reccomend this for me?? Very new to ultra running having completed my first this summer.. The downs link ultra. Looking to step up a distance so 100k seems the next logical step.. Plus its local to me... Sdw 50 and ndw 50 all fully booked up already unfortunately ....

Absolutely Brian. It's not pan flat but it's not too hilly either. Pretty forests and villages. Very friendly atmosphere and well organised.

Why torture yourself over that long distance. With half the length surely it can be more enjoyable, still a challenge, still lovely countryside.

I’ve no idea. All I can tell you is I prefer the longer distances. It’s about seeing where your mental and physical limit is. To be honest this particular race doesn’t even bring me close to those limits.
