Every E93 Owner Should Do This! Convertible Seals & Hinges Lubrication to Prevent Leaks & Rattles

Part of E93 ownership is every year I lubricate the rubber seals and hinges for the hard top mechanism on our E93 M3 to prevent leaks and rattle noises from high mileage wear & tear. BMW recommends Gummi Pflege Stiff to restore rubber and protect it against UV sun damage over time. Overall this is an essential maintenance to keep your BMW roof convertible reliable and avoid an expensive repair. Thanks for watching!

I've got a leak from both corners of my windscreen (the rubber bits) .. is there a drainage point there that could be blocked? Just ordered Gummi and silcone oil to do the roof maintenance. Hopefully that'll sort the leaky bits. 😄

Can i use wd-40 for lubricanting hinges?

You can, but it won’t last as long as silicone lubricant or grease, wd40 tends to dry out quicker.

Possibly. You should still do this to keep your top running smoothly.

@@Sals_Garage I agree. But what I meant was that I have no leaks inside with the windows up. but if it's raining and I crack my window down, I get water running in through the window. From the top front of the window (a pillar area). My E46 M3 convertible was the same way. Do I just have to live with this with a convertible? Or is there something I can do to stop the water from coming in when I have the window cracked open? Thanks brother.

@@corbettdennis6246 I was having the same issue - there's a drainage hole/tube that runs down inside the length of the seal between the front window and the windscreen, which had gotten clogged with dirt and wasn't allowing water to drain. I carefully cleaned it out with a toothpick, problem solved. Try and pull the stuff out of the hole, rather than pushing it in.

Yea there is a drainage port along the A pillars outside. Also the conical pin washers up front might need to be adjusted for a tighter fit of roof and rubber seals. Good luck 👍
