Using the Elecraft KX2 to do QRP ham radio CW work on a mast. This 9:1 antenna on the KX2 is a winning combo. Watch me make QSO contact after QSO contact.
In amateur radio, QRP operation refers to transmitting at reduced power while attempting to maximize one's effective range. The term QRP derives from the standard Q code used in radio communications, where "QRP" and "QRP?" are used to request, "Reduce power", and ask "Should I reduce power?"
QRP KX2 “stealth” transceiver can go wherever your imagination takes you. Thanks to state-of-the-art construction techniques, it’s only 5.8 x 2.8 x 1.5” and weighs just 13 ounces-making it the smallest full-featured HF radio on the planet.
Yet it puts out up to 10 watts, covers 9 bands, and shares many features with the KX3. It also works with the KXPA100 amplifier.
To maximize your freedom to roam, you can outfit your KX2 with an internal 2.6 amp-hour Li-ion battery. Current drain is as little as 135 mA, yielding up to 8 hours of typical operation on a single battery charge. There’s also an internal automatic antenna tuner module (KXAT2), which can tune a random wire, dipole, or whip on multiple bands.
A rear tilt-foot angles the KX2 for use on any surface, from desktop to park bench to rock. The KX2 also makes a great moble rig, and can even be used hand-held. It includes a built-in mic for HT-style operation.
The KX2’s powerful 32-bit DSP offers features dual watch, stereo audio, user-programmable filter bandwidths, noise blanking, noise reduction, and auto-notch. RTTY and PSK data modes are built in-no PC needed-as well as a memory keyer and digital voice recorder for transmit.

Love the videos Tom, had to laugh at the fuel scene. "we're lucky here, the gas is..... WHAT THE HECK?!!!!!" hihi Gas Price is clear at 3:28, the price is $2:79... not sure what happened there, unless $2.29 is cash price and what you paid is pay at the pump price. I know we see a lot of those trixter prices here in South Texas. Anyway, really enjoyed the video. Love the Jeep.

I grew up out in the country, nothing like it! Very peaceful! I’m not crazy about big cities either! I like portable operating, with my kx3 or my FT-818. I do mostly cw. Maybe we’ll catch you on the air one of these days. By the way, I got gas here in IL. 3.35 a gallon.

This is a great video. Car/adventure-exploration/radio. Reminded me of your storm chasing vids across St Charles and St Louis counties, but different. Throw in the wind turbines and that weird digging scene and it’s truly unique.

HOLY Cow! Of course I remember you. I consider you my OG Elmer! You helped me fix my KX1 radio kit. I was ready to throw it out the window. I remember your house too, you had a player piano, and an antenna in the attic and a long wire out the back yard. You also built that Elecraft kit.

Great adventure, waay cool..... worth a subscribe.. by the way, For emergency or hand-held use, the KX2 includes a built-in mic, located to the left of the AF/MON control. (There's a small hole in the panel at this location.) The built-in mic is automatically turned on when no external mic is plugged in. Tap XMIT to transmit.

Well I"ve never been to a salt flat or lake. so thanks for taking me along Tom that was great! antenna worked out fine, made few qso's found some selenite? was it. not sure what it is or what it's good for will half to check that out. as for the Wind "Turbine." I tried to post a picture or the one we have about a mile away on mt top I can see it from my shack window and when we sit out on the deck in front of the shack window in the evenings we can hear it swooshing. actually sounds like a jet with the rumble sound it makes. not too loud but enough we can hear it fine with our old ears. thanks again for another enjoyable adventure Tom 72 gud dx de Ellis WA1RKS
