The idea that the owner could mess up for years, sell the team for a huge profit, then be 1st in line for a new team is insane to me.

It may be insane to all of us, but it also helps the league avoid a lawsuit from the current owner and find a new owner, this is probably the NHL calling current ownerships bluff on being able to build an arena.

Sometimes I wonder how many more options the Meruelo led Coyotes might have had land-wise if he was just willing to build an arena alone rather than having to make it into a multi-billion dollar ego project.

Since when do you speak for the fan base? There's been no poll on whether fans are excited or not. I don't trust the Jazz owner to do hockey justice so the jury is out on this one for me.

From Utah and feel for the coyotes fans, but couldn't be more excited. SLC will be a great place for the NHL. Jazz have been a huge success. NHL will do the same.

Not all Utah hockey fans are excited, we were burned by Larry Miller so why should we trust Smith to not do a bait and switch to us again? Our local media does a lousy job of promoting hockey so unless you get enough fans in the seats this will only be a temporary relocation.

@jg6693 I believe, if Arizona moves to Salt Lake. That team/Roster will remain in Salt Lake. Then, once Arizona secures land and has a professional arena built that will open Arizona up to be first in line for a new expansion team.

Honestly, the only good move Muerelo has made is the hiring of Bill Armstrong. It’s gonna make me sick if this plays out and then the same guy who drove my team out of town gets awarded an expansion team. All the while seeing a cool $600 million return on investment. Disgusting. I hope the roadrunners stay regardless of what happens.

At about the 11:00 mark, Chris says that there are people at the NHL level comparing the Arizona hockey market to Minnesota. Anyone who thinks that is completely delusion and needs to be involuntarily institutionalized. And Chris is 100% correct about the stadium. Until and unless someone or some group of people build a functional NHL stadium in a viable location the Arizona market will not work. Also the NHL needs to realize there no difference between a great market with no viable stadium and a bad market with no viable stadium. If you have no viable long term stadium solution, then you have no viable long term market. It's really no different than a human being try to live in a city. No matter how great that cities economy, and how much the person plans on thriving, if the person does not have a stable viable long term housing solution they will not be successful.

I have no hate for the Coyotes team. I do have a problem with how long this team has been an absolute bust for the NHL. If this situation were to have happen in Canada, it would have been over years ago. I know the next two markets are Houston, and Salt Lake city. But, I mean there is Quebec City, and anywhere close to the G.T.A. . This pet project of Gary's has to come to an end. How the other team owners allow this to continue is beyond me.

I really hate that the NHL is choosing to pull the plug on the team while they currently have a plan in place to fx the situation and are in a legally-mandated waiting period. There was so much time between the failed Tempe vote and the announcement of the auction for the league to do this, but no, they wait until *now*, when the Yotes can't do anything about it? I will have no arguments left if the auction fails, and I would've had no arguments left after the failed vote, but now they're not giving this plan an opportunity to fail OR succeed. I hate the idea of these players and prospects and everything being moved when some of them like Josh Doan have such close ties to Arizona through and through, but I can get over it, I think. It's the timing of this decision to pull the plug *now* while they have a plan in place that really frustrates me. If you were going to move them, you should've done it before the auction plan was formalized.

@@brandon4622 The Kraken is not a made up name, it was a sea beast which could exist in the water off Seattle, hence the choice. But there are no Yeti in North America. And the Avs have used it somewhat in previous years with a patch on their uniforms

Ok. FULL STOP!!!. I went to culinary school in the Phoenix/Scottsdale/ Tempe/ Glendale/Avondale/ Chandler/ Goodyear/ P.V./ El Mirage etc..... That entire area and city is almost the most spread out and wide city ive ever been to, or lived in. So you had to drive for a bit to go to the arena? So what!!! You have to drive a bit to get ANYWHERE! in the Sun Valley. I also lived in the SanFran Bay Area of California. They have the Sharks. In San Jose. Which the Bay Area is way, way more spread out than the Phoenix Metro Area. but no-one ever bitches about that they had to commute to Sharks game. The Bay Area was and is proud to make a jaunt to San Jose, because they all feel like a connected people, no matter what the distance. The whole "Arena In The West Valley" being so difficult to get to, is the biggest pile of trash I've ever heard. The Phoenix Freeway (the 101 and I 10) is a giant circle. Its not that hard to navigate. You could see the Cardinals Stadium from the freeway. (Which the old Glendale Hockey Arena was near...like same parking lot) This is spoiled ass rich white folk not wanting to go to the West Valley because they're scared of the boogie man and want everything handed to them. They were fine in a nice arena. The attitude toward the West Valley people was one of the issues with attendance. "Oh my God!""I have to drive 20 minutes to go to the game....and in the West VALLEY!!!"....."clutches pearls". The Cardinals Stadium is in the same complex. Nobody bats an eye.

" Devolving " doesn't seem like the right word to me. " Waste of time " does describe most of the first half of this podcast. Chris has explained it all adequately before, including the Quebec situation.
