Created in 1997 with my first Digital Video (DV) camera, a Sony VX1000. After decades of use, my trusty 16mm film cameras and editing gear were pushed aside in favor of the lightweight and compact DV format. Thus began a new era of documentary recording and computer based editing. I turned my lens on what interested me: Ruckle Farm Day, the Fall Fair, Pioneer Days as well as the stories First Nations by old-timers like, Bob Akerman. From several hours of raw footage, I cut together this 10 minute video. REFLECTIONS includes Lotus Ruckle, Val Gyves, Cyril Beach, Mike Byron and Robert Bateman, among other local legends. No slick flick, but golden memories made and captured on Salt Spring Island.
