It feels like the biggest issues that this ship suffers from are from legacy designing; it's as if they just picked up the original in-progress work for the interior with the living quarters and engineering/component locations and just dropped them in without any regard for touching them up to modern standards for the game. As a result, the ship looks really good on the outside and on the newer interior areas, but the quality just deviates so much for no reason...the exit label for the door took the cake on this bit.

I think very large components Chris mentioned you need to take the ship in to a maintenance facility and they will swap them over for you because it would require extra work like cutting things open, which is a bit silly. So it probably just means you dock your ship somewhere and have to wait for NPCs to perform magic. Especially with size 4 components and above.

Capital power plants, like on the Reclaimer... are fully integrated. Can't be removed without hull resection. Stand to reason other S4 components would be similar. Surely there are access hatches with cut points like on modern ocean vessels.

@kinoshasecurity5515 The front shield generator and main computer components are in the front of the ship, so that is the middle or rear of the ship is damaged, the bridge will still function. It doesn't make sense to put those components in the back. Remember, localized damage is on the way, and all the components, and relays will be simulated, so local damage disables systems in that area of the ship. you don't want your FRONT shields to go down when the BACK of you ship is damaged.

One thing I noticed on this ship is that it seems like they built multiple relay ports into different areas (next to the ladder at 24:14 or next to the door at 25:19 for example), where you would place and replace relay modules for engineering like we saw on ISC/SCL a few months back. Very cool hint at possible progress on that gameplay loop.

The Hull D carries 20,736 SCU. That is an astronomical amount of cargo that could swamp a market in a system. The Hull E is 98,304 SCU. An org would have to do hundreds of salvage and mining missions to get close to filling it up. There is normally only one in even mega corp fleets. They could and will affect the markets of planets, even systems. Maybe not ones like Sol or Terra, but most systems.

the largest modern cargo ships can carry up to 24,000 TEU (those big red metal crates) each of which holds 33 meters cubed. thats about 792,000 meters cubed of volume. each SCU is stated to be bout 1.95 meters cubed, meaning the hull e (with its 98,000 capacity) can carry 191,000 meters cubed. a fraction of what modern cargo ships can carry. so yeah i dont think a single Hull-E will have any major impact on an entire city let alone planet (arcorp supposedly has a population of 2 trilllion...)

I've suggested in "Game Ideas", they study how shipping centers/harbors move cargo containers from ship to trailer, train or another ship and how a RAFT (with 6 containers), Mass tractor beams, etc... may get utilized? ;-) There's one profession that should be introduced when cargo handling gets really involved, and that is "Cargo Master", who's responsibility is to make sure that cargo for specific locations is loaded or unloaded in a way that is efficient and doesn't disturb the balance of the vessel thus preventing overheating, overloading thrusters?

it had one 2X2 S3 turret at the front like it dose now and three 2x2 S2 remote turrets. i like that they made the front one pilot controlled but it only has one turret control for the other two like the star lifter which really lowers the ships expected defensive fire power, which really sucks because with all the line of sight blocking when you have the cargo loaded its going to be almost useless, they should slave the turrets to one firing control.

@14:00 You make a great point here. Here on planet earth we transport something like 11 billion tonnes by ship each year with an additional 60 million tonnes or so shipped by air freight. I'm not sure if CIG have ever said anything about defining what an SCU actually is, but in game they look very similar in size to one of those pallet sized IBC liquid containers that hold 1 tonne of water. 4600 SCU sounds like a lot, but when you consider that the average container ship here on Earth could carry around 450,000 IBCs, it really isn't. Obviously all this theorising depends on how many people live in the various star systems in SC, but it's not unreasonable to suggest that even hundreds of players flying between planets in their Hull Cs shouldn't be making much of an impact on the economy unless they are hauling extremely rare and valuable commodities.

This reminds me of the guy who did some math on how ArcCorp was built. I don't remember all the details, but the takeaway was it is physically impossible to build ArcCorp in the time from founding to current day in universe. The reason its physically impossible is because the amount of waste heat from building, manufacturing, ships flying in and out, etc. would actually boil away the atmosphere.

Be careful @@jackinthebox301! You're dragging me down a rabbit hole here! 😅 Just thinking about ArcCorp alone: A planet entirely covered by city buildings. No natural resources, no mines, no forests, no fresh water!! Here on planet Earth we use an average of about 500 tonnes of water per person per year. I'm not even going to start trying to do the maths for an unknown planetary population where the entire planet is dense city. Needless to say, I think we can discount any possible effects of an overabundance of Hull Cs on the economy.

Even with the time they spent designing it to be "realistic", it still clips through itself and the mechanics of the arms don't actually work. You couldn't build it irl like they have it. it didn't need to be a tube; it could have been an extending floor panels with Rails, both to the side and above as an extending frame that provides the ability to see all the cargo outside and go through two airlocks... which would add to the thematics and game play, I think this would have been cooler. Also don't like there isn't an elevator to the habitat. I totally agree with his comment regarding the galley and Bed areas.. table and bench could have also been embedded into the floor and comes up when required... what would have been cool is a flip table which becomes a ping pong table when the benches are in the floor.. If you you shoot the docking collar door open, you will notice that the gravity gen door is in view from a 45 degree angle and as soon as you shoot that in the future, all the cargo will just fall off plus if you emp it will fall off. Now for something the hull C owners will like. You can use the cargo grids as a space net, Thats what this ship is actually for if ya think about it. Ships drag nets to CATCH there GOODS. The Hull-E carries as much as over 146 C2s. That would *definitely* be enough to upset a system, if they're just using it to trade around one system...but part of the idea of Quanta is also that there just shouldn't be enough resources for someone to even utilize that much carrying capacity. Then again, this is all theoretical since we don't live in 2083 and we have no idea how things will work at launch.

Also - the reason that tube is just a tube is actually one the *the only* things they did right in this design. While the spindle itself is ridiculous and never a design anyone would actually clear for production - The fact that they didn't include windows in the spindle is, if you're going to use one, good. That spindle is a load-point for the cargo. The windows represent weak points in that spindle design that, due to material differences, flex/bend and or have differing stress-load capacities than the steel around them. From an engineering point - you'd want that all to be consistent so that the load coming on to those racks from manuevering would encounter similar material responses across the spindle to maintain integrity. Also with that being a pressurized tube for traversal, you definitely want it with no weak points. Now if only they understood that same concept for the overall design of the ship's form - we'd be going somewhere.

the game tries to achieve some king of logical realism in a fictional world, so they try to get a limited realism and functional sense, some kind of compromise between what would it look like in a real world and videogame. Now image how technically would you achieve having windows in that tube, when the whole corridor expands. Can windows expand? The system they used is the same that is used in the long trolleybuses. Which makes me think that Morpho is a design architect and doesn't think much or not at all about technical performance, reliability and other stuff. I find it a bit frustrating that people are looking for a "wow" effect in places where there can't be one. It is "wow" it the way the ship expands, but you can't place windows where you can't have them.

By extension - an architect is not a shipwright, and one of my constant peeves in SC is how - IF they did actually get consultation from an architect - it was not a shipwright or ship engineer. The Hull C is a prime example. Designing something that could land, but which is never intended too, is a bad starting point for a design. Further, you would never, in any ship design, have cargo attached to such a structurally weak and easily compromised structure such as those winged hard racks. A more appropriate design would be the Star Wars' cargo container from the escape from Hoth. That has its own problems, but cargo-to-ship's-size ratio si more correct. The Hull C has a miniscule amount of cargo space for such a lot of points of failure of engineering. If just one of those folding parts of the central spindle fail, you're out of a hauling job. From an industry stand point, if this was a real universe, you'd never get that past the design floor. There are too many fallible points of that design. Any look at modern cargo ships will give you better design ideas that are more immersive and interesting, and grounded in references that we recognize, can logic through, and build immersion from. From someone who's worked on cargo ships, tallships, and in/out of Ports, shipping terminals and other such spots for my career - The biggest chuckle was when he talked about how much they 'actually engineered' the mechanisms to deploy. They spent years on a mechanic that, if you're using the ship correctly, you'll never use. You deploy it once. They could have put the ship out much sooner, with much more of a believable form, without that. The folding structure is just a ridiculous premise for any long-haul industrial build that needs to be reliable. What they really need to do is consult anyone who's ever worked on a real cargo ship, in their cargo-ambitious designs. Not a single Star Citizen ship makes logical sense for the universe they're building. :/

Personally, I love the chrome surface of MISC ships. For the Freelancers, there is also a black paint available in game (sold at A18) which looks awesome imo. Edit: Didn't the original concept have a stairway, comparable to the 400i? The elevator might be more practical in terms of gameplay, since the Hull-C will operate in zero g most of the time, but I really liked that part. Edit 2: The Cutter has these very small windows in the cargo hold, something like that in the spindle would have been amazing. But I think it's purely a performance issue, my guess is that they don't want the windows in these places because then they would have to render a lot more at the same time.

38:30 Exactly. CIG is notorious for sticking things in and then just shrugging their shoulders saying.. "It's a multi crew ship". Well.. ok.. but until you actually allow the Co-pilot to actually DO SOMETHING I sit here unconvinced of your sincerity. The Captain's chair is the same. What I want to see in that damn captain's chair is a friggin TRADING CONSOLE! I mean FFS... who owns the ship? Does the Captain own it? Does the Helmsmen own it? Did CIG not spend even a MOMENT thinking about that? The answer to that question is, of course, no. No they did not. If they had then they wouldn't have released the ship in such a way that if the pilot isn't flying the ship... the owner/co-pilot has to keep standing up to do EVERYTHING. Want the doors to the hangar open? Owner has to sit at the helm to do that. Buy.. sell.. can't do it with anyone on the ship. Need to quantum jump? Well the owner needs to stand up because if they are sitting even the quantum markers go away. So I want to see CIG take a MUCH more broad approach to multi-crew ships and get their f-ing fingers off the scale. It seems that every time someone does something that CIG didn't intend... like the owner of a ship calling and opening the hangar doors from the ASOP terminal.. they quash it. Even if it makes sense. They really do need to knock that $#!+ off. Anyway.. great video. Very funny to see your opinion altered with the "I can't unsee this". I need to do some videos of these ships from an industrial/process engineering and design standpoint. Cause there are sooooo many things that just drive me nutz. Anyway.. great video. Thanks for covering this. I actually pulled out popcorn at the start of it. Edit: 41:35 I think it might have been the reverse. You have an entire team working on a major design element, not only for a near capital size ship but for an entire design language... and then you suddenly tell them... "Hey guys.. we are going to put a pin in this thing so you can all work on Squadron 42". So I think it may have been the case that those folk just decided to go do something else.

This was hilarious. I reacted the same way to it all. And I can’t even go in the living quarters anymore lol. And I wouldn’t even mind but the actual cargo transfer mechanics are so unreliable - Im sticking to my C2 until they fix it. But isn’t that typical of CIG though? Their major cargo patch with their biggest ever hauler, and it doesn’t even work half the time lol. There’s only 4 locations you can trade at and they barely have any stock of the few commodities you can trade in between those locations. Why doesn’t the market support the ship? Why was it released in this state? Oh and they put the price up to $500 lol. It just makes no sense.

I think some of the guys that put this ship together used to work for Drake. Plus, wtf CiG? Why do you continue to put toilets near kitchens? Just what I need - trying to eat my veggie MRE and having to to smell the fricking engineer getting rid of his veggie MRE…

That ship design just seems to be dumb to me and so wrong for space bulk cargo hauling. If you want a giant bulk hauler why isn't it just a box at the front where the crew lives and is piloted from, a frame running down the middle where the cargo is attached and a tube running down connecting it to a big giant engine arry? I keep looking at the ship (14:15 timestamp) and there is just so much wasted space. Why don't the cargo pads rotate flat and extend out along the sides of the ship? that would increase the cargo capacity and keep the ship profile slimmer, you could even add another 4 pads making it more of a hexagon form. There is also all the stresses that the middle section would take, and the amount of reinforcement that would need, this whole ship does not make sense to me.

I love and hate this ship. It's new and different and cool but it's also old and not laid out well and they spent all these man hours getting this in game yet they modeled it several years ago and put zero effort into fixing the problems of yesteryear while they were working on it. This ship has the interior parts that is hated on the starfarer, door after door after door with silver panel after silver panel it's just... Not good and then that last little bit that would have been a cool factor they took out, the overlook section on the outside of engineering where you walk out the door onto a platform... That's gone 😢.

Cargo is ONLY possible IN SPACE ...Massive engines to push all the weight ...Space HAS no weight ...
@Star-Gazor

That's exactly what I was thinking when he said that lol "massive engines to push all that weight" followed by saying that the ship is not meant to take its cargo into atmosphere.... I was like, "holup, smth ain't adding up... When did we get drag, etc. in space....?". If anything, with how big those engines are, this ship should be the single fastest ship in space loll not sure how I feel about it ngl...
