Hello Wasteland!
In today's double feature, I go over my experiences at Salute 2023 and 2024!
Salute is the UK's biggest wargames miniatures convention, with hundreds of stores, manufacturers and game developers who present new products, rules and miniatures to thousands of wargames enthusiasts at the London Excel Centre.
I think one of the videos that needs to come from this now, is a speed-painting video in 20 minutes. It's a little bit of the hobby that's vastly over looked, entry-level painting competitions (especially on a timer!).

Awesome. I can't speed paint to save my soul. I'd spend 20 minutes trying to decide on what color to use. Analysis paralysis is a demon of mine. I've only been to a couple gaming cons, with the largest being Gen Con in Indianapolis. and it was such a treat. Course I spent way too much money but... worth it, and I got into Dropzone because of it. Love the cat minis too. One of my Gaslands teams is a Mishkin team with housecats as the drivers/crew.

Honestly speed paint competitions are great for breaking through AP. Because you don't have time to agonize over every detail, you go back through that stored memory of painted models and colour combinations that work, which means you can focus on which bit to start with. Knowing what to paint first, and how long different paints take to dry, is vital 😉 honestly, it's a video that needs to be made.

@@jhminiatures7867 That'd be cool to see. I largely use folk art and apple barrel like craft paints and the wide range in quality means it takes a bit of patience to get good results. So I tend to take awhile. Only reason I can churn out a lot of minis in a relatively short time is I batch paint, going over shared colors across every model until it's time to individualize them.

What's interesting too from a competition like this, is there's very little choice past the colours of paint you use. The models, brushes, brand of paint, it's all supplied there and then on the day. There's no room to agonize, you just have to grab the things you know you'll need (black/white/a silver paint/brown/a wash of some kind) and go from there.
