In this video I remove the engine and automatic transmission from the 2000 Honda Civic I picked up from Pull-A-Part a couple of weeks back. I’m hoping the transmission is still good. After removing the engine and transmission, I spent some time cleaning the ‘new’ transmission with some degreaser and a pressure washer. Check out the video to see the results.
I hope you find this information useful!

@@ericthecarguy I remember the first ETCG video I ever watched - in preparation for a clutch job on a Ford. I had to knock the second driveshaft out by hitting on it over the top of the spider gears in the transmission. Great video! I recently bought a house w a garage, and finally bought my first 500$ 98 civic, super beat up - but with intention of fixing it up. Engine and trans are still strong at 134k. But the suspension was garbage, seized bolts etc and horrible rust (midwest car). The car was so easy and satisfying to work on, but the seized parts is what was the real challenge, I never would;ve guessed that. Now I know its a thing among midwest cars! lol And you're right, these cars are super reliable... like the reliable Dot-Matrix printers they stopped making in the 80's. Those things took a beating and still ran forever!!! But then they stopped making them bc they were toooo good!

My son's vw Jetta 2013 2L went into garage last month and had the engine changed. Every thing went well, but after that every time he refill the gas tank, he had to crank for one minute to start the car. Then the car went back to normal again. Last week, he couldn't start the car in the parking of Macdonald, and the car was towed back to the garage. They checked and told us the battery is 7 years old and fuel pump needs to be replaced. I let them changed fuel filter only and bought a new battery and changed it myself, but now the car is running weak. I guess we need to change the fuel pump now. We spent 3000 Canadian dollars to change the engine and accessaries and now we have to spend another 500$ the change fuel pump. Can't understand so many parts broke at the same time.

I have a 08 CRv and use OEM 99% of the time. Also the CRV can be tricky because they built them in so many different countries, you have to make sure its the correct part. I have a Japanese built one, but we've had parts for US or Mexico built ones that are similar, but not the right part. I don't trust Napa or O'Reilly's to give me parts.

Ohh ok hood to know the question is how to know where the engine was build through the vin number

@@diycolombianitoloco9375 Since my car is all stock, its easy to go through vin on the car. If you swapped it, you could check the tag on the engine block.

Hey, Eric. I trust you as an authority on hondas and acuras. I am buying a 2003 honda accord v6 auto sedan. What are your opinions on these cars?

In general, 99% of Hondas are quite reliable. TO know whether that particular 2003 is good or a lemon, you should get it independently inspected by a mechanic. Many shops offer thorough and high quality inspection services.
