I hear ya Sam. I grew up outside of Pittsburgh, Pa in 1970s. The teachers in my Biology class had to tip toe around evolution. They could mention the theory, but could not go into detail about what evolution was and how it worked. They could not tells us students about all the evidence for evolution. It was taught in a cursory manner. .. This was Pittsburgh too, not Alabama.
