Sadly in this case, our Sam is using the head between his legs instead of the head between his ears, as many men are prone to do, to pick a mate. As long as the wrong head is calling the shots in selecting compatible dates and mates, poor Sam will continue to experience never ending disappointment in the shallow relationships he has been getting with the shallow plastic actresses. I feel like sitting Sam down and doing a Mommy intervention with him to steer him into looking into a more appropriate direction for romance that is more compatible for him and that will end in the lifetime of happiness he so richly deserves. I could imagine him taking up with a Scottish or Celtic woman similar to Lucy, whom he encountered late on in his autobiography “Waypoints,” someone into hiking and physical fitness like he is, into Scottish history, someone honest and supportive who appreciates his delightful sense of humor, and someone who can help him in his many philanthropic efforts and his Sassenach business. He has to get over his tendency to want astoundingly beautiful and brainless models with zero personal compatibility with him.

I think Sam has a fear of committing and feels the grass is greener on the other side. So what better way then an a modal or actress. He seems to be the one that walks and we don’t know how many women this man dated. But it’s his life and his head problems

Not surprising that Sam has a fear of commitment. His upbringing, in which his father was absent after abandoning his mother (when he was only 18 months old), was a struggle at first. His Mom Chrissie stepped up and did her best to be both Mom and Dad to her two sons and sacrificed her artistic aspirations for many years to work whatever jobs she could get to feed, clothe, and house her family on her own. Sam and his family lived in inexpensive and modest estate housing in rural Southwest Scotland until they could afford better after their Mom’s years of hard work. Despite this, according to his “Waypoints” autobiography they felt the deep loss of growing up without his father’s emotional and monetary support. This had to have left some emotional scars for Sam, especially for his Mom and his older brother Cirdan, who was old enough to remember and bond with their dad before he took off. Maybe because of his experiences of living in a fatherless family that was different from many other two-parent families, Sam might have grown up feeling like an outcast or fears repeating in his own relationships what his Dad did to him and to his family and does not want to do so to any girlfriend or wife of his. He had no at-home paternal role model to show him how a man goes about having a loving life-long commitment and relationship to a partner or a wife. In the book, Sam discussed finally meeting his Dad along with Cirdan in Canada in 2014 just before his death. He was surprised at the long repressed intense feelings that welled up in him after this meeting. I suspect Sam is still coming to terms with finally meeting his Dad after all those years passed with only one awkward birthday phone call in all that time. He was not there to guide his son as only a father can do in many cases on the joys and perils of dating, relationships, and marriage from a man’s point of view. I suspect that until Sam comes to terms with all of this emotional baggage that messed up his early life in some ways and takes better control of figuring out for himself what sort of companion he wants to have for a long-term relationship, he will continue to choose inappropriate shallow plastic Barbie Doll models and actresses who use him as a career stepping stone to enhance their social status and who treat him like crap. Sam deserves so much better. Good counseling and therapy can do wonders to help one work through relationship and commitment issues like Sam has. He is basically a nice guy dealing with painful early life experiences that have rendered him shy and lacking in self-confidence. I suspect that Sam is somehow equating or perceiving these perfect-looking (but mean or shallow) actresses and models as what he needs to increase his public alpha male status and the general positive perception of others. He fails to understand yet what a devastatingly handsome and personally wonderful and special person he is all by himself and that he does not require these superficial women (who care more for themselves than for him) like he has been dating to validate him. I suspect his self-reported eating disorder discussed in “Waypoints” was also a reflection of his low feelings of self-worth. It makes me so sad to see him struggling through these issues when he is someone so very special and such a total light to the world with his deep personal kindness to others and all of his good works to help others. I hope those closest to him can help convince him that he is someone worthwhile who deserves every personal happiness in his life. A lot of his adoring fans like us want that for him too and have his back. ❤❤❤❤❤

Yes I know his father abandoned them but he’s not the first. That’s just an excuse for bad behavior. My granddaughter had a similar experience and both her and her mother put themselves thru college and have relationships. Sam has to except what happened as not his fault or a result of his behavior. I think women come easy for him and allows him to not commit. Or second choice is women aren’t his thing and he’s afraid to admit it. Afraid women won’t support him any longer he stays hidden. He does have a large fan base the exist of women. But in my option, who cares his choice It’s his acting ability I’m interested in. Any way I hope good luck to him whoever his choice

Incorrect characterization Erik. Not gossip off of social media at all. Not a jealous rival either. Even though I am an admirer of his superior acting talent in many productions and supportive of his creative success, I am also old enough to be Sam’s mother and not of a dating age cohort for him and certainly not remotely in the running for such a relationship with him at all. I have been concerned about what I heard from those around him as I would be for any unscrupulous predator and gold digger victimizing my own grown children that way. I know someone close to the family through work connections who expressed extreme concerns to me over time that this woman was using Sam as a cash cow and a career stepping stone and in addition attempting to manipulate him into an unwanted marriage and trying to extort him for child support without supporting evidence, which she refused to give. She has a lengthy and well-documented history of doing this to other men in her life besides Sam. The Heughans and their friends were very relieved when she and Sam parted ways in 2018. They were concerned during their years together about her putting pressure on him to enter a long-term relationship with her when he still felt financially insecure after years of struggle to get established in his career and not having a permanent place to live until very recently. Since he was also still dealing with emotional issues surrounding his father’s abandonment of his family when he was a toddler and surrounding making long-term romantic commitments at the moment when he has been too busy to invest proper time in same, forcing this kind of commitment upon him when he wasn’t emotionally ready to do so would have been toxic for him. I am told by those who know Sam best that the situation made him feel pressured and uncomfortable. He needs someone in his life without personal pressure agendas who will selflessly care for him for his sweet self and not for what he can do for them and let him advance any such relationship at his pace and at his level of comfort.
