Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw MC, also known as Sam Bahadur, was the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, and the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of field marshal.

I was fotunate to have a glimpse of the late Fm Manekshaw in Bombay after his retirement. He had a unique glow on his face that is reflected on a high soul. Apart from his military genius he had the highest character. When lying in the hospital during his last days, when late president A P J Abdul Kalam met him he complained to him that he had not been given his pension as a Field Marshal. The late president on return to to Delhi checked with defence ministry and despatched cheque of Rs. 1.25 crores. The late FM gave it away in the army welfare fund! A great soul, a true patriot and a solier's general. May his soul rest in eternal peace and the country may always be blessed with generals like late Field Marshal Manekshaw.

Yes he has a heart of a lion... If he would be a Doctor he would be a great doctor...... You know when Indira Gandhi in April 1971 ordered him to open the eastern front he directly refused to obey her order..... In India a COAF is also like a very senior and important buerocrate who has a direct connection with the PM such as Cabinet secretary or Principal secretary, Director of the Intelligence Bureau but he had the guts to refuse the order of the PM ...... But Field Marshal Manikshaw refused to obey the order of the PM in the cabinet meeting and he also wanted to resign from his post and the Field Marshal title when the OM asked him the reason he said as a professional soldiers I know this is the monsoon season in eastern Pakistan so that we can't finish the job within a month, our Tanks and Mechanised IFVs can not advance through the muds and the flood waters ....... So we can provide logistics and SF operations in eastern front but we can fortify our western front because the Generals who keep themselves busy in politics assumed we are going to open the eastern front so we have moved almost all of our men to the eastern sector and the western Frontier India won't keep much troops so the western Frontier will be volunarable for Pakistani Army that's why they will try to attack the western front so that they can show the people the power of Pakistani Army ........

Kaul was appointed to command the Army in 1962 Indo -China war and when China entered NEFA he ordered his officers to destroy all' the Documents of his HQ in Guwahati and appointed his adjutant and his 2nd in command in his place to fight the Chinese and left for Dehli on medical grounds later he was called to explain his action in the Parliament and he was dismissed by the COAS General Thimaya and Nehru forced Krishna Menon to resign..............

I as a part of the Republic Day Contingent 1971 and a member of the Sainik School Band, Goalpara Assam had the opportunity see the great soldier from just about a meter or so. He had come to the camp to visit and talk to us. we were in awe, completely mesmerized by his personality, his humbleness. A true charismatic leader. It is definitely shameful on the part of the then PM Manmohan Singh and the then President Pratibha Patil not to honor and pay respect to the great soldier. Perhaps they needed approval from the Madam Sonia. Shameful and disgusting.

What stood out to me from the video is that legends exceptional sense of Humor & Knowledge of Geography/Terrain/Landscape & Weather, which is is what makes a person an asset to reckon with for any Defence Force in the world. I can easily relate this exceptional knowledge of landascape that is lacking as society is progressing in modern era to many other things happenning now, but will leave it for now.

my grandpa also was a MC holder which he got for his bravery in italy :) his name was HON. CAPT. RAJPAL SINGH CHAUHAN ! we have still got his medal till date which we are very proud of ! my grandpa was from 1st horse (armed corps now ) in second world war ! as for the movie --- well it has done justice to sam bahadur sir ! and the acting of the hero (forgot his name ) is also awesome , he plays it well ! chhoti chhoti details bhi us movie me dekhi gayi hai army se related , so being from an army background ---( my great grand dd died in WWI , my grand dad retired as an honorary capt , with military cross, my dad retired as a colonel , and my elder brother also retired as a colonel (special ops ) i can freely say that sambahadur movie is too good one must watch it !

Great indian general and 1st field marshal of India. India was Fortunate That sam Bahadur opted for indian amy .his loyalty to nation was Unblemish. He had great military mind and was recognised By Indira gandhi pm after nehru. Manekahaw was great asset Of India was passed away in June 2008 .last word he said I am ok .salute to such great son of india
