Steven Kassulke so if I had gay friends I would be gay? Most my friends are gay and I am straight.... hmmm... I wonder if being religious and not having the ability to distinguish fantasy from reality has something to do with your concern that people’s ideas can change your sexual preference and identity.

So weird to me. We see nearly anything in this country being sold using sex appeal, still nearly always within a heterosexual framework. But some public affection (hell, even *no* public affection) between two people of the same sex is "rubbing it in our faces and forcing it on us, and we're not gonna take it anymore!" It's ridiculous... It's precisely why there are Gay *Pride* Parades that those same people also whine about.

I love it when he says that single mothers should not get some tax benefits on account that children are more successful if they are raised by both parents. So, in order to punish these wayward sinful women he has no compunction on cutting the income of already disadvantaged children. Christians as a whole have never struck me as caring about others. They have their book, which they routinely use to beat people with (metaphorically) who don’t fit their little box (especially women). So, here is this christian man, who basically says that single parents are losers, showing the true colours of what christianity is. Follow MY rules, in a book written exclusively by men, for men, hundreds if not thousands years AFTER the events they believe so willingly, who believe that a woman had to be a virgin to be considered worthy enough to have the child of god. Here is this man going on and on about marriage and having children who literally believes that the “mother” of their saviour was untouched by sex. He also has no room in his heart if he believes that women should be punished for whatever “sin” has left them single parents. I wonder how he feels if a parent suddenly finds themselves single parents due to the tragedy of their partner dying. Is there a just punishment in his book for those families? And are those children going to, somehow, become less of a person? And people wonder why I despise religion

@@Badartist888 as someone who became a widow in my early 30s with two young children, it always astounds me how so many christians like Ruse are willing to throw me and my kids under the bus just to punish women who dare have consensual sex without their permission, get pregnant and birth those children rather than have an abortion. Yet at the same time they want to ban abortions AND contraception so that women who are raped or have consensual sex without their permission are forced to remain pregnant, give birth to those children and raise them in single parent homes where they MUST be forced to live lives of poverty and disadvantage so that the kids fail at life. Their moral stance sounds contradictory but it makes perfect sense when you realise it has nothing to do with concern for or protecting children and that kids are merely a tool used to punish women.

Religious bigotry at its finest. The logical fallacy of the caller is just painful to listen to. It's funny how it took him the entire segment to come out and say that he just believed that gay marriage is morally wrong. So in essence, everything else he was saying was just a way to justify his own belief without actually admitting to a deep rooted idea of it being just wrong on a religious basis, which by definition would be illogical on an objective point of view.

I want to end my comments with my observation, while listening to Austin Ruse, regarding his style of expressing himself. He sounds remarkably like Marcus Bachmann, if you catch my drift. My thoughts are echoed by the comment immediately before mine, by Jonathan Seale. In a nutshell, Mr. Ruse sounds as gay as a spring frock, or three cans of pink paint. Please give us an update when you hear that he's been caught on his knees in an airport men's room with a hustler named Lance. (As I'm typing, Ruse is making his proclamations regarding alleged "morality". Can I assume that Ruse is aware that in heterosexual unions, practices such as fellatio, cunnilingus, and anal sex occur on a daily basis? And is he aware that these practices are now legal, and do not lead to procreation? )

The only reason children get 'confused' about LGBT issues is because people like this caller insist on telling them anything negative about people like the couple on this show they discussed, based upon falsehoods I might add. And while I am glad Sam is taking the stand he is taking, this is just another example of why I don't do talk radio or cable news...anyone with an uninformed idea can get on the air and can attempt to talk over others while making no sense at all. I was about to say that I feel sorry for his daughter but given the release date of this clip, she must now be 17 or 18; guess she's heard of gay people by now. And then he refused to delve into the fact that religion is a choice also, and by the same logic it should receive no additional rights because it is not innate. His argument was "well, it is in the Bill of Rights." In other words, because people in the 18th century though it best to happen to single out religion as getting special privileges, the law shouldn't today, in the 21st century, be re-codified to include things that apply more openly to our civil rights. His only argument is "it's tradition." Meanwhile, "traditional marriage" between 1 man and 1 woman has only been the accepted tradition for a few hundred years.

The government supports marriage not for procreation but because it fosters the creation of stable households that contribute to a stable society as well as the fact that stable households provide resources for the care of children, indigents, the elderly and the infirm thereby lessening the state's burden (i.e., the burden of the taxpayers) for caring for those people. As society increasingly accepts that gay marriages contribute to societal stability at least as much as heterosexual marriages, preventing gay civil marriages is not in the interest of the state itself.

When my mom told me that same sex people can sometimes fall in love and get married I was about eight years old and I thought that was awesome because I could have my best friend (who is still my best friend now 25 years later) as a life partner. Later when I came to understand my sexuality and that I had none of those feelings toward him I was able to understand my true feelings on the issue as it pertained to me. My point is that we shouldn't prevent ourselves from trusting children with information. They might misinterpret it, but it will inform their perceptions of reality as they mature mentally and gain access to more and more information. It also stimulates their curiosity which is extremely important for their intellectual development. I'm not sure that I would even hide the reality of school shootings from my children. I would make them understand how unlikely they are to be involved in such a thing, but I wouldn't hide that from them. Their knowledge of such things could even give them perception on the warning signs to look for in their peers so that they could play a role in preventing such a thing from happening. That would be obviously much more of a positive outcome than hiding the truth from them.
