There's only one way to get purified and that's by accepting the sacrifice of Christ as dying for your sins . Praying to Mary just means asking for her intercession in the Catholic and orthodox context. It’s no different than asking your mother to pray for you. Mary and the prophets and the saints are part of the divine council which is fully biblical. You don’t need somebody to be omniscient to ask for their prayers. There’s praying to God and asking God to do things for you that only God can do, and then there is “praying” to Mary, the saints and your guardian angel etc to intercede for you. Why not ask them? They are closer to God than we could ever possibly be in this physical life and more alive than we are. We benefit from their prayers just as we would benefit from prayers for us on earth.

Those prayers, however, are brought to the LORD as petitions with believers submitting themselves to the will of the Father, whether HIS answer is yes or no. I’m just explaining that biblically and theologically, Catholics do have grounds for believing that saints can intercede on their behalf to God… I guess what I’m trying to say is “I don’t believe in it either but I atleast understand why Catholics do that “
