My best friend took his own life a few weeks ago, Follow Suit is hitting hard right now but acting as a companion. I'd listened to How To Save A Life so many times since he's died, just part of questioning myself I guess, which is only natural. This cover is very timely. I've listened to Sam since the busking days in Brighton. Sam’s music genuinely saved my life. A couple of years I went through a stage of serious depression, I wasn’t happy, healthy & reached a point where I didn’t want to live anymore. I had no hope or interest in anything. Sam’s music resonated with how I was feeling at the time & it just gave me some comfort to cling onto, hope & happiness. It may sound strange, but his songs were my friends. His voice is exceptional, the range, emotion & storytelling is captivating. However, his writing comes from his heart & you can tell that - I listened to each & every word of his songs, they at times described exactly how I felt. I went to Sam’s live gig in Leeds - I’ve been to many gigs before, but this one hit different. I replayed so much that night, good and bad, however listening to the songs that not only saved my life, but will always remain a part of my life, was special. I have listened to hundreds of different artists, thousands of different songs, nobodies music has connected to me like Sam's. Some music makes me want to sing along, dance, cry - Sam's I just sit in awe, let my mind take over and listen.

My brother always listened to this an would sing along to this song when we were teenagers. He was in a car crash on his way to work (passenger) the day after his 17th birthday. He was always my best friend. He got brain damage in the crash but luckily he’s still here but I lost a big part of him that day. I have heard this song many times, but this is the first time I "HEARD " this song. I had many conversations with my brother about suicide. It was doubly difficult because he was way smarter than I am . He had an answer for every argument. In the end he didn't do it . He lived another 25 years. He found love , and joyous moments. Sadly I lost him to a disease in 2020 . He was 59 years old . I miss him desperately.
