Made me so sad to see his hesitancy, then her glowing smile turn into an apology 🥺 Like of course he is entitled to his own feelings, but it shouldn't be *that* shocking that she envisions her life with him. i loved that you guys talked about the expectation that women have to have children. as the only girl in my family and extended family...aunts and even my mom always are saddened by the fact that i don’t want kids or say “maybe you’ll change your mind” i’m about turn 18 in a few days and i might be young but it should be okay if i don’t change my mind about having kids.
@devanshitanna
@devanshitanna 3 жыл бұрын
Yess it should be and it is okayy.. I'm only 16 and still have thoughts about this.. I don't see myself having kids in the future and for me to say that verbally means having to hear a lot of judgemental thoughts of various people.. And yes the sentence "u'll change ur mind" or u won't believe but I've also heard "well thats a waste of ur ability to reproduce".. Which is one of the reasons why I never say it anymore.. Like idk maybe I will change my mind but as u said it should be okay if if I don't because end of the day it's me who's gonna have to take care of that child not u and that gives me the right to choose if I want to or not.. Having kids is not something anyone should do out of peer pressure or if u have any kind of "oh I'm not sure if I'm ready but let's just do it what could go wrong" type of thoughts.. There's so much that goes into raising a child and I just know for a fact that it's not for me.. I don't wanna have kids and then have those kids go through half of the shit I'm going through coz of parenting issues.. Maybe if in the future somehow all of the things I'm paranoid about go away and I feel confident enough to know that I could raise a child well then maybe there's a chance I'll have a kid.. But I just don't see it and if that's how I choose to live life and it's hurting nobody then that's none of anyone's business. Just felt like ranting so there I go.. 😂😂

@@devanshitanna I am 16 as well and while I see myself possibly adopting or fostering teenagers, I never see myself having children. I think a lot of people are disappointed in that because my family placed all of their hope for grandchildren and great-grandchildren on me, and ultimately, it is my choice.
@WelcomeApathy

As someone who is twice your age, I didn't want kids at your age and I still don't. I still get the comments about "maybe you'll change your mind" sometimes, but not nearly as much. And they aren't as patronizing usually. They just literally don't understand it, whether because they really wanted kids or they've been brainwashed into believing kids are necessary. It's a lot easier for me to ignore them regardless, as I've gotten older. Now, some people do change their mind. Or they have a surprise that they chose to keep. That is valid, and does not mean they were wrong in the past, it just means they changed. Everyone changes, it's part of growing up. Some people change that way. And others don't. Don't worry about what others say or think, especially about something so important. Do what feels right to you.
@lilliealicea8002

The great thing is, if you somehow end up at sixty wishing you had children, there is always the opportunity to foster. There is no upper age limit to be a foster parent, and many continue to foster up into their seventies. A family does not have to expand in a traditional way, and a person should never feel pressured to have kids when it's not something they want.
@mariejoris2052

The fact that people are even asking if you want kids when you're barely eighteen is deeply concerning to me. Not only because you might change your mind but also because eighteen is YOUNG! And of course no hate or shade to the people who DO have kids at eighteen, great for you, what I mean is, why are adults asking those questions when I'm pretty sure that if you told them that you're pregnant at this point in your life they would find you too young.

Whenever you talk about jd I always want to say that as someone who was in a mass shooting, I think heathers is extremely close to home . And I am so grateful that you are willing to talk about the hard truth that is the character and his actions in school and mass murder . So thank you for recognizing this and not ignoring it .
@ekohw
@ekohw 3 жыл бұрын
Agree! It's not wrong for a musical, show, movie, ect to have things like terrorism in it, but don't ignore that there is a message there about it. Since yes, school shootings do happen and it fine to be put into a musical, but acknowledge it and talk about it.
@l.c.williams9813
@l.c.williams9813 3 жыл бұрын
@@ekohw yes! People can't be afraid to talk about it and the truth behind it . I'm glad Ryan talks about the psychological aspects of jds mind . It is something that I've always struggled with coming to terms with after my shooting, is what caused that , mentally . And the fact that Ryan goes into that is unbelievable. I hope Ryan never stops having those hard conversations and that people hear him. You never think it could happen until it does and it is important to stop the person in there tracks . Movie and musicals like heathers can bring awareness in the weirdest of ways , and sometimes people say , no its not about school shootings or mass shootings, but you look at the big picture and it is . You just have to use that to then teach . So thank you 😊

To the point of "when do you want to have children" - i think its also important to note that ITS OKAY to chnage your mind about these things too. Someone can go from "I never wanna have kids" to "wow... i want 3 kids" or vice versa. And you dont have the right to say "but you said...." like no, opinions change overtime and you qre not living their experience of life. As a young woman in her 20s I see the pressure of society all the time like yes, when I was younger I was avid about having kids but not anymore... and that should be okay without people being like whats wrong with you?
@ekohw
@ekohw 3 жыл бұрын

I love that Sam brought up the importance of having children because you want to and have stability (financially and mentally) not just because your body is able to do so. I’m 19years old in my second year of university, n my family (Greek n Venezuelan) always ask me when I’m going to get married and have kids. It surprises me that it still shocks them every time I say I want to establish myself in this world before I commit to a serious relationship and raiding a human being.

First, when did the hair change? I missed that somehow. Also, as far as age goes, the older you get, the more okay large age gaps become. For example, at 41, it would not be terribly crazy that I'm dating a 28yo. It's all about how you vibe, and if it works, that's all that matters. There will always be people who don't agree with your life choices, and all you need to do is ignore them because it's your life, not theirs.

I don’t want em. I don’t want to birth kids or even adopt them. Kids are fine. Just like in small doses. I agree with sam there. Also while I don’t have a huge age gap w my husband. I am 6 months older than him. People always find it hilarious bc I am way way shorter than he is. I’m 4’11 and he is 6’2 ish. Lolol. I’ll pop in like HAHA I HAVE SENIORITY I WIN sometimes and he just laughs. It’s so funny.

Sam prolly dreams about the future and stuff. It's okay girl, even if you didn't mean for that to come out today. Sidenote: I would also like the pomeranians and a sexy husband. And a hampster.

It's really sad when women are expected to have kids. My ex pressured me to have kids (we aren't even married yet 🙄) because his parents were asking him for grandkids.

I have the same experience that Ryan has... but like as a female. Still feels a little predatory because I’m used to a man being the head of household. Now that the table has turned I would wanna know what the differences may be (?) if any when in a age gap relationship. 😁

The way Ryan FREAKED OUT about Sam saying husband, even though they live together and have been together for a while hahaa! (I get they aren’t ready, no pressure, but just funny that it scared him!)

I have family that don't want children but still love kids including her step kids and step grandchild and supporting there wishes is the best thing. Age gaps mean nothing if you don't have an issue in your relationship with the age gap.

I really don't understand the issue of an age gap. My boyfriend and I have a 5-year age gap and we've been together for over 3 years. There's nothing to "make work" because it just does work. Though we started dating when I was 23 and he was 28. Yes, he was older and had "more experience" but so did I in other aspects at a young age compared to him at his point of his life. On another note, Ryan's reaction to the husband comment was hilarious. They've talked about the importance of having the marriage conversation before so it was extra funny to me.

To comment on the 'kids' question. Not only should it not be assumed because someone might not want kids. Someone might not be physically able to have kids and asking that question can be extremely traumatizing.
