The Philippine team did a great job winning games but lost in the final against China and settled for the silver medal. Samboy scored 25 pts in this final game and was then named into the Asian Games Basketball Mythical Five selection during the awarding ceremony.

Samboy was a genious with the ball. The way he played the game was well ahead of its time. He can dominate a game despite his size and yet with all those accolades and accomplishments, he remained a gentleman of the Sport. To me, he is by far the best Filipino basketball player ever, pound for pound, to play the game. ❤️ Thank you so much Samboy for those unforgettable memories.... Rest in Peace.

Iba talaga si Samboy Lim pag international competition. I think he played his best pag international competition. I remember reading when I was a kid, nag laro NCC sa Italy. Samboy put on a show, na asthma attack pa siya at hinimatay siya. Talagang todo bigay si idol. Kaya till this day, si Samboy ang idol ko, and seeing these old footage never gets old for me.

Sana sir may video ka nung nsa PABL siya. Ang bangis ni samboy nun. He can walk and change shot in the air. PBA at that time was rough that's why he got injured most of the time. Humble din si idol.

Eto na naman tayo sa great. Great kasi di pa marunong mag dribble ang mga intsik. Real talk. Ang layo na ng advancement ng basketball sa atin ng ibang asian countries. Nung nag nba si haddadi iran ang powerful. Nung nag nba si yao ming sila na naman ang powerful. Ngayon anjan si hachimura ng japan. Napag iwanan talaga tayo. May bobong coach pa na ayaw unalis. @@monopolarmaster4262 that's why I said it was the LAST great era of the Philippines, the past being our metric of how low we have dipped. Incidentally, you used the same metric too by mentioning Samboy (only). While I agree with the 1st half of your rant, the last was just some juvenile bs that are nonsequiturs to my nostalgia. And mind you, it's not just the Choke Coach, it's the whole damn bureacracy, economics, and powerplay that had reduced the once formidable Philippine brand of bball to this mess. As fir other nations having NBA players? It's the effect and NOT the cause of a sound and sustained (by decades) basketball program.

He did one time. Gigil si Crite kay Lim dahil binubuyo sya ni N.Black na hindi nya kayang papalin si Lim. Hindi nakita ni Lim, pinalpal sya, biglang sumulpot sa likod si Crite. Crite is the greatest shot blocker PBA import of all time pero si Samboy lang ang player that time na hirap na hirap si Crite na butatain.

Without any Naturalized Imports, the Philippine Basketball team never had any more International Tournaments Championship in Basketball... the last was the 1973 ABC Champions with ALL FILIPINOS without Naturalized Imports and a Filipino Coach... that was 50 years ago... repeated in 1985 ABC and Jones Cup but with 3 American Naturalized Imports (Steele, Moore, and Ingeland) with Fil-American Coach Ron Jacob.

Samboy Lim outran, out hustled all the Chinese players in that event. 3:03 He didn’t need euro step or side step in which we know in 1990 it wasn’t even a thing, during that transition pass to execute a basket but by great footwork and knew how to use spin “pektus” on the board. What a legend

yes, that is true. Isang linggo lang kase sila nakapagpractice. try mo sir to watch the full game sobrang daming passing errors at hindi makashoot mga players kaya Samboy tried to penetrate para mabuwag depensa ng China. Halos kalahati ng game lang naglaro si Lim dyan dapat binabad sya ni big j kase sya lang nakakascore ng maayos.

@@TaongGrasa1974 si allan caidic hindi halos makaporma nyan. Si Ma Jian ba nman bantay niya. 6'7 height at may mobility pa sa depensa. Mga sentro ng China niyan ang babata pa. Nasa 21-23 lang edad nina Ma Jian, Gong Xiaobin at Song Ligang. 7 footer ng China si Shan Tao ay 20 yo lang yta noon.

Worst coverage ever Ito ng Asian games noong 1990. Wala silang pinalabas na ibang sports at wala ring live coverage ang basketball. Ang dinadahilan ng commentator ay yung oras ng satellite feed late daw pinapadala sa pilipinas. Parang 9pm o 10pm ng Gabi nila pinapalabas yung game. Telephone line ang ginagamit ng sports ànalyst natin Sa Beijing. 1994 Asian games bumawi sila. Lahat ng game ng basketball live. Pati yung tatlong gold medal Match sa boxing na live na nila.

yah agree but we're still proud cuz this was the last time Phil team made it to the asian finals. if they won this game, should have played the US 1992 dream team. Sayang isa an lang. 1 week preparation lang kase sila dito.

@@xerxerex7599 Tama ka 1 week preparation pero parang nadagdagan pa ng 2 weeks (na delayed yata yung opening o na rescheduled yung games Hindi ko na matandaan ha ha.). Kung sinama lang sana sa line-up si Alvarez at asaytono at walang sakit si codiñera baka naging close ang laban sa china

If u watch the full game. Samboy played almost half the game only. His teammates missed so many shots. The only way they can score properly was when Samboy penetrates. The Chinese guys couldn't stop him. If not because of him. Maybe another 60 pt lead by the Chinese team. Just be proud kabayan that we won silver medal for this Asian game without any naturalized players and Filam players. 😁
