A look at two breath controllers I use with Sample Modeling instruments. My system is an i-940 PC running Windows XP Pro 32 bit. SONAR 8.5 Producer is my DAW and I used Kontakt 4.24 in this demo. Sample Modeling is really pushing the envelope for realism & real-time control. Perry

just wow. i have that collection of brass instruments (the trumpet, the french horn, etc), and while they sound amazing with relatively little work, you've shown that their expressiveness STILL has room to shine. you've just sold me on getting a breath controller. thanks for the great video, and for sharing your talents with us :-)

Thanks Rohan! Valhalla Room seems to be my "go to" reverb these days. I removed all the preset reverb from the SWAM instruments and most from the Kontakt ones. I then used Valhalla on the final stereo mix. I like most of the "dark" presets in Valhalla. I think I used "LV426 Wide Sweet Hall" from the "Den" bank on most of the brass stuff and "Big Wood Room" on the saxes. -Perry-

Excellent demos Perry!! You’re a lucky man, your wife plays too! I own a BC3, I have to run it through my DX7. Your demo makes me want to pull it back out and use it again. *** Have you tried it was strings yet? I haven’t looked for breath controllers lately, but with the purchase of LA Scoring strings last year I want to see how well a breath controller sounds. Their Legato is not velocity sensitive. Somewhere I got the schematics for the BC4 because I wanted to make a USB box for it. Thanks again for the post!! Our church always needs horn players. Your demo proves there’s an alternative when we can’t get the real thing.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post this video, it is such a great service to others. Your playing and compositions are fantastic. Can I ask what CC message are you controlling with the breath controller? (with the sample modeling instruments)? For example, on the sax, it looks like you are controlling pitch bend and vibrato from the keyboard wheels (?), leaving a different CC message & associated sample modelling parameter to be controlled by the breath controller (which one?). What is your favourite way to work with the sample modelling instruments (i.e. in terms of which parameters do you control in real-time and by which means/devices)? . Thanks again for a great video. Paul.

Hey Rohan. Yeah, I grew up playing trumpet. The straight linear control is the easiest for me. Adjusting the back pressure / resistance is probably the most important thing if you aren't used to playing a wind instrument.

@perrydarmond7162
@perrydarmond7162 9 жыл бұрын
Zorro It is not freeware. The developers put a great deal of time & money into creating it. The brass requires Kontakt, while the woodwinds have their own SWAM software, neither of which will run on an iPhone. Hope that helps.
@VFXCommander
@VFXCommander 9 жыл бұрын
Perry D'Armond Thanks. I thought I could use my iPhone as a breath control pad. I have a very hard time learning how to draw the perfect expressions for both the modulation and breath. What I do all the time is playing the notes and then playing with expressions by drawing. I only have a mouse and a keyboard nothing else attached. No piano, no midi controls, no cc controls, nothing. Is it bad? I really want to control the realism of an instrument.

So impressive! As a trumpet player, you undoubtedly have masterful control over breath. I wonder if someone like me, who's neither a brass nor woodwind player, would be able to have such control. Also, is it possible to do double tonguing using the breath controller? Great video!

Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I don't mean to be rude with this question but does it not matter that the sounds are so unrealistic? All the brass instruments - though played with expression and musicality - sound so very synthesised and unlike real world instruments as to sound. Or am I missing something and this shouldn't matter?
