I'm sorry to read that and to realize you're not even an exception in the USA. I've read a couple of pages of that specific book, that isn't part of the curriculum in any school by the way, an it is indeed really specific and I think the language is a bit weird, using phrases as up the bum or giving a handie. It's a lot of slang and I"m not a fan of that. The book explains that kissing is as intimate as sex and that you might not want to go further with a partner than kissing and that a good partner respects that, but when it comes to anal sex or nipples, it over generalized that it's "mega" sensitive and it's not explained (on that page next to a picture) that that's not the case for everyone. The way it explains how apps work is basically a step for step list. I haven't seen pages before or after that, so it might talk about minimum age for access and I assume it also talks about consent, judging by the part about kissing. It's not a book I would recommend to children, but when I read your comment I was like, even if it lacked everything I didn't see on the few pages I saw, it's still way better than nothing. And if I had read this book as a teen, having had sex education on hetero sex, including important things like that everyone is different and sensitivity an preferences vary from person to person and what everything is called in plain English, I would have no issues with understanding that generalizations might not apply to everyone. I would've written it very differently. I think that the author wanted to make it seem like the book was as "hip" as the kids are to make it easier for kids to read and I don't think that's the best approach. Lingo and slang very much varies and I think it will just make kids laugh and not take it seriously. And maybe the author aimed for not being taken too seriously and I think that there might be good arguments for that as well and that there's also a lot of room for that and that it does help with sexual education. I think that an educational book with comics and a little comedy can very much work. I don't think this author was going for that though. So I think there's much room for improvement. But seeing as how few books there are for kids and young adults, I think it's good that it's there and that it should be available.

Literally. I was a child in the 2000's right before the having a computer/laptop and cellphones were an average every single household type of thing, and we STILL found out about sex. I was 5 years old the first time I got touched, and it was by a boy who was maybe 10 or 11. I actually did know that it wasn't ok because my mom (who was molested and etc by a family member) taught me early on what my body parts were and that they were private to me and shouldn't be touched. She started those lessons when I was like 2 or 3 years old. By the 6th grade (11) the 06' -07' school year, phones started to be in the pockets of students. My family got our first desktop. And when there was a virus because security was crappy back then, pornographic images would randomly pop up. That didn't even matter because my classmates were already talking about having sex (though I'm sure most were lies) and they had playboy magazines, and we used to call the party lines which was stupid and dangerous but it was considered fun. None of those things were my ideas. Other kids told other kids who told other kids and it got to me. Those party lines were filled with men hearing 11 year old voices and they didn't give a damn. They still asked vulgar questions because the opportunity was there. But at least my parents taught me what to expect, not to give my personal informations to strangers and etc. I used faked names and didn't give extra info because I knew that what I was doing was stupid and could get me taken. Now these kids have iPhones, ipads, widespread social media, dating apps, laptops, and etc. If I knew what sex was (specifically blow jobs and other acts) through my friends by age 11 in 2006, then these kids today surely know, and probably by age 9 if not younger. Educate to keep them safe or else they will be naive when they do try to explore.

"Gender queer" is not a sex Ed book. Pictures of Nickelodeon characters giving oral does not teach one how to perform oral. Cartoon pictures of dirty pads is not educational. There are no instructions in the book on how to correctly use a pad. It is a dirty book that serves no educational function whatsoever. So the sex Ed argument is void to anyone who has actually taken the time to look at the book they're talking about.
