One is $250, the other is $70, both sound amazing. Which one is the right one for you? Let's compare these two USB/XLR dynamic microphones and see which is right for you!

Q2U sounds way better. I've been eyeballing the MV7 for a while now but pretty much all reviews it just doesn't sound that great to me and the plosives are brutal. No USB C was the final nail for me. I ended up with the Q9U and I love it. Sounds great.

The red light on the Samson kept flashing almost most of the video LOL You get waaaay too close to the mic. On another note, the only thing that makes the MV7 better than the Q2U is the LOOK.

@@KingOFFLINE LOL why shouldn`t it work, BOTH are USB mics!, Q2U without Software / Hardware settings just does not sound as good as the mv7, that`s it. AAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaand You need EXTRA Hard- or Software for the Q2U to sound good, or as he mentioned in the video, you have to do a lot of post-processing then, but with the delivered software for the mv7, when useing USB, it just sounds great!, if you wanna use XLR, You have to have a hardware device!

These is one of the best comparison for these two microphones. Very authentic and clear demonstration. Thank you 😊 To my ears, they have some difference in the sound. I like them both for the sound. I do like the Shure MV7 that it has a little bit more natural n clear sound than Q2U , the usbC, the appearance and the accompanying app. What I like on the q2u are the sounds that is a bit more to warm radio compress voice and the unbeatable price with accessories that it come with. It’s gonna be my first microphone for podcast and sounds record for video. It’s tough choice. Both provide good value and have their own edges over the others. Anyone want to give some advice?

@@StreamGearTalk Thank you for replying. My budget can stretch to mv7 when it’s on sales here. I just have to wait a bit. I wonder is it worth it in term of productivity and time saving. I would use either of them in USB mode and I wonder if the Shure app could cut the time for post processing if I adjust in pre production with its app. If it could , plus a little bit of better quality, may be to wait a bit and get the mv7 is a better value option . Thank u Frank.

I’ll tell you this. The mv7’s app is good but since this video I’ve found that adjusting the settings (eq,gain, etc.) yourself is the best way to get the results you want. Both mics are solid and with a good understanding (basics) you can get either mic to sound the way you want. What type of sound are you going for?

@@StreamGearTalk Aw thank you very much. You mean adjust the eq and gain on the app I record on? Im sorry for noob questions. It’s my first record. I am not sure if I can do that without the sound interface. I want compact, warm, a bit dramatic sound. I don’t know if that the way to describe the sound 😅

Yea adjusting the eq and stuff either the app you record on or in post in your video editor. And yea if that’s the sound you want you can honestly achieve that on either mic with some eq work

I have the Q2U and it works great. You can’t beat the price. Bandrew on Podcastage is the reason why I bought it. Most mics have too much boost in the vocal range and has a lot of sibilance in them.

This is exactly the video I needed! Watched Bandrews a couple of times, but I really needed to weigh up these two specifically. Not sure if I could quickly tell you where I’m at and see what you think? Would appreciate the help, but no worries if you’re busy 😅! I’m currently on a bit of a budget using an iPhone 11 for the purpose of filming talking head videos (with the odd bit of voiceover recorded separately). I’ve been using a Blue Yeti to do this as I can plug it directly into my phone and avoid audio syncing in post (which is a bit time consuming at the moment with my limited editing ability 😅). Unfortunately as you’ve mentioned, the condenser is a nightmare for me in removing the super tiny and annoying reverb it’s producing, even after noise gating and what not. My room is fairly small, untreated and I reckon I’m no more than 30-40cms away from the mic when my camera is set-up on my desk tripod. I like to have the mic out of shot for the videos I’m doing, but I do occasional do video podcasts so I wouldn’t be bothered about it being in shot for those. Anywho to stop a long story getting longer (I’m sorry!), I’m currently debating selling my yeti to reinvest in one of these two mics. Currently I can get the silver variant of the MV7 for around £222 or if I order the Samson Q2U on Amazon I can grab it for £59.99 (although it’s currently out of stock for a month or so). Part of me thinks getting the Q2U would be a good idea for allowing me to also grab some cheap key lights for a combined total of £100 or so. But on the flip side, the Shure sounds like a better mic that may also last longer in the long run? I guess my only other question would be if the Shure MV7 works with an iPhone/if it does is it possible to use the app to set its settings whilst then leaving that app to use a video/camera app? Realise I’ve waffled on a bit here so apologies! My channel and podcast are currently quite small, so I don’t know if I’m being daft by jumping straight to a £200+ mic, rather than improving two areas of quality simultaneously 🤷🏼‍♂️.

Hey sorry for the late response! If you’re in need of lighting and a mic go with the q2u. You’ll get a solid dynamic mic and lighting upgrade. I always recommend upgrading as much as needed for as little as possible at first. The MV7 is great but with your need for lighting I’d go with the scenario that grants you both.

@@StreamGearTalk hey! Not a problem at all and I’m so, so sorry for the bloody essay I wrote out before (I’ve no idea why I did that, just think I lost the plot that day 😂). Really appreciate the reply and I’ve indeed done just that, new lights and a Q2U ordered (bit the bullet and paid a tenner more since it’s price has risen). My Yeti as of 20 minutes ago has just started producing a continuous static noise (similar to a heartbeat monitor flat line type sound) so I think it’s had it in anyway. Must have known I was considering an upgrade 😂!

I think the MV7 sounds harsher than the Q2U, and the plosives are worse. The Samson sounds better (warmer, fuller), but the sibilance is brutal. I suppose you can drop the highs in post to tame the sibilance, but all you can do to kill plosives is use a pop-filter, which limits proximity effect. By the way, the MV7X (XLR only) sounds much better than the MV7 through the XLR connection. I'm not sure I want to deal with all that digital hoo-ha on the MV7. I don't NEED to use USB, and XLR usually sounds better, anyway.

I thought he was just a touch too close to both mics. I'd put a pop filter in front of both to help with plosives and add another inch of distance to the capsule. This might also (arguably) reduce a bit of the sibilance. I bought the Samson Q2U to toss in the laptop bag to use with OBS or Zoom when I'm traveling . I'm not asking it to be studio quality. I've had enough stuff disappear over the years to prefer to take the bargain gear on the road.

I’ve learned over the last few months that I’ve indeed been way too close to my Microphones. @@StreamGearTalk while we're talking about helpful advice sibilance (sssssssssss) can be reduced by approaching the mic a bit off axis (maybe a 20-30 degree angle) rather than head on. Your breath will now blow by the mic taking most of the sssssssssss with it. We want to pick up the sound wave, not the wind stream.
