I wish there were more if them, but either pay hundreds for the Emerald Night or whatever it was called, or get the Hogwarts Express. I quite like the Hogwarts Express, Lego got the overall look down quite well. But they need more traditional steam engines and stations.

Lt. Robin I’ve buyed hogwarts but I kinda make a moc of it I extended the engine a little and the tender I totally remade it was more like a hall class with a WD austerity tender

@@Kertz_osterwald that sounds awesome mate! I would like to buy another set to have 2 coaches and also maybe build a different engine with the pieces of the second Hall. Or maybe extend the old one like you have. Also with a second set I could extend the platform/ station.
@Kertz_osterwald
@Kertz_osterwald 4 жыл бұрын
Lt. Robin i kinda extended it my own was a little tricky to do cuz I wanted to stay it original as it was and I motorised it runs pretty good only the motor is in te tender so when running too fast the locomotive can derail
@Deuce_and_a_half
@Deuce_and_a_half 4 жыл бұрын
@@Kertz_osterwald Oh yeah, I heard you could modify the tender a bit and cram a motor in there. It must be a tight squeeze.

Big impact from such a small locomotive. What a great model and with the pack makes them such great value. Very sharp paintwork that's for sure. Considering how much some other manufactures are asking way to much for a small loco *cough heljan*, its models like this Barclay, that show you don't need to spend big dollars to get a good quality model. Great review, Clint

I have an old Triang "Polly" that I fitted a SEVEN pole "Zenith" motor to (from the 1950's). I bought a Ronald Dodd remagnetizer to rezap the motor. It runs very smooth and I fitted outside cylinders and connecting rod from a Bachmann Percy to it. I added weight so now it's over 190 grammes. It's my first loco as I'm just getting into model railways, thanks mostly to watching your channel. Cheers.
@Charmaster04
@Charmaster04 3 ай бұрын
Wow, that’s some dedication. The Bachmann Percy has very detailed side rods (or am I thinking the valve gear?), and it would be very interesting to see those parts retrofitted onto a less detailed, vintage industrial switcher.

Beautiful engine - it was built in 1946 and is currently at the Churnet Valley Railway. These engines were popular in quarries because of their very short wheelbase. I am sure she would not have had vacuum brakes in her working days. They were often used over roughly laid track - but they were very powerful, like your model, for their size. The oversized buffers stopped the buffers interlocking with wagon buffers on very tight curves. A very nice review.

I love your reviews even though I used to operate dc because dcc wasnt even an idea. My first upscale controller had a brake system on it. Pull back on the switch and the train would slow down. I actually got one of these in the mail today, the "Coronation" loco specifically, and I have to say that it's really exquisite! Honestly, the performance is really good after it gets run-in. Sadly, the 3 link couplings don't work as the chain links are too small, but that doesn't detract from the model at all. Well done Hattons!

These are fantastic little models, however you raise a good point about long term storage prior to sale. I received mine today (27/11/20) and found that it ran very poorly even after running in, so I opened it up and found that the lubricated parts were bone dry and strangely the wheels were actually pretty dirty. The dirty wheels may have just been my test/running loop so I can't say for certain that the loco arrived in that condition. However after a good clean with Isopropyl and some fresh lubrication, the loco now runs perfectly!

Another great review Sam. A Barclay will definitely find its way to my layout very soon! I had one question for you though. What are some of your top tips for making an engine run as smooth as possible? So at a slow crawling pace the loco won't stutter and or stop. I've found that some of my brand new locos will stutter/stall at slow speed even after being run in for a few hours.

I have no problem what time Sam uploads them... I work all hours of the night so it's nice that even Sam sometimes burns the midnight oil on occasions. It also shows how dedicated he is to the fans and railway fraternity. Shame some manufacturers cannot respect modellers; at least with realistic prices... Cough...B@¢#m@~... cough. Good job Sam.

You mention a keep-alive system a few times, and Bachmann USA actually has them pre-fitted on most of their newest DCC WowSound models, including their newest Decapods and Sc44 Chargers. So it's not completely unheard of in ready to run model trains, but might not be as necessary on locomotives that have a bunch of wheels like the Decapod.

Yeah that's true, it all depends on whether they can work on DC though - most capacitors explode if the polarity is reversed ;) Thanks for watching - Sam :)

I know that Britain is rarely actually rainy, but on a nice, rainy day, with a temperature of about 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit, I think that I'd kind of enjoy a ride in an open-cab steam loco, what with the firebox being right there and all; a ride, but not necessarily working - if I were the engineer or the fireman, then I would definitely prefer a closed cab on a rainy day. Of course, an open cab would be preferable on a sunny day, whether working or riding-along. I know that the folks at Rapido have had trouble with their packaging, protection-wise - maybe they could learn a thing or two from these Hatton's boxes. Never be afraid to explain a joke - there will always be someone who doesn't get it! RIP Hatton's Model Trains 1946-2024

Such a well made Barclay! I really like the livery on this Hatton's offering.I must ask,why do some manufacturers put coreless motors in their locos? I've had many versions of servos for the RC hobby including coreless.Cheers!

I agree - they did a great job! I don't really know - some coreless locos are fine, but they rarely beat the regular 5 polers in my opinion! Thanks for watching - Sam :)

Haha there was a real one of these lying around on display at my local garden centre for years! Always used to go up in the cab because you could🤷‍♂️. Looked it up in the news, apparently it's been moved to another railway and is being restored to full running order! Definitely gonna miss the sight of it though 😢. EDIT: The loco was actually in that exact red livery and named 'Katie' also so I think it was the exact engine it was based off!

I do like them, but I've got a few loco's were points are an issue now.. don't need any more. The only motors I know that are better than the 5 pole's are the LGB 7 pole motors ( G - gauge) but in oo gauge, they are excellent. Great review 👍

I'd bought one, such a nice looking model. Sadly mine had a problem with the mechanism (worm wasn't engaging the gear at all), and there seemed to be another problem that made it difficult to remove the body from the chassis (the suspension thing wasn't glued correctly). It's on its way back to Hattons, looking forward to getting a replacement.

there were three main differences between Andrew Barclays 0-4-0s. these were classified by cylinder diameter, 16inch, 14 inch and 10 inch. I work on a 10 inch at railway I volunteer on but we had a 14 inch no 705 before I was a volunteer which hattons model in br and gwr green. sadly Hatton don't model the 10 inch but they do have do both 14 and 16 inch, Katie being a 16inch and the Caledonian one being 14 inch in think its great they make so many varietys I just wish they make some new livery now. any way great vid

I have found that one of my favorite train photo(that is from CP 9300 class "N.V.Allan&Co." narrow-gauge railcar from the 50's that is rusting off at Sernada do Vouga on the backyard of the Workshops) is the number 9304 that shold be scrapped in 1984 but...
