bigdogelectronics.net/collect... In my experience; Television Edge-Lit LED technology is a cutting - edge technology that started with Samsung and LG in the Residential Consumer market around 2011.
By placing the LED strips on the side (edge) of the TV instead of directly behind the Screen was remarkably a way not only to making the picture better, but could also decrease the thickness of the television, making the TV much Thinner!
Unfortunately as bright as they shine with the ability to show high Contrast ratio's, they do consume power and will eventually blow out.
How to get to them is the only Key you'll ever need !

Considering how many TVs with a broken backlight I've had over the last years (about 10, and that's me trying repairs for family and friends for fun, and not my work), there should be a law to make the LED strips easier accessible (without an essentially full disassembly of the screen) and if possible at least somewhat standardized. There's really no reason that this strip couldn't be screwed onto the frame from the outside. Same for rear LED strips. Panels could easily be built with LEDs poking through the back metal sheet instead of being glued on on the inside.

Sir, you are a God-send! This is the ONLY thing on the internet I've found regarding this particular model television. The idiot that had this television before me took the light strips out and tightened it back up like it was brand new (thank God I didn't buy it). I had no idea what kind of lights to get for this thing until now. Thank you a million times over!!!

All that comes up are a bunch of strips for different tvs. I actually found something that looked like it might work, but the connection looks entirely different from the cable i have coming off my power supply board. I have a temporary fix I can try until I find the right ones though.

Thanks for the video bigdog. I have this exact tv. A few weeks ago, I noticed a hot smell coming from the left side of the edge. The frame was too hot to touch for long. Also, on the screen around the position as all the heat, I notice about 3-4 lights that look a little brighter than the others. Is the led strips that are bad and causing the frame to get hot? Again, thanks for what you share.

Once the glass panel is removed the best option is to replace all the led strips at once with brand new to avoid new openings in the near future.Is not only the burnt led but also all the others about to fail.Dry joins,semiconductor fail.And the most important is to solder with jumper wires all the connections because i think poor contact is a plausible reason for overvoltage to maintain the constant current and if the contact resistance suddenly drops this might lead to overcurrent and led failing.

Thanks for the video BigDog. I just went through this process with a similar TV and I found that only one side had some burnt LEDs. The other side all lit up. ShopJimmy sells the strips I need in pairs...should I just go ahead and replace both of them? I'm also hoping I didn't break my screen in the process. Had some adhesive along the edges that made it a little difficult to get off.... we'll see. Thanks in advance!

Great video, thanks! I have a question though. Samsung UN40FH6030FXZA, Power light is red and is flashing. I checked the voltage outputs and all voltage are there, but also on and off, except LED voltage. I checked LED voltage on a capacitor and it is ok, a bit higher than needed (like LED circuit is open? and it is also pulsing), but no voltage on LED connector at all, when I checked with oscilloscope it shows very short impulses, though. I thought I can run TV without back light just to be sure that backlight LED circuit is bad before trying to remove filter panels and check LED individually. What will be your advice? Thank you!

Fantastic video! Well done bigDog!!! I have a question on the type of LED I need for my Samsung UA55D8000. The LED looks like the 7032 but slightly different. It has 3 pads. 1 long pin in the middle and 2 small pads at either end. The insignia on the LED is LZ3D1S013. For the life of me, I cannot find any info on the LED model or where to buy them. Can you please help me with some more information? Some background for all... The fault was hard to diagnose. The TV would turn on and the LED logo would appears on the screen for a second and the power supply would then keep switching of and on again, constantly. Naturally, one would think it is the main board sending a shutdown to the power supply board but luckily I have 2 exact same TVs. I replaced all these boards on the other TV and they worked fine. So it was down to the LED strips. When I took it apart, I saw that on the LED strips 3 (upright) LEDs were missing off the strips. I have found 2 of them but one is MIA. Hence my pursuit to just purchase some LEDs to replace them. The LEDs on the bar are in groups of...well, I don't know yer but the connector has 12 wires. The moral of the story is that when a TV goes into a power-cycle, it could be the LED bars and not the boards. Regards, Vlad...

That tv can be a Tricky one. Because I think it uses a low instead of a high (5volts) to turn the backlight on. But to find out just unplug one end of the connector going from Mainboard to the power supply board. Then plug in TV. If you get Back Lights then you have a a bad Mainboard. If U dont just replace the Power supply for starters.

So mine has a little hole in the side and what it looks like a burn on the left side of the on the driver board going to screen my tv used to work fine and I open it and clean it n now the left side is dark

Hey bigdog love the help I have a 58' samsung sound no picture if I unplug right side of t-con board half screen left side if I do the opposite there's no picture. Tried a t-con board same thing. Any ideas? I also took the front besell off on the inside looks like a metalic strip around it is that how it connects the vertical strips. UN58H5202AFXZC Any Help much appreciated

Bigdog8882 samsung un46d6400ufxza has backlights...no sound, screen comes on with one horizontal greenish line then goes blackish..kinda lit up a little..replaced tcon board no change.. any ideas? Standy light is on and goes away when turned on

No, not really. You can check for a short or an open. But U really cant light them up.

@@bigdog8882 You CAN light them up with a multimeter. Put the multimeter into diode test mode. They WILL light up but very dimly.

I have this LED strip I'm repurposing for a lamp and I'm not sure how to connect it. In the back of the strip it reads 92V and the connector has 1 white cable (negative) and 5 black ones, I've got a power supply of 19V and 1.3 amps. How can I wire this? Thanks

What does it mean when the TV turns on but theres this blinking on the screen every second. I thought it might be a bad led strip but to my surprise my tv also has the edge leds as oppose to the back led strips in older models. Anyways I tested the LEDS same as you did in the video and they all turned on.

With the TV on look at the back of the TV and see if it is the actual backlights that are Flashing on/off. If so,, you could have a bad power supply board.

man i got a samsung un55d6000sfxza and it wasnt powering on at all with the red blinking stand by light. I replaced the powerboard and still nothing except now when i disconnect the powerboard from the mainboard the backlight now comes on. I replaced the mainboard and t-con board and still nothing. did I get ripped off with the parts or am i missing something?

What's the blink code. The tv is known for having bad solder connections on TM801s transformer on power supply. In most cases if U unplugg PS from Main and U get backlights, then U have a bad MainBoard.

thanks for the quick response! really appreciate that. The code is a continuous red blinking without any pauses. and I know its usually the main board if the backlights come on but I already swapped one in and still nothing :/ it is very frustrating. I feel like its something simple but I am too inexperienced to figure it out.

I would say order another mainboard. U may have a bad one.

If you replaced all boards, you have a short in your LEDs, try unplugging just the LEDs from power supply board, and do the flashlight test, if you have a picture but no light, change the backlights

Yep, I own a Samsung UN55D6050TFXZA, first I had leds in the top right corner being out, then 1 day the whole tv was out, I replaced the psu board, then I got the tv partly working, the leds were out, I'd bought a replacement psu that was sold to Me as dead, jokes on the seller, ShopJimmy said the psu board was good, charged Me a minimal amount, now after a few months of being dead, I found some New leds coming from China, the strip part number is 2011SVS55 and these are 2 pin, not the bigger 8-10pins on some tvs, in My purchase they do not come with brackets, but I got both left and right, better safe than sorry, besides they cost Me $52.00 delivered, they are on their way here. I think the number BN96-16609B v1 is the number for the assembly, since the actual strips are 2 pin and look exactly like the ones shown on shopjimmy without the extra metal. These are from a Samsung UA55D6600WJ TV, which looks a lot like My TV the UN55D6050TFXZA, not perfectly as the bezel is different. The seller said they'd work and this was on ebay. Oh and I did the flashlight test and so did the sun, I had picture and sound, just no working leds... I need your help! @10:00 you cut the video when you remove the light filter, but in my UN55JS9000FXZA Samsung SUHD there is a plexiglass piece lies just underneath the filter that needs to be replaced. The LEDs melted the part and it needs to be replaced. Do you know the name of that piece? It’s about 1/4 inch thick acrylic or plexiglass

Hi Bigdog8882, Have you experimented with back lit and side lit screen mods like swapping a side lit screen into a backlit TV with an almost identical tv same brand same year same size both 3D both 4K with 2 differences,... NANO Technology and SUHD on the side lit TV but not the backlit TV, Backlit TV is standard 4k LED Tech, Obviously i would rather fix the full array LED TV over the side lit TV, My Backlit full array has a pixel out which took out that whole vertical line of pixels... They are all lit solid blue and 1 pixel is visibly out .... So i have 1 solid blue vertical line, Several questions arise like the need to also swap over some boards or???? :) Any theories?

Big dog I need some help determining if my led are burned out or the power board is shot. I did not pull the screen apart yet . I have only pulled the back off the TV . I did the flash light test and the screen is working but no back lights. TV is a Samsung un55es6100fxza. Power board is cn07bn4400503asec295470. The only tester I have is a multi meter . How do I check voltage at led plug on board. I have tried the pins with the + to red lead on tester and black to chassis ground. I get nothing. I also tried the + to red lead and - to black lead on plug and still nothing.

Make sure that U test the + voltage just like U said as the TV is turning ON. If the Voltage jumps up for a minute then drops back down then U have bad Leds. If no voltage comes up at all and is still Zero at Power/Turn On. Then start buy replacing the Power supply. But make sure that U are getting "Power Supply ON" and 'BL ON' voltage on the plug coming from the Mainboard to your power supply board. Should be Labeled.

Hey there, fellow Chi-Town girl here. I have the Samsung UN55ES6150FXZA. I have taken the tv apart and have a edgestrip that has 2 burnt leds in it. I cannot find the replacement parts (BN96-21464A & BN96-21465A) anywhere. Is it possible to replace only the individual leds? If so, could you upload a video on how to do that please ? Also, if I am not able to do this, would it be possible for me to send to you to fix ?

In my Experience the Edge-Lit ones have less LED problems.

No it’s not better ,it’s infact slightly infirior then backlighted led tv, BUT the advantage of it is that it is thinner, cheaper to make and it uses less power then backlight led tv.

I have two flat screens one I found outside of a dumpster by my apartment and fixed a few $30 internal components and then cracked the screen, then someone gave me a tv that seems fine except that the sceen is cracked, lights up etc. So I'm having NO LUCK finding either a source for new screen display parts nor videos of anyone replacing one. Can you lmk where to get screens for both the "Hisense 32" LED LCD TV"(which I didn't know existed myself..lol) Model: 32h3e AND also an RCA 46" LCD FULL HD Model: 46lb45rq

You just spent 4 hours taking apart the TV why would you waste time testing or replacing individual LED's , stupid and a waste of time, replace all LED strips, replace one lamp in a week one next to it burns out
