I have had the Flip 3 since day one. I think this is an incredible phone for the RIGHT person. Like a lot of people, I failed to ask myself the exact question mentioned in this review. What do you need from either of these phones? I didn’t and paying the price for choosing poorly. I chose it for the wrong reasons and most of the reasons faded after 30 days. I just ordered a Fold 3 and selling my Flip 3. I am sure mileage is going to vary in my comments, so I hope some of this helps someone somehow. Let me break down what I liked: 1. The Flip 3 is a dynamo for its size. This will fit in places the Fold 3 can’t dare to tread. So if your thing is slim-fit euro jeans, meet your new phone. 2. Yes, closing it after a call is cool. It’s completely unnecessary, but I dig it is placating to my old Razr nostalgia. 3. It’s got a lot to offer for its form factor and that is the key. It does a great job for how small it Is. Is this an S21? No, it isn’t. Don’t try to make it one. It’s a foldable phone, sorry. 4. Samsung has never made a case I wanted. The leather case for the Flip 3 is the best case I have had hands down. What I didn’t like: 1. So again, its form factor limits it a lot. The battery is abysmal. The reviewers are dead on. If you are a superuser, this phone is not for you. I am a superuser after some self-realization. I couldn’t get 6 hours of battery life using at work and home without a charge. To be tied to a charging brick for normal use doesn’t work for me personally. For the phone to be dead in the morning after forgetting to put it on the charger at night at 30 percent is a dependency, I don’t want all the time. I can’t logically understand making a phone 120mhz refresh rate and then saying, “well lower it to 60 to save the battery" and get a sub-optimal experience on your brand-new phone. Own the reality of what the phone can do Samsung, don’t overextend. 2. The front screen. I wanted to love it, accept it, and champion it. I can’t. For me, nothing that front screen can do ever saved me from having to open the phone anyway. The more you must open it the more it defeats the purpose. Yes, Samsung says something like 300K flips before the hinges break. Who knows if that will hold true? If I must open the phone to use it most of the time, all that coolness fades away. Again, I just speak for myself. 99 percent of the time what I needed to do; I couldn’t do on the front screen. Yes, it does have things a lot of people will like and will use. I needed way more functionality on that front screen. If you want to wait for updates on what the front screen can do (or mod it to accommodate your use) this may not bother you. 3. The camera. I am not a camera person. I thought the Flip 3 camera issues wouldn’t bother me. It did and it does. When I can’t deposit a check online because I can’t get the image clear enough, hard stop and hard no. It wasn’t just this instance. Every picture I took was abysmal. Yes, it’s not the s21. For those that can eek out decent pics, I applaud you. I couldn’t. 4. The crease. Yes, there is an argument to be made of a horizontal crease versus vertical. The Flip 3 I think the crease comes way more into play. You won’t notice it visually after a while. The feel will haunt you; it did me. You will not escape where it is and how it will affect day-to-day use. I had a hard time with the middle where the crease is at. At times, I felt that certain sites that had clickable whatever where that crease was at did not function. In addition, even the sides of the Flip 3 caused me issues for the same reason. I had to resize or shift to landscape mode to get a functioning app or site. So you Flip 3 fans out there, I salute you and understand your reasons. You made it work and I appreciate that. Moving to the Fold 3 and praying I get a better experience. Ask the hard questions guys. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

I'm excited for the Z flip 3. I am currently using the first Z flip & considering upgrading.

I pre-ordered the pink Z Flip3. Can't wait to get it cause I luv the small form factor, the colors and new design, and it flips which is so cool.

Got the fold 3 and I will never buy another regular phone.

As a heavy media user who is a tech head the simple answer is the Fold however at a $1000 premium over the Flip there are cheaper alternatives to feed my media appetite as such a simple means of communication the flip is far more compact and pocket friendly as a traditional phone.

First of all- *I don't have that much money to buy these phones* 2nd- *My 8 yr old iphone 6 is still working flawlessly and still recieving updates* 3rd- *My phone can bend better than these two phones when needed*

Unless you have small pockets, I really don't see a practical point of getting the flip. The other benefits are all superficial, such as being able to show off something unique.

Plz do tell me about how bad is the battery drain on the Z Flip 3 as I have heard from many reviewers that SOT of Z Flip 3 was just 3-4 hours of moderate to heavy use. I’m interested in Flip 3 but only thing stopping me is the smaller battery. Do u think I’ll be okay? (I’m coming from iPhone 12).

So, why you didn't state which one is right for you? Shouldn't that be in this video? Becoming tedious when KZfaqrs generalizing answers without their own personal choice.

Thank you for your honest review. I cannot afford a Z Fold so the Z Flip 3 is more than good enough for me. I charge my flip up to 85% only. That usually lasts me 24 hours or more depending on how much I use it. My Z Flip 3 is used for calls, text messaging, IG, photography and occasional googling during the day. At night, I turn it off and use my old Samsung S9, which is still going strong. I take good care of my flip hoping it will last for at least 3 years. 😅

Not sure that these two really compete against each other, except if you are just wanting something different? The Fold is a tablet/phone and the Flip is a lifestyle fashion device?

Flip 3 is for fun. Fold 3 is for work. But who is to say Fold 3 can't be fun? Bigger screen. Nicer UI. Longer battery life. Better cameras. More useful external display. DEX support.

Just got my Z Flip 3, upgrading from an iPhone XS Max. Only thing I dislike is the battery, but otherwise I love the phone!

Have been using the Flip 3 for a week now and agree with your view. It's as fast as any other flagship right now, decent cameras, feels premium in the hand, but ok bettery life. Being able to take selfies with the main cameras using the cover display is an awesome feature as well.

I went for the more fun Z Flip 3.

Flip for me, since I want a smaller phone. I'm a heavy tech user, but if it's something I can't do on my phone then it's something I should be doing on my laptop or tablet in the first place. So far the Flip 3 has been amazing. I saw the Fold 2 in person and it was so ugly/clunky and way too thick. I need something I can hold in one hand. So people claiming Flip 3 is just for aesthetics are out of touch with reality lmao. I physically can't hold a Fold. It's too heavy and aggravates my arm injury, and most flagship phones are too heavy for me to hold very long. The Flip is absolutely perfect for my needs, and I'm more than fine with sacrificing battery life for the more convenient form factor. Big QoL improvement. The Fold and the Flip are not targeted to the same market. So all y'all commenters saying stuff like 'if you're paying that much just get a Fold since it's better'? You're missing the damn point.

Was testing out my new 8bitdo controller last night and Redream and PPSSPP can't be played in portrait like NES and SNES games can. Why I'm itching to get the Fold 3.

Ehhhh.... as a Note 20 ultra user I think I'll just wait and take a gamble on the S22 ultra... The fold just doesn't make much sense to me, especially with a tab s7 that I also use alongside it...

Surface Duo is another great option for emulation. It's only $400. Love that tent form. But it lacks software polish of the Fold. SoC from 2019 and only 6 GB RAM.

I enjoy my Flip 3 but I'm planning to get a Fold after I'm done paying off my Flip 3. About the time Fold 6 comes out. I want the Fold 6 to play emus.

Flip 3 is Phone of the Year for being that affordable gateway drug to foldables. It's the Fashion Phone of the Year. But I'll admit Fold 3 is the superior device.

I really liked Z fold 3. But, I am waiting til the Z fold 4 comes out because of the problems with it.

Fold 3 is Samsung's 2021 flagship. It's really the Note 21. Flip 3 is an entry to foldables and resurrects flip phones. But Fold 3's $1800 price scares most people.

Again someone thats wrong about the underscreen display camera in the Fold 3, xD. Having used the device for over 2 weeks now I can confidently say they made the right choice. Consuming media with a nigh invisible selfie shooter is amazing. So much better than a holepunch or a notch. Also yet another youtuber that doesnt account for Androids battery optimizing on new devices taking a few weeks to conform to your usage. Battery life is always lower at the start while the SOC, screen, and refresh rate run in turbo 100% while its still adapting to your usage patterns.
