Күн бұрынThe Samsung QN85B QLED is a high-end TV and successor to the Samsung QN85A QLED. Part of Samsung's Neo QLED series of TVs, it features a Mini LED backlight, allowing for higher brightness levels and more refined control of the local dimming zones. It sits between the Samsung Q80B QLED and the Samsung QN90B QLED. Like other Samsung TVs, it uses Samsung's proprietary Tizen OS smart interface, which offers a large selection of streaming apps and games.

How much of an upgrade in terms of overall picture quality, black levels and brightness etc would this tv be over the 2019 Samsung q70r qled?

Just got this tv and let me tell you , upgrading from the Q60 range, this is amazing. Got it for PS5 gaming and the black levels are night and day on this bad boy. Yes there is blooming but its small cons to the majors pros. I read a comment saying the smallest image on a black screen lights up the entire screen, absolutely incorrect. This you can tell from loading screens from games. Its amazing. For a non flagship current gen TV that ticks 98% of the boxes, this is a personal winner for me.

QN85B is one of Samsungs top of the line tvs, only under the QN95 and QN90B for 4k. Make no mistake the QN85B is a premium Mini LED tv that is phenomenal. I would dare say even better than the QN90B, having a VA panel provides better colors and extremely excellent contrast when viewed directly in front.

Idk if I did something wrong but I think the image is horrible. My 9 year old Vizio looks the same. I expected to be blown away.

@@catb3215 Yep current TVs and monitors have terrible default settings, really annoying beacuse mostly it looks like they didin't even tried to make them look good. We only see their overcolored and oversaturated images in local shops but when we get one at our home image is close to gray with too warm tone color so we have to play with this at our own. I have qn85b 65' For SDR content: -Film mode brightness: 40+/ -contrast: 45 -Local dimming: standard -contrast enhancer: level 1 (standard) -color: 35 or a bit less (after 40 it gets noticeably oversatured) -color tone: standard -gamma: BT.1886 -2 -Shadow Detail: --2 -HDMI (external devices manager): black level: 1 For HDR content (you set it when you watching hdr content): -brightness should be automaticlly settled on 50 and you can't change that -some settings stay the same but: -Local dimming: high (more dimming zones so better contarst, at sdr content it makes image just brighter in my opinion) -gamma: hdr have diffrent gammas but usually i set it on -1 Remember to apply your settings for both types I've got ips panel so black will never be at perfect level

High Peak Luminance create the soap opera effect on movies , even with all the motion setings disabled ?Please, tell me, what values would be suitable for a good cinematic movement . I have an 65 inch Qn90b , and the firmware is 1430.1 , the same as S95b. With 1310.1 firmware everything was fine . Thanks.

Hey so ive been using a Samsung ks9000 for decades it's a beast still fully working but I was thinking of upgrading what would be the best choice? I would use it for gaming and watching videos mainly. I saw rtings rated the s95b best 4k gaming TV so I was planning on getting the s95b but I may go all out and buy the new 2023 model

The Q80B and X90K both use different panels types so it probably depends a bit more on your viewing environment. For dark rooms with little to no light, go for the X90K since it has a VA panel, but for bright rooms with lots of light, the IPS/ADS of the Q80B is the better choice!

Hi Eduardo, We share a very similar sentiment. The Samsung QN85B QLED is slightly worse than the Samsung QN85A QLED. The QN85A has much better reflection handling, so it's better suited for a bright room. The QN85A also has a wider HDR color gamut, so HDR content has a bit more "pop" to it. On the other hand, the QN85B has a better local dimming feature, with less blooming around bright highlights in dark scenes. Whereas the QN85A only supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on one port, the QN85B supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on all four HDMI ports, so it's a bit more versatile, especially if you have multiple game consoles or a recent PC. So, unless the better local dimming trumps everything else for you, the Qn85A is the best choice (but you really won't be disappointed either way).

Will content that supports Dolby vision look okay with out it. Does the tv still display some kind of hdr on that content? Does this tv support apple airplay?

Hey Kevin, Yes, it'll drop down to normal HDR if your TV doesn't support Dolby Vision and according to a Samsung rep, this TV does support apple airplay. You're good to go!

I see on your website that you rate this lower than the 85a due to the reflection. I'm putting it in a loving room with very large windows behind the tv. Would you suggest the older model 85a over the newer 85b?

Will you still have lots of light hitting the screen itself? If you will, definitely still go for the QN85A since it has significantly better reflection handling. If not, the Qn85B should be sufficient in that area plus it has better HDR performance and local dimming, so it would be the slightly better option if reflection handling isn’t important!

Honestly, they aren't that comparable as they use different panel types. The KS8000 is a VA and the QN85B is IPS. So, it really depends on your intended usage and viewing environment. If you plan on using it in a darker room, then you'll want to get a another VA panel for good dark room performance (maybe something like the QN90A). Otherwise, if you're using it in a brighter room with lots of light, then yes, it's a good option and should be a solid upgrade!

As far as we know, the 75” model still uses ADS/IPS panels but the 85” is definitely VA!

Unfortunately, they're not directly comparable as they use different panel technology (VA vs IPS). So, depending on your viewing environment, it probably won't feel like much of an upgrade. If you're going to be using it in a dark room with little to no light, then you'll likely notice the poorer contrast and black uniformity. However, if you plan on using it in a bright room with lots of light, then the higher peak brightness of the QN85B could actually be what you need!

@@RTINGSdotcom I thought this would be a huge upgrade since it’s mini led opposed to regular qled, has hdr 24x instead of hdr 8x, has over 500 more dimming zones way better black levels etc. This really has poorer contrast and black uniformity compared to a 2019 7 series qled with over 500 less dimming zones and that’s not even mini led??

@@RTINGSdotcom I was wondering the same thing. I have the 65” Q70R and just bought the QN85A for a great price but watch TV in a dark room, so I think the QN85A is going back to the warehouse club. What’s your thoughts on qn85b 85in vs x90k 85in? I care very deeply about picture quality. I know you guys reviewed the 65in qn85b but it has the ips panel. In my country both qn85b and x90k are the same price, so what do you recommend?

Since we haven't tested the QN85B with a VA panel, we can't say for sure how it'll perform or how it compares. In theory though, it *should* perform more like the QN90B we bought and tested, so it could be worth using that as a point of reference when comparing to the X90K. Otherwise though, we really can't offer any certainty about performance without having our own data. Sorry about that!

It doesnt disable Local Dimming. Thats all you need to know when you want to buy Sony Or samsung tv for gaming. (Sony Disable Local Dimming when VRR is turned on)

I sure hope so because I just purchased the qn85b 85in. I’ve had oled for awhile but the wife wanted a brighter more vibrant tv than our a80j 77in. I sure hope it’s a great tv otherwise I’ll just return it and possibly go for the lg c2 or possibly c1.

Problem samsung has now with tiered models like this, that are deliberately capped below the QN90/95 models, is that TCL and Hisense are outperforming them and undercutting them on price. So both the C805/C845 in the EU and QM8 in the US from TCL with all be VA panels that perform equal to or better than this, with the full range of HDR support for a lower price. Likewise the U8K Hisense is also cheaper, better and much brighter at a lower price.

I had the qn90b 43inch. The best Tv ever but the inverse ghosting like he said is terrible. I ended up returning the unit. Such a heart breaker cause the rest is just perfect. Now I have to go oled which is no where near as impactful

That blooming looks awful, cancelled my purchase right after this video. Also, I didn't know this was a LCD tv because it says QLED. I avoid LCD tv's as the plague due to weaker black contrast. Thanx for the video, I now will look for a different tv.

I’m pretty disappointed, I got a horizontal and a vertical pixel line about 3 hours after starting my new TV. I was always a Sony guy and was talked into this Samsung by the salesman. Now to see what the store will do to make it right.

It’s worth mentioning that some sizes/variants have a VA panel unlike the ADS panel we bought and tested, so that could be something to keep in mind. Glad you’re happy with yours though!

I have this qn85b 55". The contrast is horrible. Compared with my previous q80r, the qn85b's picture quality is gar#### level.

@@user-gw8wz8ss6j Yep current TVs and monitors have terrible default settings, really annoying beacuse mostly it looks like they didin't even tried to make them look good. We only see their overcolored and oversaturated images in local shops but when we get one at our home image is close to gray with too warm tone color so we have to play with this at our own. I have qn85b 65' For SDR content: -Film mode -brightness: 40+/- -contrast: 45 -Local dimming: standard -contrast enhancer: level 1 (standard) -color: 35 or a bit less (after 40 it gets noticeably oversatured) -color tone: standard -gamma: BT.1886 -2 -Shadow Detail: --2 -HDMI (external devices manager): black level: 1 For HDR content (you set it when you watching hdr content): -brightness should be automaticlly settled on 50 and you can't change that -some settings stay the same but: -Local dimming: high (more dimming zones so better contarst, at sdr content it makes image just brighter in my opinion) -gamma: hdr have diffrent gammas but usually i set it on -1 Remember to apply your settings for both types I've got ips panel so black will never be at perfect level

@@iloopcip494 Firstly, thank you for spending time on those settings. I did try.The result was expected. For qn85b, any mode other than the optimizeed mode covers slightly unclear particles. Even the optimized mode can not compare with the picture quality of Q80R. The qn85b also comes with tons of other minor issues. For example, captions on some of the movies are extremely bright. Brightness between scenes can be deep., and it hurts my eyes. Even just browsing movies in Netflex, the brightness will suddenly become very bright. One of the biggest issue is that, while I can adjust the setting to make a scene looking good, it does not fit for other scenes. It is simply not possible to adjust the setting on every minute watching. My previous q80r can simply use film mode for all content. I saw lots of comment regarding qn85b. They come from two extreme. I think the likes and dislikes come from the TVs they had before. For me, I had q80r which had much better picture quality, and can not be satisified with qn85b. I am extremely disappointed that Samsung newer qn85b has picture quality sigificant lower than its 2019 precessor.

@@user-gw8wz8ss6jI noticed your problems too, brighter screen during browsing streaming services - for me actually it's not looking bad (until your eyes start being tired). First days configuring this tv was a challenge because like you said one setting on current scene does not match to others. Finally I realized that spending another hours at playing with it is a endless looking for perfection so I agreed with the settings above which are satisfying for me, I like when image is saturated and not as in filmmaker mode. My previous tv was from 2014 so I see bigger difference than you and in my opinion most of functions are just a pure marketing, So what if we have these wonderful dimming zones if they don't work well with subtitles and don't eliminate the disadvantages of the IPS panel. My next TV will be on VA panel or i choose OLED, it seems better for movies. I give qn85b 8/10 after my calibration, rtings config is meh

RTINGS. I think you rated this qn85b way too high. You rated q80r, 8.5 points on movie and 8.6 points on TV shows. I owned q80r. I have qn85b. Based on your rating of q80r, I can hardly rate this qn85b 7 points on those categories. I feel terrible every time when I watch this tv. It is even not as good as my 8-year old regular LED tv. The contrast is way way way too high, and the black is a mess.

We haven't tested the X90K yet, so we really can't say. Without having our own data, we don't like to speculate and risk giving out false info. Sorry about that. We're hoping the unit we purchased arrives soon though, so stay tuned!

obviously Samsung Qn85B because So much brighter MiniLED Wide Viewing Angle (sony dont have wide viewing angle it looks washed out at a angle) Local Dimming With VRR On (Sony disable Local dimming with VRR turn on) and probably better black(MiniLED)
