I think this year the mini LED TVs are most exciting and most competitive than ever before. There should be a comparison test between Sony, Samsung, Hisense and TCL. The QN90C used to be pretty high on my TV buying watchlist but with Dolby Vision steadily becoming the premium HDR format of choice for most streaming services as well as making its way more and more to 4K blu rays, I decided to scratch it off the list. I know that to a lot of people think the exclusion of Dolby Vision is not a big deal, but if you're paying a lot of money for a premium TV then you'd expect all the premium features. I doubt that Samsung will ever bow to pressure and finally start to support Dolby Vision but I kind of feel like they'll start to get left behind if they don't.
@michaelbeckerman75324 ай бұрын
Agreed. All of Hollywood is moving in the direction of Dolby Vision now. Very few films are being released in HDR10+ today. It's really just a matter of time before Samsung will have to finally cave in and support Dolby Vision. Now, Dolby Vision isn't perfect and it still has its flaws and shortcoming, of course, but it is what the film industry has settled on for their default HDR format now it appears. Samsung can only try and buck that trend for so long.

@@michaelbeckerman7532 it’s kind of similar to the old blu ray vs HD DVD battle. Technically HD DVD was slightly better but blu ray had more backing from movie studios so it won out in the end. Dolby Vision is winning the premium HDR format race and if Samsung continue to refuse to support it they could end up getting left behind.

They don't tell you because they don't want you to be able to make your purchase decision based on a criteria that they don't think you should be making it on. Just knowing the number of dimming zones doesn't tell you which TV has better/more advanced local dimming capabilities. If the processor can't control those zones effectively, then you could have one million zones and it wouldn't do you a damn bit of good. This is why TVs with lower zone counts but better processors (like the Sony LED's) consistently outperform TVs with higher zone counts and weaker processors.

It's crazy how people want to know the nits of a TV but turn around and put their TV and filmmaker mode that will dummy down the brightness 🤷🏾
@Tibadude5 ай бұрын
On my 43in QN90C, Filmmaker mode, in SDR, does not seem to be an dimmer than Standard, in HDR though, Movie and Filmmaker are much dimmer, even with Settings tweaked for full panel brightness. I have to use Standard mode for HDR movies cause the others are just too dim for my taste. (i still prefer SDR content though)
@Tibadude5 ай бұрын
@@Mariarosa-id3cg Disagree. HDR has always looked like one is wearing sunglasses, at night... Filmmaker mode makes things too dark and has lots of black crush. You can not see any background details at all, or is always just s dense black fog. SDR versions of movies look far more realistic to me. Furthermore, I can not stand the very yellow color tone of Warm 2 they default to. Standard tone looks natural to me, whites are white, not tan/yellow. In the end, set your tv to what looks best to you, not what someone else claims is "best".

If that is supposed to be the "standard" then why is it not then used as the "Standard" profile, no, it is not. Standard color tone is what looks most natural to me and all of my family members (at least on Samsung TVs)

How does it compare to qn91a?
@Vengeancerr15 ай бұрын
I dont know what size was measured here in the charts, I assume 65", correct me if i missed it somewhere but I got a 50" qn90d from Amazon last weekend and its already back in the box. Just way too dim for me with using it as a PC monitor. It was maxed at 50 brightness/contrast in game mode out of the box and it still looked no where close to 700-800 nits full screen so maybe the one I got is defective or they use different panels on smaller sizes. My Hisense 55" u8k just blows it away with brightness and contrast.

How fast of a processor do we really need on our televisions? It’s not like we’re gonna be editing video using the processor on our televisions although one day that may be possible. But probably not.
@michaelbeckerman75324 ай бұрын
You would be amazed. Image processing performance is just about the single most important factor on any new TV coming to market today. The more complex the content, the more that image processing capability factors into your overall enjoyment of what it is that you are watching. Processing is really everything today.

How long do previous year’s top oled tv’s last until they run out typically in the following year? Do they make it to Black Friday? I’m saving up for a 2023 lg oled which would be my first tv but am worried it might run out soon

I could see how obtrusive backlighting would be very annoying. As for upscaling, given that 95% of my content is Full HD or even worse, the quality of the upscaling would be quite important.

Forgive me but … seriously! What sort of question is that? The easy answer is yes of course, Sony make the best processor but well let me think … can you afford it ( I assume you can or what’s the point in asking ) what size is the room , is it a bright room , do you want to game or watch movies or stream etc etc .. Give the guy a chance if you ask for a recommendation by up including a few pertinent facts that help with ant tv buying decision. Apologies if you think I’m a tad rude but I know our host won’t say what everyone is thinking. Good luck with your new purchase.

@VivaLaFamous5 ай бұрын
Depends on the usage? If you watch a lot of movies and older content (like on cable vision.) Or overall just stream a lot! Then go with the Sony because of its upscaling and processing. If you play a lot of video games then go with the Samsung. I’d personally choose the S90C over this tv though. It’s basically the S95C if you get the 77inch that comes with the 2nd gen panel. And it’s about $2000-$2300 right now. Thats a huge deal!

I wish the tv still had atsc 1.0 since the channels are not encrypted since atsc 3.0 has drm with encrypted channels and hidden by a paywall that lon seidman and the antenna man on youtube were talking about when they mentioned about how atsc 3.0 works.

According to atsc 3.0 it has drm protection and have certain channels that are encrypted and they require a tv tuner or some type of way to decrypt the channels since the free channels are no longer free. Lon seidman and antenna man on youtube have videos explaining more about atsc 3.0. I'm still learning more about it myself.

I HAVE the 65 inch S90C and I am not as blown away as I was lead to believe. Blue color where they shouldn't be. I was lead to believe this tv to be the be all to end all, awesome etc. . Over saturated, maybe it is just my tv as I haven't had the chance for the company that sold me it to diagnose the problem, but time will tell. Do your research and make sure the people selling you the tv stand behind their warranties.

@@allenandlaurendarie5607 Thank you a lot for the advice/ help/ feedback. But may I ask you a question if you don’t mind answering? When did you buy the tv? Because apparently all the 77 inch models come with a 2nd gen panel. And the 55 & 65 inches has a 50/50 chance of coming with the 2nd gen panel if bought late 2023. So it’s basically the S95C, with the exception of the one connect box and a slight decrease in brightness. And I was either going to buy it from Amazon or my old job at Best Buy.
