This video explains 7 COMMON MISTAKES when practicing SUBURI and how to fix them.
"SUBURI" is Japanese for PRACTICE SWINGING and it is a very important part of training.
It strengthens your CORE, improves your POSTURE and leads to the UNITY OF BODY AND MIND.
It will also result in BETTER FOCUS, MORE ENERGY and FEELING GOOD.
Even if you think your SUBURI is fine, I recommend watching this video as a reminder of proper form.
1) Moving your head forward when you swing.
2) Your katana or bokken wobbles from side to side as you swing.
3) Putting too much strength in your arms.
4) Using your right hand too much.
5) When you bring the sword up it moves to the left or right.
6) The overhead swing is too small.
7) Your body bobs up and down.

■Katana training class has started on my patreon I hope to practice and have fun together !

If you have the money for one I highly recommend looking into getting a bokken from shinbudo weapons. Bought one awhile ago myself for $300 and it’s the best bokken I’ve ever used. They’re made from paper phenolic so it’s ultra durable without being too heavy. All in all it’s about 2 lbs so it’s comparable to a live blade in terms of weighting. Dennis is extremely accommodating and can even make them from any kind of exotic wood you desire and can even do custom jobs for that extra bit of added flair

You make excellent videos. I’m only just starting and I find a lot of people either don’t explain or show the process properly. I have bought highly reviewed books on it too which have helped but I’m more visual so this helps much more. Your video on drawing and returning the blade already helped me much more than other videos I saw not only showing more detail but explaining it much better. Saved your videos and subscribed so I can practice along with what your showing. Thank you!

its crazy how your left hand is the strongest versus the right very hard for right handed persons With a gun both hands have to stabalize the grip I wonder if european swords though are held differently

Can I hold the katana with my left hand on top or is it wrong? I go much better at hitting with more speed and precision with the left on top, also without the left above I go very badly to extract the kata from the sheath and hit.

I have a question kaz, Im 13 years old and started kenjutsu since 3 months ago. But for me my bokuto is too heavy for me while everyone else in my class can swing their sword easily. How do I improve my arm and wrist strength? The Bokuto is 2 pounds but I cant swing it straight enough. PLEASE HELP
@SAMURAIKAZARTS
@SAMURAIKAZARTS 3 жыл бұрын
It can be bad for you to use a bokuto that is too heavy for you. It can cause injury, create bad form and habits, and this can negatively impact your stance and movement. There are different types of bokuto. Make sure you find a lighter one that you feel comfortable with. I recommend that you get the light one. This way you can learn the proper form. As you get to high school and college age and have more strength and a good foundation for your form, you can use to the heavy weight bokken for improve your core, lower abdmen. It's better to use these depending on porpose In my Kaz method I teach how to use both the light version and heavy version - swinging the light one as if it is heavy and swinging the heavy one as if it is light. This improves use of the tanden, waist (koshi) and consciousness. So please switch to a lighter boken.

Kaz. Are there practitioners that only use Bokken and don't move onto a real sword? Is there a sport that only uses bokken, I ask as it seems the bokken is very popular on You-tube Kaz. Love your stuff buddy.
@SAMURAIKAZARTS
@SAMURAIKAZARTS 3 жыл бұрын
If you want to practice iai or kenjutsu seriously. it's better to use real one someday. But, if you want to do as sport or exercise something it's ok to use only bokken. it's popular and usually using bokken.

Is it much better to slow the movement swinging down at first and then try to do the movement more naturally once you feel comfortable?
@SAMURAIKAZARTS
@SAMURAIKAZARTS 3 жыл бұрын
It's better try to do both movement 🙆‍♂️ Slow move ment is for check wheather your body, breath and katana conecting or not. And Katana movement correct or not.

Hi, So i figure its worth asking. And you'd be the best person to ask. Im looking for a heavier furibo. I have a 5lbs wooden furibo. But thats quickly getting to light. Ive done some looking and found a site with 10lbs. Ill spend the 215 if i have to. But do you know of anywhere better. Not a problem if you dont. Ill just pay the peice if i have too. Thanks for your videos. Take care and have a good one
@SAMURAIKAZARTS
@SAMURAIKAZARTS 2 ай бұрын
Actually you don't need to use heavier one than that. Because eventually you need to swing without muscle.And Heavy bokken's purpose is to enhance your tanden, feel its weight, then swing down using breath and gravity.

If you cracks your shoulder, it's better don't do it. And when you do suburi use mainly your left arm, hand.

Look up "rotator cuff" and "shoulder crepitus" on Google. You might be able to do exercises like pendulums. I'm having a similar problem at the moment and the pendulums and other exercises help to relax the shoulder a lot.
