FILM DESCRIPTION:
A seemingly ideal day turns disastrous when California's notorious San Andreas fault triggers a devastating, magnitude 9 earthquake, the largest in recorded history. As the Earth cracks open and buildings start to crumble, Ray Gaines (Dwayne Johnson), an LAFD search-and-rescue helicopter pilot, must navigate the destruction from Los Angeles to San Francisco to bring his estranged wife (Carla Gugino) and their only daughter (Alexandra Daddario) to safety.

Lol, so many times the Golden Gate bridge gets damaged or destroyed in films: Magneto moved it in one of the 'X-Men' films, 'Pacific Rim' (kaiju attack), 'The Core' (cosmic/solar radiation), '2012' (earthquake), 'San Andreus' (tsunami) etc....😁

To be fair, you don't exactly get Tsunamis in San Francisco, the earthquakes epicenter would have to be out to sea, this earthquake occurred on land, so technically a Tsunami wouldn't have occurred to begin with.

There’s little realistic or suspenseful about this scene but I still love it for the sheer visual and emotional spectacle. Details like showing the unspoken “race” between a dwindling number of boats trying to top the wave, the cargo ship getting flipped, the personal moments of random people at the end.

Yes, very realistic, except the fact that the tsunami is going the wrong way because the earthquake happened under land, not sea. Just a little detail.

@Dungeon Keeper im not to good with waves but i belive in the movie they showed either a rogue wave or a tidal wave which are comepletly different from a tsunami, a tsunami (by just looking at it) is a normal wave at the top, but under the water it has the power to rip a submarine to shreds in seconds and bassicaly throw it around like its nothing, but when a tsunami hits land like this \ the wave travels up it like a ramp causing all that energy to go up but doesnt increase its height, that energy lets the wave just travel accross miles miles and milesss of land until it retracts back into the ocean, surviving a tsunami is simple if u know its coming, u only need to go to the 2nd story of a building that has good infrastructure and is not higher than 4-5 stories, for example most high schools are tsunami safe zones. Anyway i hope thats enough elaboration

And depending on how its formed you may not get a coastline withdraw, kind of like those very nasty shore breaks, pure lips of hell. Next is once the fist run up happens the next one and the next one is even higher, prime example is Kobe Japan. Where they had tsunami walls and control. The land dropped 60 feet. So the first wave was held back but the rest flooded the city. You should check your information and share facts before you make statements like this.

I remember when this movie came out, they invited a geologist to the premiere and she decided to live tweet her reactions to various parts of the movie as she saw them, and when they got to this part, she was like “Uhh no, the San Andreas fault is on land. No earthquake whose epicenter is on that fault line would create an tsunami. The epicenter has to be out at sea to create a tsunami”

Onlynway a tsunami would be created is if pieces of the land fell into the ocean. Even then the tsunami wouldn't hit cali it would travel towards Asia lol.

It would have made more sense if it was the Cascade subduction zone off the coast but it still wouldn’t create a Tsunami of this magnitude or size only 2 things can create waves of this height which would make them mega tsunamis and that’s landslides and asteroid/comet impacts

@@myizukai8478 a tsunami of this size could only be created by a comet impact theres only one spot on the planet that a mega tsunami has been observed and that is in Alaska from a landslide and that was because of the extremely confined area in the bay waters to create a tsunami of this magnitude you would need something extraordinarily dense in a massive weight and surface area to impact the ocean at such an angle that the wave would be focused in one direction there is an island that is theorized to have created a mega tsunami I cant recall the name but it was only due to the power of the wave not the height and again it was because of relatively confined regions and a massive massive displacement of water

They were not the same couple who helped Ray and Emma, they looked entirely different from them. However, didn't Ollie say something earlier in the movie about he and Ben's grandparents and a cruise ship? If so, what if that old couple was them and that was THEIR cruise ship?!

What i really like about this scene is how the protagonists arent the only ones to do the “proper thing” to survive. Always hated how the protagonist always do the right thing to survive but everyone else doesn’t.

I agree. To have that many others riding towards the wave, only for just the protagonists to succeed, was a little bit annoying. It would've been cool if at least one of them in one of those other boats made it like those protagonists did. It reminds me of how not only one other person survived along side Indiana Jones and Marion in Raiders Of The Lost Ark after the ark was opened. You'd think at least one other person there would have known what Indy knew, or at least overheard him screaming about Marion keeping her eyes shut, and then did the same to survive as well.

This movie is so unrealistic. First off, those buildings are actually built to withstand earthquakes like this. Secondly, a tsunami would NOT form. The San Andreas fault line is mostly on land so there is no way it could create a tsunami. Lastly, the professor says you would feel it on the east coast, but an earthquake that big in real life would not be felt on the east coast.

I like the detail of how the other boaters are going TOWARDS the wave, not running away. Its a smart move for them to do that.

@@The-Deadite That's when ships are designed to do. In the event of a rogue wave [because realistically ships never actually encounter the tsunami wave, but there are other massive waves that occur at sea] ships are supposed to turn their bow into the wave and try to ride over it before the wave crests, meaning before it folds over. Even if it doesn't make it in time, the ship is designed to sort of cut through the wave and whatever damage it may take [that being only in the event of like, a MONSTER wave] would be nothing compared to what would happen if the wave struck broadside, which could roll the ship over.
