Best Western Plus Island Palms and Marina is a great place to lodge if you want to visit all San Diego has to offer but stay on the quieter Shelter Island side with a terrific view of the night skyline.
Its numerous buildings are spread out over several acres with the marina on one side and Shelter Island Pier, Playground, Grace Beach and North San Diego Bay on the other.
Inside your room you'll find a bathroom with separate sink area, which is always a plus, a microwave, mini frig and coffee maker, desk with chair, in-room safe and cozy chair by the window. Request a balcony room on the marina side where you'll have 2 chairs and a table to enjoy your morning coffee while watching the boats go by!
The Blue Wave Bar and Grill indoor/outdoor restaurant and 24/7 coffee and infused water are at the ready in the main lobby building as well as a marina office and small store downstairs.
Up for riding bikes along the shoreline? They're complimentary here! And when you're done, there are 2 pools and hot tubs for your enjoyment as well.
Within just a couple miles, you'll find Sunset Cliffs Natural Park to take in the sunset, Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery and Cabrillo National Monument with its lighthouse, whale watching overlook, tide pools and stunning views of the whole area all the way to Mexico.
You're less than 8 miles from most any of the other San Diego attractions you might want to visit like Balboa Park, Sea World, the Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy, Old Town, Downtown, etc.
When it's time for dinner, head to outdoor dining at either Ketch Grill and Taps for their Sesame Crusted Bigeye Tuna or Brigantine, where you should indulge in the Parmesan Crusted Sauteed Sand Dabs followed by Mud Pie for dessert.
And lastly, walk across the street and catch the sunrise over downtown and the mountains as a stunning finish to your San Diego vacation.
