Hello there you beautiful people! and welcome to this video about Sanctuary: Shattered Sun the RTS project trying to be a true spiritual successor to the RTS games made by gas powered games and designed by christ taylor. Def agree with that statement. However to me the best strategy games (minus zero k) are total annihilation inspired. Beyond all reason is amazing. The og ta with the escalation mod is perfect. But yeah sup com f a is hard to beat. I hope sanctuary has close to the unit variety that escalation has.

@@austinstoner6270 The other thing is that Supcom had a very nice aesthetic to it. At least in my opinion. The ships, tanks, planes, landscape and water all just look good. I don't quite like the tac missile mechanic but that's a minor gripe. I played TA spring years ago and while impressive and with good mechanics, it didn't draw me in the same way.

I love me some FAF. The gameplay for FAF is incredible. But even with modern machines, the performance bottleneck is a real hindrance. If Sanctuary can nail the basic gameplay, UI/UX and the performance can scale, then I'd say that would be some even footing. You're right that will be quite the challenge. Balance can be refined over time. The modern graphics will definitely help things out

I REALLY REALLY hope that with the chassis system they add ways so the ACU can 1v1 an experimental and win. The thing I miss most from the early FAF days were when people played with mods. My best experiences in faf were playing old Blackops+ACU modded games, sinking all my resources into the ACU and having it take on armies of bricks, monkeys and loyalists. It added so much more complexity, strategy, and positioning to the game. I honestly though it should have been added to the core. The ACU isn't a 'hero unit' in faf its a baby toy, like seriously who enjoys sitting their com underwater and forgetting its even still around.

Yeah, it is definitely more complex when you need only one unit in a strategy game.

@@DartNoobo Fair point but it's just an option. I mean people rush experimentals all day long in faf. So what's the difference in 30k mass into experimental units vs 30k mass into ACU upgrades?

2:30 i wish Human Resources (ai vs eldrich cosmic horror, by Uber Entertainment) was able to get funded- one of their map damaging weapons would literally cut the map in half and the pieces would float away from each other

Maybe if they made the naval unites have amphibious capabilities like some units in Supreme commander did. Being able to walk on solid surfaces.

I dont think there doing anything cool like that..From what I see the factions are similar to Supcom but none of them seem to have cool abilities that distinguish them from one another..

@@peterc504 yes the gameplay matters more but there's no need to come in and be negative and act like people being excited is a bad thing. You can make this argument about every game ever. People excited about elden ring before it comes out? What idiots. Yes there is a chance for the game to be shit but assuming it will be is just as daft as assuming it will be the best game of all time.

Grand scale is something the RTS genre has been sadly missing for a long time (the excellent FAF and it's sibling LOUD being exceptions) .. instead it has been thevery similar games like Call to Arms and Company of Heroes that has been the norm... consollified games IMO (like SupCom 2). Or the frantic clickfest known as Starcraft 2. It's time for a change... let's bring Gyle and FAF into the global spotlight! (And hopefully Sanctuary will be a worthy reinvention of the genre). What I personally like about the grander games is the greater emphasis on well thought out and continuously evolving tactical and strategical decisions.

tbh Zero-K has terrain deformation mechanics, also nukes (and com explosions) can create small lakes on the map in Beyond All Reason, so there that.

simpro is a rare thing implemented in rts and for a good reason that we see on faf - which is cpu bottlenecking. For one i absolutely love the chaos and possibility of microing units out of the enemy fire, on the other hand russian players throwing game into stellar -4 speed make me wanna quit. The hopeful resolve to this would be multithreading for cpu and i hope sanct devs do keep that in mind. Anyways i'm seeig forward to it, good material willow.

as long as they completely replicate supreme commander, and only make improvements, ill be happy, otherwise its just a waste of time.

40kmx40km maps!? That's absolutely insane! How can a computer even run maps that big.... Or wait, maybe that is really small? I've played bigger maps on my Apple IIe! But seriously, saying a map size in km means literally nothing unless you know what the scale ratio to the units is.

Calling it now, if this game gets a DLC it will introduce an alien faction called the Cherubs.

Splitscreen mode, and Dual monitor support PLEASE!!! And toggleable levelution PLS, feel like its just gonna be way to gimmicky and overly abused and take away from the gameplay we all want sanctuary to replicate.

Destroying the map out from under the opponent is a huge turnoff to me.

I imagine anything strong enough to blow up the ground is already going to have been strong enough to kill the units on top of it.

But wait, shouldn't you be on the sun-facing side of the sphere? Also the moon crashing into a dyson sphere wouldn't have much effect.

Nah, being on the sun facing side would immediately kill you since you'd fall off the Dyson sphere and into the sun, also even if you didn't you'd be so close to the sun you'd be burnt to a crisp

​@@WillowsDuality You're orbiting at the same radius as earth, though, so you wouldn't 'fall off' and the energy wouldn't be any higher. If you weren't on the sun facing side, there wouldn't be any sunlight. Are they using reflecting mirrors? Unless it's comparatively small, you're at risk of flying into space (because you're orbiting, centrifugal force is what holds you to the inside)... unless it's not spinning, in which case it has to hold itself up and a nuke isn't nearly enough to damage it. And if it is comparatively small, that and also you have to deal with the heat in a surface area not much bigger than the sun (which means not much colder than the sun...)

The sphere is using the sun's gravity. So it's much closer than Earth's orbit to get 1g of gravity. Too close to sustain life on the interior of the sphere. And yes they are using holes in the sphere and mirrors to produce a natural amount of sunlight

Whats new compared to FAF, nothing. Why consider this? more than 2 cores could be supported? It seems they build it for a quad core, i hope it uses at least 4 cores, up to 8 cores or this game wont work well.

3:42 Balance issues? The weather change ain’t a balance issue! It’s their fault for becoming a one trick pony and dedicating all their resources into a navy! You’re supposed to have a *balanced* army. It’s not that it ain’t fair, it’s called strategy, and dedicating all your resources into a navy? Seems like a really poor strategy for them and a great thing for an opponent to take advantage of!

C-Could it be? Could we finally get a RTS, which doesn't have Zoomer-vomit-colour design? Something for grown-ups? Somethin akin to the glory days of RTS-design/gfx? (early 2000's) 100 Euro Dollars for the devs if they deliver.
