This song is one of my all time favorites! I miss Matt Hammitt, but I also love where Sanctus Real is today, but those Matt Hammitt days were there when I was suicidal. It honestly saddens me that people think this song is depressing. It is quite the opposite. In fact, this song right here has pulled me out of the deepest and darkest pits of depression I have ever been in. this song lets others who are struggling know they are not alone. And when I was on the verge of suicide in my teens and felt alone and like no one cared, Matt Hammitt and the boys were there to tell me otherwise. When I couldn't see any light, all I needed was to turn to God. "I'm not alright, that's why I need You!"

Amen! Absolutely love Sanctus Real! This is one of my all time favorites as well. When this song came out I was so close to God… recent years I’ve felt far from Him. Trying to get back. When I hear this song i feel the closeness that I did all those years ago if that makes sense.

Sadly, I was suffering from serious clinical depression, and I would play this song all the time - why my girlfriend and family didn't see it...and help me get the help I needed, I don't know... Please listen to people, and notice changes in their behavior - and DON'T leave them, they may be hurting so much and they need help, and maybe they don't know how to get the help they need...

This song is about being honest about our weaknesses and struggles, and how they lead us to God, who is the only one who can heal us and make us whole. The singer confesses that he is not alright, that he is broken inside, and that he needs God's grace and love. He also asks God to burn away his pride and bring him to his weakness, so that he can be more dependent on Him and closer to Him. I relate to this song so much, because I know how hard it is to admit that we are not alright, that we have flaws and problems that we can't fix on our own. Sometimes we try to hide behind a firewall of coolness, impressiveness, or self-sufficiency, but deep down we know that we are not fooling anyone, especially not God. We need to be vulnerable and humble before Him, and let Him see us as we are, broken and in need of His mercy. I also love how this song reminds me that God is always there for me, even when I feel like I have nothing left to cling to. He is the one who leads me on, who gives me strength and hope, who makes me more like Him. He is the one who loves me unconditionally, even when I'm not alright. So I want to encourage you, my friends, to listen to this song and let it speak to your heart. Maybe you are going through some tough times right now, or maybe you have some hidden wounds that need healing. Whatever it is, know that you are not alone, and that God cares for you. He wants you to come to Him with all your troubles, and He will give you rest. He wants you to be honest with Him and with yourself, and He will give you grace. He wants you to move closer to Him, and He will give you joy. You don't have to pretend that you are alright, when you are not. You don't have to be ashamed of your brokenness, because God can use it for His glory. You don't have to be afraid of your weakness, because God's power is made perfect in it. You are not alright, but that's why you need God. And He is more than enough for you.

I see people feel like this song is depressing. Maybe it is but It's our Christian walk in life. We are up but we can be down. I think this song is powerful because we have to be honest with ourselves. When we are broken we try to hide it from everyone including God. We have to be honest and admit we are broken and let him lead us.

this song is not supposed to be depressing lol. listen to the lyrics. he is expressing how he truly feels, and all he goes through leads him to God. and the pain pushes him to the Healer. when we are broken that's when Gods light shines the brightest. we are not strong on our own, but He is strong. Leaning and depending on God when we ourselves cannot do anything.

If you want the truth I need to confess [Chorus:] I'm not alright, I'm broken inside Broken inside And all I go through, it leads me to you It leads me to you Burn away the pride Bring me to my weakness 'Til everything I hide behind is gone And when I'm open wide with nothing left to cling to Only you are there to lead me on 'Cause honestly, I'm not that strong [Chorus] And I'll move And I'll move And I'll move Closer to you [x3] And I'll move And I'll move And I'll move [Chorus:] I'm not alright, I'm broken inside Broken inside I'm broken inside, broken inside And all I go through leads me to you Leads me to you I'm not alright I'm not alright I'm not alright That's why I need you

Very sobering reminder that everyday we need Christ. It doesn't matter if you are rich or poor married with or without kids or single with or without kids or have or have not. Every one is going through something and we all are broken. The only way to be minded back together is through Christ and Christ alone. Christ has died for us and he's the only key to the father. He's the healer of all our struggles. Just take that mask off and swallow your pride and ego.

Basically meaning we wear a mask to hide what's the real truth about us. Our pride and ego gets in the way keeping us under the fear of being vulnerable in which we as Christians put on a fake smile but really we are screaming for help on the inside but unfortunately no one will notice until we take our mask off but only God knows what's really going on. The hurt, the struggles, troubles, torment, sadness, madness and unrelentless pain all within.

It seems many people comment with the understanding that it isn't okay to be not alright. It's perfectly okay to be there for a time, but don't stay there, you don't belong there and the people who love you may not know you want to hear it, but I'd bet my life they believe you should get to a better place in your life even if you don't feel you deserve it, even if you didn't earn it, they want you to be at peace long enough that you can help those in the same boat you're in.

The fact of the matter is that when an artist who paints a portrait of what God is speaking into their soul.... so many people will assume and need explanation, or forget everything in Romans 14:10As a Christian, when I sit down and let this song enter my heart, it screams of the bond between us and Christ, and reminds me when I am sitting in the puddles of a storm, feeling helpless, lost and broken... that there is a time for that... and you must grow, learn and get back up and face the world, and the only way to do that is to Right the vision and make it clear..... Luke 9

This song really spoke to me when I became born again back in 2006 after living as an out of control addict. Now here I am 14 years later. My wife wants to get divorced. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with our adopted son so I am arranging for a couple who can’t have children to adopt him. I will most likely get less than 50% of custody with my daughters. For everyone saying that this is a negative song, maybe you should actually listen to the lyrics. In the song he explains the he is not alright because of hard things that happen but the precedes to say that being broken inside shows him how much he needs to come to Christ to fix his problems.

Such a great song. I am no longer a Christian but this does remind me of the time I was and why I no longer am. Mainly being in a room full of suffering people was just not what I am into especially when I want to find my own path in life. I only felt chained down. Just because something may work for you it does not mean it works for everyone. It is important to accept others and yourself. Being in such a dark space for so long was hard but I connected with this song more so than many of the others as it did not shove bible verses down my throat. It gets down to the root of the feeling but I choose to not be codependent to any particular religion or any one person. The real answers lie within you. If Gods is everything I listen to my inner self. Sometimes I just don't believe in such thing a "God". Why are we so arrogant that we would say we are the embodiment of him or a reflection of him. Hell, why is it a "he" Off topic, sorry. When I was in church I felt I was on a treadmill going nowhere. I ask questions only to be greeted with a script from the good old bible that is full of contradictions or to be told that I should not ask questions. Why can't we just take personal responsibility for our own actions? Why can't we just stop hurting ourselves and others? Why can't we trust ourselves to make the right decisions? You know what, I am no longer broken. It is refreshing to know that I no longer cry to this song.

I agree about the interpretation. I believe that music speaks for itself when the melodies and lyrics are powerful and easy to relate to. I am a Christian, and some artists who are considered "secular" have songs that hold more meaning for me than the songs of many popular current "Christian" artists. I wish that songs and artists were not characterized because of their supposed genre or style. Forget the labels. If a song speaks to you and makes you feel alive, that's good enough for me.

the first time i saw this video, i thought that they were singing of a break up but then i remebered that they were a christian band and their songs were sometimes related to break ups but ended up coming back together with God in their lives. This song is almost like that maybe? I dont know but it is an AMAZING song!!!!

I have a theological education and I've been a pastor, but this song expresses my relationship with God better than any sermon I've preached. I hope that the more that people listen to this song, the more honest we can be as a church and as the people of God. We aren't perfect. We experience real brokenness and pain, but we have hope that things will get better if we rely on God. Not a double post...a re-edit

Exactly! I'm a pastor, too. And I think the same.

+Sharon Partridge Then turn to Jesus. Surrender to Him completely. He will never leave you or forsake you. Indeed, it is Jesus Who says, "28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30, New King James Version. Lay all your burdens down at the foot of the cross. Jesus, God the Son, lived a morally perfect life, died on the cross in our place for our sins as the Bible says, was buried, and rose again on the third day of His death just like He predicted and the Bible says. All you have to do is surrender all to Him, so that He can give you the rest, hope, and abundant life you seek and need.

i was introduced to this song by a pair of wonderful people who i had the privilege of being with for a wonderful week of strongly reconnecting with my faith and with nineteen other inspiring individuals around my age and this song makes me think of all of them constantly and i'm thankful to god that he brought me into the lives of all them.

How does one be an agnostic athiest??
@ahimsa91839 жыл бұрын
pursuing222 "Agnostic atheism, also called atheistic agnosticism, is a philosophical position that encompasses both atheism and agnosticism. Agnostic atheists are atheistic because they do not hold a belief in the existence of any deity and agnostic because they claim that the existence of a deity is either unknowable in principle or currently unknown in fact." Hope that helped :)

Doesn't one cancel out the other? Thanks for the reply though! I don't get it but thats ok
@TheBukoStudio9 жыл бұрын
pursuing222 It's very simple. An agnostic atheist is someone who doesn't believe in a deity but still believes that the existence of deities are possible but it's not guaranteed.
