In the early days of rocket sled operations, it was found that lubing the rails with petroleum products actually slowed it down due to it forming a rolling wave in front, Talc cured the problem and is still used as a lube.

Aliminium basically comes in two configurations. As a casting alloy and as a wrought alloy. Those aluminium extrusions (windows, 40x40 extrusions etc) are all not for casting. Great result btw.

That finish was great. I am amazed how thin it was in the end, well thought out with the gates. The wax sounds interesting good luck i look forward to seeing it.

I wasn't sure if the gates were going to work but i was hoping. In the 5FDP logo video it was apparent that having a long thin part fail showed me something had to change. More aluminum had to be added in a different manner. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

You are doing amazing casts! Ii don't think I have ever seen such good casts here on youtube with sand! I was wondering why you don't consider doing lost wax casting for such smooth and intricate details. Subbed.

Hey thanks for leaving a comment and subscribing, I appreciate it! I would eventually like to do some lost wax casting, but I have not filmed for a few months because I am in a desert. Its been too hot for me until now. I should start adding more videos soon and will figure something out with lost wax too. Thanks again.

That was a great outcome. Well done. Just found your channel. A thoughtful point of view. Make yourself some tongs. Picking up the crucible like that is not good. It can break right off. I’m impressed with your safety gear, only takes one (incident I’m I right). Looking forward to seeing more.

I agree with you, I started making lifting tongs and I want to make sure that I make something that is the best I can build. Also, it is a little difficult since the gap between my crucible and the wall of the furnace is limited in my case. I am hoping in the next several videos I will have something completed. Thanks for watching.

if you have a runner and a riser you will get a better fill and it pushes out all the air. All in all you will get a much better product.

Next time I will throw in a riser instead of an air vent at the top of the spin trap. Thanks for leaving a comment.

I'm new to pouring. Every time I "pound" the clay into the mold, the clay "cracks" in certain places. It usually doesn't crack or split, where I was using the hammer. When I add more clay, it still happens. Is it possible I'm pounding too hard on the hammer? Thank you in advance.

Watching your video now. Just wanted to mention all baby powder isn't the same. You need the one that says talc 😁. That's what I use. Definitely get to foam Casting. You'll love it. If you need any help with it let me know. I'm sure you've seen some of my videos.

I have looked in my area and my stores don't sell the Talc kind of baby powder but I will keep looking though. I bet you have found it cheaper as baby powder than I find it as tire talc. Also, thank you for offering to be a resource for helping me in foam casting. I might take you up on that. Yes and I definately watch your videos. I dont think I see a CNC machine in my immediate future but I will probably do hot wire cutting. Your foam casting on your channel turns out great. Thank you.

@@DamonsMetalCasting do a search for talc baby powder. I just read J&J will stop selling it in 2023. It might be hard to find now.

YO HICE UN MOLDE CON CEMENTO BLANCO PARA HACER MAS LISA EL MOLDE. PERO AUN ASI ME SALIO MAL CON POROS Y NO SE LLENARON TODAS LAS CAVIDADES
@DamonsMetalCasting
@DamonsMetalCasting 6 ай бұрын
I put this in google translate and I hope it worked. I am reading that you made a mold out of white cement. I am not sure what happened since I use store manufactured Petrobond (sand bonded with oils and binders). I have seen investment casting / lost wax casting in a special type of plaster. Those types of castings a vacuum is created and the air is removed so the metal can flow into the mold/cavity. I am giving my best guess.

On my castings I try to minimize pores/pitting by several things. I use band new petrobond for facing sand so band new sand is in contact with the part, the rest of the sand can be reused petrobond for packing. The mold is packed as hard and tight as I can get it. I have a tapered sprue to reduce air entrapment and a spin trap to help collect loose sand. The part has several gates and a couple of air vents. After the pattern is removed I light blow out all the lose sand. The aluminum I use is scrap that has been previously used for casting such as car parts. Aluminum cans do not work well for casting. Good luck I hope this helps. Sorry I can't read Spanish and I have to translate it.

I never have good results with aluminum; I'll have to give Hard Drives a chance. Where do you got your scrap Hard Drives?
@DamonsMetalCasting
@DamonsMetalCasting Жыл бұрын
I obatined my hard drive chassis from a friend at work that used to work at another job in IT. I have also went to recycling facilities that take cans. Sometimes those facilities will sell back metal to you. I have purchased cast aluminum car parts and they also work as well. I have a car rim that was picked up from the recycling facility but I have not had a chance to try a melt with it yet. Usually most parts that have been cast before should work. In my videos I leave out the prep of the pattern because its not exciting to watch and people skip over it anyways. But surface prep is huge too, the pattern needs to have a real slick suface to it. After alot of primer filling and sanding I coat my parts with professional rustoleum it seems to make a good smooth surface for casting. Good luck and thanks for watching.

did you make your own spru and feeder or can you buy them
@DamonsMetalCasting
@DamonsMetalCasting 6 ай бұрын
I made those parts in tinkercad. There should be a download that I made public in tinkercad I think I named the file spin trap and sprue. The sprue needed a bit of sanding after I 3d printed it to fit properly into the feeder. I also sanded and painted the parts so they would be smooth when pulled out of the sand. There might be other people's 3d stl files in thingaverse if you search that too for feeder, spint trap, and sprue. Thanks for watching my videos.

I have purchased my 190 mesh Petrobond from Amazon in the largest quantity they sell. Its cheaper the more you buy. I have seen online jewelry supply stores sell it too. Most of the time I see it for $3-$5 a pound depending on the quantity you purchase. Thanks for watching!
