Kentuckians are very proud of our country music roots. We have put out many fabulous singers, and I hope that we continue to do so.Many got their beginnings in church, which is lacking in today's world. The correlation between church and music is what made country music.Someday, country music might make a come back.R.I.P. Keith. We love you, brother.

I just want to thank you for posting this. While I appreciated it before, I appreciate it even more now. Granny Daisy passed away May 1, 2012 and this is an easy way for me to hear her voice again. Sometimes I become angry with myself for not saving her voicemails whenever I knew she was sick, but at least I can access this video and have her back if even for a few seconds.

I 2 am from Sandy Hook & there will never be another like Keith. He totally represented us. His family is the sweetest, most respected family to ever hit "the charts"! His mom, Faye is the sweetest person you could ever hope to know & his brother Dwight is a wonderful singer 2. 1 that nobody ever mentions is Randy, the brother who passed before, he was a wonderful person 2. God was SOOO gracious in giving us this entire family. I thank him every day to have given me the opportunity to know them!

Thank you for the correction. Knowing my own sadness over his loss even all these years later, I can't imagine how you must feel.

Keith had the greatest country voice of all time. No one sang with the raw emotion of the great Keith Whitley.... that is what made him so great. No slick productions, just a very talented man that projected his feelings to the listeners, the way very few can. God bless you Keith. MAMsMom97: Ignore the ignorant. They can't appreciate greatness. They don't have a clue. God bless you, too.

You're absolutely right. Even tho I continued to work in country music up until the fall of '91, I just couldn't relate to anything that was released post-May 9th. As many others did, I compared everything released after that date to Keith's material, and nothing measured up. I don't reckon I'll ever see another artist in my lifetime that will have the impact on my life that Keith had and continues to have. Thanks for your comment.

How interesting! I had no idea this was out on the web. It's been years since I've seen a clip like this. I'll have to tell my grandma she's on KZfaq (Daisy, the lady speaking at the first part). I was five in '89 when he died and I can remember crying. Fay, his mother, and my grandma had always been best friends. I lived in Sandy Hook for about 23 years out of my 24 year old life, and I only recently moved away. It's a small town, but it has it's own moments. =)

Your comment was just what I needed today. I assure you, the wonderful, positive comments left for me about how Keith affected their lives far outnumber the kind that son8god8damn left, and I take great consolation in that. The nasty comments still shock, that never goes away even after all this time. But I'm so thankful that I've been able to not only use this outlet to express myself, but to have been accepted by members of Keith's family has been a blessing. Thanks, & have a blessed day.

I agree, friends. Ernie Thacker's song "Keith How Many" is the #1 greatest tribute to Keith ever laid down on a disc. I have the studio version, and the lyrics are absolutely beautiful!

I loved everything he did, especially "My Home Ain't in the Hall of Fame" with J.D. and the New South but his solo career was well on his way to superstardom.

Wow! Daisy is your grandma? Cool! I'm making another pilgrimage back to Sandy Hook on Labor Day weekend. Does your grandma still keep contact with Faye since she moved to Carter County?

I don't know much about Bobby's dad. But there's no denying that's Mary's boy! He looks so much like Keith--Look at those cheekbones, that smile!

I am giving it some serious thought. If I can, I will contact Ernie's sister and get permission to post it. Thanks!

Well said... uh, I mean sniffed. All kidding aside, Keith's nephew's comment and the way his smile disappeared and his face turned sad really said it all. Didn't he look like a young Keith? The eyes, the cheekbones, etc.?

Keith was more than great and i am a raging alcoholic how can you go from lucid to almost 5 times the legal limit in a hour did anybody look at fool play and dont give me the he drank 409 defense if he did..... he needed help for a long time before that ,,,,,,,, and then i say shame on you but one has to fix ones self i just think the alcohol level for 1 hour is a lie shame on you

tony ishmael something isn't right. I don't think we'll ever know. He had breathing problems. I've had them too. I'm sure he wasn't "sober" like they say he was. He either stopped breathing in his sleep or there was foul play. I hope it wasn't foul play.. Just thinking about that keeps awake at night.. I'm an alcoholic and I know it should be illegal.

I don't believe he was, I refuse to believe that. The 3 times I've traveled the 400 miles to Sandy Hook, I've always found the locals to be very kind and accommodating to out-of-towners. It's a shame people like Judge David Blair forgets all the good things Flo & Dwight have done to bring revenue to your area by drumming Flo out of her job at the Visitors Center & changes the locks on her office door 'cuz she won't give him press in your local paper everytime he lets a fart. THAT's a true friend

So who owned Keith Whitley? Not Sandy Hooks. Keith owned his own demons. But he was a Hell of a talent that certains would pass by Sandy Hooks, BUT never forget it. I for one, am glad I know about Sandy Hooks! And that's thanks to Keith Whitley and his wonderful legend! Thanks for listening.... :)

You're pathetic. Don't you think his family gets on KZfaq and watches these videos and the responses left on them, or don't you care? You apparently don't. You apparently don't have any respect for yourself, much less for the good people that makes Sandy Hook a great place to visit. Even the username you hide behind shows me you don't even respect God!
