Drone video shot on April 10, 2024 showing construction on the Sanford Dam. Unfortunately, the only time I had available today was in the morning when the sun makes lighting a little more difficult for videography.
Contractors have been working diligently recently with filling the dam’s tailrace. The tailrace is no longer needed due to the dam no longer creating hydroelectric power. Filling this area with concrete adds weight to the dam to prevent uplift.
In hydroelectric dams, the tailrace is the channel that carries water away from a hydroelectric plant. The water in this channel has already been used to rotate the turbine blades and is channeled back into the river.

I am overjoyed to see the tremendous progress on the Sanford Dam. I know the reconstruction has not started in earnest, but we are beginning to see the future. Out of the disaster are brand-new facilities that will last for generations, all being managed by an organization dedicated to the lakes and people surrounding them. To get this far so fast is a major accomplishment for the Four Lakes Task Force. Thank you Tri-City Droneography for showing us this progress.

Happy to share. It’s good for the community to be able to see what’s going on. Gives me a little practice flying and editing the videos. Maybe someday I’ll get a little formal training instead of trial and error!

I just discovered this channel. I've been following this projecton another channels live cams, but your drone videos are fantastic. I, for one, certainly hope that you continue to provide these great aerial views. Thank you!

He probably got "Burned Out" on the self reporting and thought, to a certain degree, that stationary cameras were a better option now, however limited they are. At least the Secord Lk Camera shows a better angle. Sanford camera not showing much, other than breaking up concrete and dirt removal. These drone shots at least give a current View of whole Project. Kudos for that!

Another great update, just wish someone would explain what will happen and the flow of the river.

Flow of the river will eventually run the same as it did prior to 2020. It was routed through the breached area to allow work to be done on the powerhouse / spillway area of the dam.

I thought the plan was to use the powerhouses water channels as a low level water outlet to discharge water in the winter months? I think that's what they're doing at Secord and Smallwood.

Thank you. Question why they poured yards of new concrete and then a little over a year later rip it out. Thank you for the continual updates.

I was thinking something similar, but after a few months of watching them tear out the old dam, I haven’t seen any of the new concrete actually get torn out yet. Just the old stuff that was around it

@@staleybrad they are working, not sure exactly, and road commission has removed M-30 bridge and is working hard on it. Secord and Smallwood are also hard to see, but they are working. Mowbrey's cameras don't give a very good view these days.

@staleybrad How come they rebuilt so much of it, even pouring all NEW cement, only to completely tear it all out and destroy that part now and redo it? How much money was wasted to do all that, and why?
@staleybrad
@staleybrad 3 ай бұрын
I wondered the same thing, but honestly from what I’ve seen the new cement has gone untouched, just the old cement that divided the spillways has been removed so far

Up until this recent round of construction, the Four Lakes Task Force had only received money for stabilization NOT construction. They needed to make sure the existing old structure could handle another major flooding event without causing more damage. They tried to use this stabilization money as effectively as they could based on their submitted plans, but remember, these plans had NOT YET been approved. If there had been any delays in approval, this stabilization needed to last indefinitely. Fortunately, thanks to the hard work of the Four Lakes Task Force, their plans were approved, and money then started to flow in to start the reconstruction.
