What is the main use or reason for this dam? Just curious I'm not one of those tear down the dams looney. Dams have a purpose or multiple jobs to perform. Also where is this located? I'm Eastern Washington state a couple miles where the Snake River joins the Columbia River here we have four dams with locks and hydropower plants. Known as the four lower Snake River Dams also they equipped with fish bypass systems groups from the far left have set their sites on them for removal to save the local Orca pods in Puget sound. It's a stupid argument they lacking facts but like other looney lefty causes even though it's very small percent of a percent but they squeak a lot and loudly while the rest have to work for living, And Democrats politics don't play on level field, they want to remove four facilities that are as green energy as it gets.

This particular dam is in Gladwin County, Michigan. Which is kind of smack dab in the middle of our lower peninsula. The dam was originally constructed for hydroelectric, but in 2020 we had a series of dam failures. This dam was affected, but not as severely as a couple of the others. The newly constructed and or upgraded dams in the chain of lakes are being built to restore the lakes that were previously there. Unfortunately, the hydroelectric capabilities aren’t being restored.

Nice ariel as usual. Stationary LIVE CAM, even though nice to have, can't compete with your Drone footage. Now that these gate walls going up, blocks alot of the views of work being done. Thanks for your time for us to view the project from the air. Happy 4th of July to You and Fam 🎆🇺🇲

Superb drone flying. That first 4 minute shot is epic! Great work. Really helps to see angles that the live cam doesn't cover. Any chance you could shoot the staging area away to the South West please? Used to be a cat park in the old days.

It's nice when there's not a Work Crew so you have free range to video w/o disturbing any work being done. One of your Best Videos! They don't put full days of work anymore, probably cause of the "Money Issue". Secord Dam looks to be almost Complete now, with water flowing through the New Spillway! Just a few workers round the dam area tweeking stuff. Most if the landscaping seems to be done. Anyways, nice job on the Video! You're gettn' very skilled with the Drone now. Enjoy Summer

I’ll be happy if my drone even works by the time things are done on these dams! U.S. House just passed a bill aiming to ban CCP (Chinese Community Party) drones in the United States, which could retroactively eliminate the thousands of dollars in drones that I’ve invested in. Politicians claim that they are afraid of CCP using consumer drones for spying. They are also trying to get citizens to buy American made drones. Unfortunately, there isn’t a US drone manufacturer that is anywhere near putting out the quality of drones that DJI makes.

Ha! Thanks - it can get pretty nerve wracking. Especially when you see cables / wires or other small objects last second… My newest drone that I’ve using has some top of the line obstacle avoidance, but… I’d prefer not to test it. I see videos of people “testing” the sensors in wooded areas with small branches and what not. Those folks clearly have more money to gamble than I do!

Unless plans have changed, the emergency spillway will be approximately where the river is currently re-routed. This new bay going in at the opposite end of the spillways from the old powerhouse is either going to be a seventh spillway with a crest gate or perhaps a low level water outlet for passing flows in the winter. I thought they would be using the passageways in the powerhouse to do that, but seeing as they've completely filled in the tailrace with concrete they've either abandoned plans for a low level outlet or are going to incorporate one into a spillway. Really wish FLTF would post the final design on their web site to clear this up. The design posted before all the construction started has 8 spillway gates and a powerhouse that was half as long as the current building. But the building appears to be retaining it's current footprint so designs have changed at least somewhat since then.

Things have really ramped up here at Sanford Dam. Getting a 360° areial view puts the project in perspective. Looks like Legal Matters are gonna slow things down, it sounds like. Work here at Sanford will continue till end of year and then a "Full Stop", unless matters get resolved in Court. Secord Dam almost finished, but they too, shutting down shortly! Sounds like a mess with Property Owners vs Construction Costs! Sis and Hubby were up at their place at Secord Lake area (Tib River). Said locals not sure what's to come! Sad. Pontoon remains in the garage (Brand New-bought wk before catastrophe of dam systems. But, your areials are enjoyable to view from above. Thanks for your Time sharing!

Thanks for this video update on the progress of the dams. I still can’t believe this all happened since I came out here to Colorado. Living in Gladwin we used to bring the kids and our friends, and their kids out there to the park right there during the summer. They are in they’re 20’s now. Lol. I’m glad it’s all coming back together. My grandparents lived right on the river. It rounded through my grandpas farm fields and we used to go there for summer vacation when I was a kid living up in Fife Lake, Mi by Traverse City. It was always fun going there for a couple of weeks every summer. I’m pretty sure his old house would have been destroyed by the water. Anyways this is great. Thank you a bunch for doing these videos. It’s my only way to see what is going on until I make it back to Michigan. I like Colorado, but I love Michigan!

I certainly wish they had incorporated flood control into the design by incorporating upstream controls rather then just reacting by dumping and flooding downstream.
