Sanford Dam Construction 03/18/2024 - Drone video shot in 4k

Drone video showing the progress being made at the Sanford Dam shot on March 18, 2024. The video was shot using DJI Air 3 in 4k 60fps.
I would wager a bet that my next video of the dam will show the cement partitions in the spill way either being knocked down or gone altogether.

Excellent video!! Thanks for sharing. What some folks haven't seen is the ongoing permeation grouting to seal up the coffer dams. In the Sanford Dam Webcam you can see what looks like tracked drilling rigs. These are actually drilling down to where the water seeps through, and then they pump in a bunch of grout. This has greatly reduced the amount of water seeping past the coffer dams. Slow work, but they'll eventually get it sealed up as much as possible. It looks like they've also started to pack the riverbed with clay on the downstream side to prevent groundwater from seeping up.

I heard that there is now a appeal in court so after this stage things might come to a halt. Great update though, nice coverage

Balk of the Water is flowing in the intended direction, BUT, seems a "bandaide" approach is being used to contain water within walls of both sides of the dam, using pumps. Not sure it (walls) was expected to keep things dry around dam work area, or a "Fail" in the engineering process! Looks like a dry area being built, w/pumps, so the rebuild can Start! Dam walkover has been removed. Curious if this delays things here, with all this added work going on. Nice ariel though!

Does anyone know when this portion of the dam rebuild will be completed and the water begins to run through the dam?

You would win that bet as at least 1, possibly 2 partitions were demolished by the end of the work day. Not exactly sure what the purpose of dumping all that sand on the downstream side. It's either just for having a work surface above the level of the water and muck, or they're going to be pouring more concrete and extending that apron that they poured when they were doing the stabilization work.

Who knows! Contractor seems to be changing course of Action on this Project alot. They probably didn't expect to see that much water seepage on both sides of dam with all that shoring up work they did! Don't think they have a handle on it other than pumping excess water to the other side of retaining walls (both sides). Think sand is just making a work base. Water pumps seem to be part of the Solution for now! Stay Tuned....!

Why rebuild this dam? I do not understand why all the work and money is being put into it. Unless it currently makes power there is no point for the dam to be there in the first place.
