Julio was such a great character! His facial expressions, so lively and body language all came together. It was Redd Foxx who actually bought Julio into Sanford. They must have known each other well.

Today, if they did this scene, They would have to cut the "red" part of the shangrila (sangria) because it is Republican colors and may resemble "MAGA" criminal hats. They would have to cut the "Negro" part because it sounds like the N word and it is racist. They would have to change Lamont to another name because they would cite that "Lamont" was a slave name. They would have to cut "ripple" because that would stereotype poor black neighborhoods.

They were the best! More realistically funnier than the 50's & 60's and not trashy like later generations. Not too offensive, yet people could still stereotype and poke fun without outrage from the snowflakes.

Seen this scene many dozens of times since it first aired, and I pretty much know the lines by heart. This time I watched it with the sound off, just concentrating on facial expressions (especially Fred's) and I still laughed out loud. Props also to Gregory Sierra's Julio character for his cool, calm demeanor while interacting with Fred. Great acting from everyone. Classic comedy!
