Shit. Just when I thought my tools and shop were cool, I had to see this. Man, this is probably the best maintenance video I’ve ever seen. I only hope I have other stuff that you do and that you keep making videos. Not only did I learn how to do this job right, but I learned some German, and that my tools suck. Danke. This video is amazing. Leave it to the Germans to totally blow away my expectations.

Video greatly helped me do my service. Had developed some play in rear of bike. Found out one of the flanged axel heads had cracked in the frame. Almost couldnt get the axel out. SC also sold out of the axels but I called and they mailed me one for free.

Wollte mich auch mal herzlich für das Video bedanken. Habe den Service jetzt beim Bronson und Heckler meiner Frau gemacht, dank des Video super easy 👍👍. Das mit dem Loctite auf den Gewinden war mir im Tech Sheet von SC auch aufgefallen, habe es aber auf Grund deiner hier schon genannten Erfahrungen auch erstmal weggelassen. Wir haben beide Räder neu gekauft und ich meine, da ist auch noch nie ein Tropfen Loctite drauf gewesen. Und interessanter Weise wird im Manual "Upper Link and Lower Link Bearing Replacement" auch kein Loctite verwendet 🤷‍♂. Also, vielen Dank noch mal 🔥🔥

Hi Thomas, super freut mich wenn es dir geholfen hat. Mit Loctite sollte man sehr sparsam umgehen. Zieht man die Schrauben nach Drehmoment an, löst sich da in der Regel auch nichts. Den Service würde ich 2x pro Jahr machen. Man kann bei SC nur im Techsheet vom jeweiligen Bike also in den Explosionszeichnungen meist herauslesen, dass man Loctite verwenden sollte. Aber wie gesagt wenn man den Service 2x pro Jahr macht löst sich i.d.R. auch nichts. Ride on 👍

Die Idee, die WERA-Klettbox direkt in den Schaumstoff in der Schublade einzulassen, find ich super. Hab selber einiges von WERA und wusste bisher nicht wohin 😂 Danke für die Anregung! Echt ein klasse How-to! 👌🏻 Edit: Dee Schmiernippel erleichtert so einen Service ungemein! Schön zu sehen, dass Santa Cruz an sowas gedacht hat!

Du glaubst nicht wie ich mir den Kopf darüber zerbrochen habe 😂 aber schau mal auf Instagram bei Toolboxwars da findet man immer tolle Anregungen für Werkzeugaufbewahrung. Ja es ist wirklich super das man einen Schmiernippel hat, nur sind die Anleitungen dazu von Santa Cruz nicht mehr up to date und es ist eher schlecht beschrieben. Laut Santa Cruz soll man nur frisches Fett einpressen und das alte Fett bleibt laut Anleitung drin 🤦🏻‍♂️

lol he forgot to clean the collet threads and its corresponding frame threads, and remove grease and apply BLUE LOCKTITE! You also forgot to apply locktite to smaller screws that go into collets..

Super - vielen Dank für das gute Video - damit fällt der VPP Service echt leicht. Kleiner Tipp noch: Niemals einen Drehmomentschlüssel "nachklacken" lassen. Sobald es einmal klick macht, ist das korrekte Drehmoment erreicht.

Nachtrag: Das Gewinde der Achsen sollte ebenfalls nicht mit Fett eingeschmiert werden, da es das Anzugsdrehmoment verfälscht und man dann ein zu hohes Drehmoment nutzt. Weiterhin schreibt Santa Cruz die Verwendung von Schraubensicherung mittelfest auf den Achsen und Sicherungsschrauben vor.

Ive got a Tallboy 4. Noticed a little play in rear of bike. Hard thing to isolate with complicated linkage on LLVPP. Decided to service lower link to figure out problem. The pivot axles are made of light aluminum and have flanged heads. The pivot axle closest to the crank cracked right at the flange. SC bikes being a great company mailed me a replacement for free. Would have been much harder to resolve without this video.

What’s the point of the 5mm cone bolt washer bolt? It threads into the axle part so if you accidentally slightly over tighten it; it should be okay? Just loosen off and torque to the 9nm? Shouldn’t affect the carbon as it threads into the axle and not actually coming in contact with the frame?

I don‘t know where you located but in Germany you can buy the XHP222 online in a few shops. Put the gun into the grease and pull the lever on your grease gun.

There was a lot of grease on 2 bearings here, the other 2 did not get so much. Will it be better when you unscrew the setscrew?

If you pull out the main bolt there is enough grease on it. Important is the fresh grease inside. outside only a light layer

Hey thank you for your feedback😎👍🏻 The torque for the nipple is 9Nm but I don’t know at the moment if you need a 7,8,9 or 10mm socket 😬

Hammer Video, vielen Dank. Könnte ich mit einem flexiblen Schlauch auch das Fett ein pressen ohne die Achsen auszubauen. Funktioniert wahrscheinlich nicht aber ich frag trotzdem.

Danke dir. Das kommt auf deinen Rahmen an. Wenn der Schmiernippel von außen frei zugänglich ist, kann man das freilich machen. Meist ist jedoch eine Strebe im Weg und einfach Fett nachpressen ohne Reinigung der Aufageflächen halte ich für keine gute Idee. Das Fett drückt dich dann an den Beilagscheiben nach außen und das ist wieder ein Magnet für Schmutz, Steinchen etc was wiederum zu Geräuschen führen kann

Hey. Danke nochmal für das Video. Hab jetzt schon zum zweiten Mal geschmiernippelt. Aber hast Du einen Tipp wie man das Fett gescheit in die Fettpresse kriegt. Hab da nicht wirklich eine Idee. Ansaugen geht gar nicht. Reindrücken auch nicht so richtig,…. Wie machst Du das?

Ich sauge das Fett normal mit der Presse auf. Oder ich nehme eine kleine Spachtel und fülle die Fettpresse damit.

Do the threads on the axels need to have thread lock on them?

Santa Cruz recommended thread lock but if you use thread lock take a maximum of one little drop on each thread and use a medium thread lock.

Laut SC soll ja noch Schraubensicherung auf die Gewinde der Bolzen und der kleinen Schraube - ist immer ziemlich popelig, kann man das eurer Meinung vernachlässigen?

Ich bin mit Schraubensicherung vorsichtig. Nimmt man das falsche oder zu viel davon kann es Probleme geben beim Ausbau der Schrauben. Die Gewinde müssen nach ein paar Anwendungen auch wieder gereinigt werden. Ich habe es noch nie erlebt, dass sich eine Schraube gelöst hat egal ob am Bronson, Nomad oder Hightower wenn man sich an die Drehmomente hält.

After 3 years of riding SC bikes I don‘t need loctite. I check the screws in spring and autumn when I have to do this service

And be careful with loctite if you use to much loctite maybe you have problems to loose the screws in the next service

@@MTBFichtelhills great video, i use a very small drop of loctite in the end of a toothpick and place on the threads of the hole on the drive train side of the bike, no chance of it getting anywhere it should not doing it this way.

Why put the bolts back in before adding grease, then taking them out? Look like it served no purpose.

If the bolts are out from the link the grease will fill your complete link and that‘s too much grease… but just try it out without the bolts in the link and see what happens 😉

You can do anything with your own bike and I don‘t say in this video you have to do all steps exactly like me. You can apply everything to your screws :-) The collet threads are cleaned and greased and I do this procedure since 5 years without locktite on SC bikes without problems. My first SC bike was 2 years old without a VPP service and I have to drill the screws because the locktite was completly fixed. In that case you have fun trust me 😉 If you do that service 2-3 times in a year you think it’s good to apply locktite every time?
