The train is meant to model the mid to late sixties. The 2 6 axle locos (the ones on each end) are Athearn models of Santa Fe SD39s and both are sound equipped. The paint scheme is referred to as dress blue or pinstripe, and preceded the more widely recognized yellow bonnet freight scheme that many Santa Fe freight diesel models come in.
The two 4 axles diesels in the middle are Kato models of Santa Fe GP35s, also in the pinstripe paint, which were built in 1962-63 or so. One of these is sound equipped and one has a non-sound DCC installation.
Finally the 2 bay hoppers are a mix of Athearn ready to run models and Accurail kits. They represent 50 and 55 ton capacity hopper cars that were the standard size until the 70 ton, 3 bay hoppers started replacing them in the late 50's and early 60's. Santa Fe was never a big coal hauling line (unlike the Rio Grande, for example) but nevertheless did move coal for customers, such as power plants, along its routes.

It's amazing so many people love trains enough to build something like this. Despite all the changes the railroads have gone through, especially since the 70s, people still love them.

This is MY No1 layout. It is the benchmark, the gold standard, the layout to compare others with. It is a joy to keep coming back to the videos I've already watched a few times before and yet discover new things. Bills videography is the cherry on the cake. Thank-you Bill Rogers. Please send us some 2020 ones. God bless.

It would be really neat to have a few critters in the woods, big foot would be cool, some bear, maybe some salmon in the river. I understand you are going for realism but l think it would be really interesting to have some well placed in the trees.

Very nice video while following the train around the layout! Thank you. Cell phones really don't work in this situation. Try a Digital SLR that can focus over a wider range, it will vastly improve the closeup video.
@jimsteinborn
@jimsteinborn Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment, though I'm not sure why you think it was shot with a cell phone. It was actually reciorded with a Sony FDR-AX35 Balanced Optical SteadyShot Handycam in 4k. I'm sure some of what you are seeing is due to poorlighting on some parts of the layout, and the video processing KZfaq does to make it more compact for streaming.

whiteknightcat when the nose of a train passes a signal, the signal turns to red to signify that a train is passes
@whiteknightcat
@whiteknightcat 4 жыл бұрын
@@kadebruce295 I watched it again and I saw what happened. The signal had been red but because of the editing, it was green only for a second or two before the train tripped it red again. Apparently I had looked away just at the moment of the edit and missed that momentary green in the video.

I guess the person holding the camera is only interested in locomotives and not in rolling stock? 20 Minutes of watching the loco's in a beautiful landscape, never showing the entire train passing by..
@billr991
@billr991 7 жыл бұрын
Viewer retention reports show that almost no one will watch all of the cars rolling by in a long train. I've tried it in other videos and it seems to bore viewers in to clicking off and watching someone else's video. However, I am considering posting two different edits of videos that have long trains; one with fairly short cuts, and one with intact, complete roll-bys.
