The Hidden Passage

Күн бұрын

The origins of Santa Claus, the personification of the Christmas season, are shrouded in mystery. We will cover three unorthodox alternative theories, firstly, that Santa was based on Siberian shamanism and hallucinogenic magic mushrooms, secondly, that he was derived from fairy folklore, specifically a Scandinavian elf called the Nisse, and lastly, that he is either the pagan god, Odin, or Saturn, also representing the astrological planetary body and its interaction with the sun during the winter solstice. Which, if any, of these is true, or is Santa some combination of all the above?
We also consider some spiritual beliefs regarding chimneys as a liminal space and axis mundi of the home, as well as ecstatic trance states which trigger interactions with archetypal supernatural entities and soul journeys.

I had been seeing mushrooms as ornaments and wandered why mushrooms would be something to decorate your tree. The title of your video caught my attention. In this modern age, people are so busy that we just do things (decorate trees or leaving cookies for thing we call Santa) that we generally don’t know the origins behind it. A reason for the burning of the Yule log was to prevent things like trolls or other unwanted creatures from coming down the chimney.

The Amita was not taken directly. The shamen would drink the reindeers urine after they ate the Amita Muscaria . Never eat it directly. They kept a careful eye on and those who herded the reindeer would harvest and feed the Amita directly to them then drink there urine.
@TheHiddenPassage8
@TheHiddenPassage8 6 ай бұрын
I had this assumption as well but actually I found that it was taken directly. Drinking urine may have been done for purifying the compound but actually it was also done simply to get more of it. People would drink their own urine after taking the mushroom and were able to get the effects again that way. Similarly since the reindeer liked eating the mushroom and would seek it out, their urine provided another source.

🤗Well done Thanks for the Pagan connection to Christmas 🎄. On the surface, the connection is obvious🫣 to people who read the Bible 🥰 But when we do read the New Testament we see Astrotheology, or Sun Worship aka Paganism, hidden in plain view. There are 40 days from Lent to the Spring Equinox, when we begin to see the lengthing of day to night. We should call it Lengt😮 not Lent. I sure wished you had mentioned, the historical Saint Nicholas was actually at the Council of Nacea with Constantine 😮 and got arrested for the beat down of a fellow guest, some heathen 🤕 Now that's bizarre 🎉

Interesting! Seems like it gets a bad rap since it can be harsh on the body and its effects are less psychedelic that psilocybin. Some people didn’t appreciate me glossing over the properties of the agaric but that’s for another video. Someday I will do a more in-depth study of hallucinogenic substances themselves.

This is a great video and really interesting. A lot of these traditions make sense, when comparing yesterday's and today's customs with each other. It's easy to see where modern ones come from, and the confusion it possibly caused. While I already knew about the Nisse/Tomten/Tomte, this is the first I've heard of the possible Siberian shaman connection. On a side note, the Sami people of northern Scandinavia, still do herd Reindeer. Absolutely beautiful animals. Anyhow, something is bugging me about those chimneys.... I'm having trouble "wrapping my head around" that, if the Siberian shamans were somewhat large and heavy and, if the doors of the homes were blocked by snow, why wouldn't the home owner just unblock the door? 😄It seems much more dangerous for the shaman (carrying a sack of gifts no less) to be climbing up on to the roof, which is covered in slippery snow and ice, only to try and climb down a chimney - which is likely dangerous in itself (I'm thinking mid-winter❄and fire 🔥for warmth, so the residents don't freeze 🥶) and equally slippery with soot. 🤔 And then he has to climb back up it again. 😶Also, I would think that small houses would not need a very large chimney so.... how would they even fit inside them anyway? Honestly, it just boggles the mind. 😵‍💫😂 Just to clarify something: I'm not thinking of those gigantic victorian style homes, with the monstrous chimneys on top. I'm thinking of smaller, middle of nowhere, centuries old, country village style homes. 🎅🍄Anyway, Santa going down chimneys has pretty much bugged me most of my life, so this is really just a rhetorical pondering. 😄 Just something think about, I guess. Have a magical holiday and don't forget to leave some milk and cookies. 🍪🥛🎄✨⛄

Yea, it doesn’t make total sense when you think about it too much lol. It’s more of a possible scenario than actual historical evidence. It tries to wrap all the Santa elements into one neat package, when really it’s probably more complicated and involves multiple sources, combined with Moore’s own imagination. I decided to cover it anyway. I’m much more inclined to think there is a connection to fairy lore, and perhaps the muscaria mushroom as a facilitator of contact with them. This could indirectly link it to shamanism too. The chimney thing makes more sense as the folkloric motif of liminal space. Thank you. Good Yule, friend 🪵
@Greye13
@Greye13 6 ай бұрын
@@TheHiddenPassage8 I agree, it really doesn't make any sense as real history. I also agree that there's a whole lot more to it all, than what meets the eyes and ears. I've always been more inclined towards the fairy lore connection as well, and the Muscaria mushroom is likely involved in at least some of it. 😄I just feel that there's something about the fairy lore connection that we've either missed, or haven't.... payed much/enough attention to?! I'm not sure if that's the right phrase to use but yea, something like that. Fairy lore is quite intriguing. There must be something to it, if all of these different cultures, from all over the world somehow end up with the same/similar beliefs and stories - even though there was no contact between any of them, for many hundreds of years. 🤔 Oh, and yes, liminal space does make more sense when you think of it like that. Anyway, I could talk all day about these things. 😂 Thank you, for all of your time and efforts, to share these fascinating topics with us. And thank you my friend, a very Good Yule to you as well. 🌲🪵☀

From what I understand the peoples of this region lived in more yurt like or pithouse structures that the smoke hole for the central fire could easily have a ladder or stepping log set up for ease of access. The shamans would have to deal with a simple flap or trapdoor (if there were any) type contraption rather than a small columnar chimney leading straight into the fire. Note also they would be snowed in so there would be no need to climb up anything as the shamans would be on top of the roofs at ground level (or snow level haha)

Some of the information presented here is potentially confusing to the general public. For instance. going under the influence of the Amanita muscaria mushroom can in no way be likened to "tripping on 'shrooms". That phrase is a reference to the effects of Psilocybe mushrooms of various species. These mushrooms are unrelated and their psychoactive and physiological effects are very different. People that are interested in "tripping on 'shrooms" are well advised to avoid fooling around with the Amanita.

I wasn’t aware that colloquialism is exclusive to psilocybin. Anyway, thanks for clarifying the significant difference in effects. I do get that. However, it still causes distortions in perception at the very least. Most importantly, it was indeed used in ritual context to achieve trance states and contact the spirit world. So I just want people to understand that this doesn’t really devalue the theory itself.

in sweden before santa there was "julbocken" (christmas goat) which is a bit strange considering goats are usually associated with satan but perhaps the tradition went back before christianity. actually maybe thats the very reason that goats became associated with satan because they had to do with some pagan yule ritual? much like eating horse became a tabu because the pagans did it.
@TheHiddenPassage8
@TheHiddenPassage8 6 ай бұрын
You are correct. I definitely think it goes back to paganism in some way, even if we can’t trace its origins directly. It’s possible. I think mostly the depiction of the devil is attributed to the Greek god, Pan. There were several horned gods. I would like to look into some of those Yule characters. There’s a lot of interesting stuff there. Next year!

A. Muscaria isn't psychedelic - it's psychoactive. There is a major difference that the uninitiated need to know. Terrance McKinna saw machine elves while on DMT, not mushrooms. Please do more research after watching this person's video - he is not providing fully accurate information.

Accurate enough. People don’t need to know that to understand the theories I presented. Honestly I don’t care what it’s classified as. I showed in the vid and explained already that it causes hallucinations and in Siberian ethnographies there are many recorded encounters with “little people” while under its influence. Btw I didn’t say he saw them on shrooms. Again, doesn’t matter, since we are talking about the universal trance states and encounters with entities which are achieved through a variety of methods/ substances.
