When Santana the group started, Hendrix, Cream, the Beatles, Janice Joplin, The Doors, and so on were big, and all of a sudden this guy comes along with a latin based rock band, with spanish and english lyrics, no one heard that before. Pure magic

What about Ritchie Valens and La Bamba?
@robertrodriguez94459 ай бұрын
@@324cmac Good call, but Ritchie Valens, didn't have the aggressive sound like Santana, it was a sound no one heard before

This song is still as amazing today as it was when it came out.

❤❤❤ this whole album!!! The vocalist and keyboard player, Gregg Rollie, also was a founding member of Journey.

Santana's the cream of the crop! I still have this on vinyl after all these years.

I'm SO GLAD your reviewing THIS album! His 1st three releases are incredible. He got back to things when "Moonflower" was released, it's my favorite album from his. His jazz Fusion period after Santana III is an acquired taste, worked with John McLaughlin too😉

One of my favorite Santana jams. The light guitar towards the end could go on for hours and I'd be happy

I love this album. Santana is an immaculate guitar player, but he makes room for everyone in the band to shine.

I told you in my previous comment on 'Singing Winds Crying Beasts', this is my favorite track on this album however this whole album is a vibe. Greg Rollie on the Hammond B3 is a big part of the early ORIGINAL Santana Sound. Santana: Latin Jazz, Soul, Rock. Peace, my Northern Brothers.

You guys are correct they mixed latino, rock, jazzy sounds that made them different at the time and they did it so good

Travelling on the hippy trail in the late 1970s with a few precious cassettes - one was Santana Moonflower. Never failed to energise , chill and groove.. It was always Santana that everyone from everywhere loved. From Australia to Zanzibar and in between. Universal vibe.

Carlos learned his licks from the mariachi band that he grew up with. His phrasing is based on trumpet licks. That's why his sound was so different, yet familiar. Love your reactions. Keep it coming. Thanks. Peace.

The album "Caravanserai" has some brilliant tracks as well. "All The Love Of The Universe", "Stone Flower", and "Just In Time To See The Sun" among others. A very different sound for Santana that I love. Spacey jazz sort of. A must listen for Santana fans. A gem.

For true psychedelic bliss "Caravanserai" is on my list of best albums. We dropped microdots, drank rum and coke to smooth us out and left the rest to Carlos and his fellow musicians. "Santana 3" is out of this world as well.😊

@@martinellis7156 Haha my acid story is in the summer of 1973, seven of us all in our very early 20's, did some Orange Barrel and Sangria, and in between reading the 1970 Whole Earth Catalog's St. George and the Dragon corner story out loud over a microphone, we listened to Caravanserai over and over, with Eat a Peach and Thick As a Brick getting their turns in. I pretty much had a religious experience when Santana's "Song of the Wind" came on, and it's been my favorite Santana track ever since, even 51 years later! No more Orange Barrel, though. Yikes! 🤪 What stands out looking back is there were no cell phones or any means of communication with another person other than the house land line and talking to each other. Weird, huh? We were definitely more free without cell phones, but we've decided to curb some freedoms and embrace a little security for peace of mind. Well, actually Apple, Nokia, Qualcomm, Motorola, and the like spent a mountain of money and decided for us. Gotta have those shiny new objects! Ok, I admit it, I've been watching too many George Carlin reaction videos lately. Oooommmmm......mmmm.....mmm

This is such a great album! Of course he gives you a Latin vibe; he's a Latino. The "bongos" are congas and timbales.

This is probably my favourite Santana track. It covers all the territory I want from this band. It's got that incredible three piece percussion section hammering out a multi-layered groove, jazz fusion elements, great lead playing from Carlos, a rock edge to it and the change ups in the arrangement. It's magnificent.

Great reaction guys! This album, Abraxas, had so many styles & sounds - an absolute masterpiece in Latin-tinged rock! So many pieces, you just can't help but move and groove to it (and yes, grab your lady while doing so!) I bought this album on the merits of Black Magic Woman alone, but was floored at the variety and quality of songs on it - and this one was a standout treat! Cheers.

A lot of musicians like Santana were performing for the rock audiences but when you hear them interviewed you find out that they were listening to jazz artists as well as other rock artists. When I hear this track I here the influence of people like Miles Davis and John Coltrane as well as Motown and rock.

When one thinks about the times these musicians of the 60's 70's etc were children growing up and learning their instruments they had little choice but to learn from jazz and jazz musicians ( you can hear it clearly in drummers)....blues...and rock and roll. Oye Como Va is Santana covering Latin Jazz Master Tito Puente. I'm reminded of A video of Jack Bruce of Cream saying "Ginger (Baker) and I knew we were playing Jazz we just never told Eric(Clapton)"

A groundbreaking album that could have been released yesterday as it is timeless. It really put Santana on the map as a major musical influence that could be heard across the popular music spectrum, from Chicago to the Rolling Stones. Enhanced by the cover art by the visionary Abdul Mati Klarwein

I first saw Santana whn I was 7 years old back in 72. I have seen him several times since and I can say he never disappoint. My only advice is to see him at a venue that doesn't have a cutoff time. Carlos never has a setlist and he will just play until they unplug him.
