I went to a Santana concert, about halfway through their set I looked at the back of the stage and saw a man wearing blue jeans with a guitar sneak in, plug in his guitar and started jamming. I told my friends Eric Clapton just joined the band, everybody thought I was crazy. 3 songs later Carlos said "I'd like to introduce my friend that stopped by to jam with us, Mr. Eric Clapton. That was so awesome, they did some of Clapton's great songs and Santana's songs. Eric and Carlos side by side making their guitars sing.

@@othello106 Actually, I believe the entire album features guest performers. Santana wrote the music and the guest vocalists wrote the lyrics. It was a truly diverse group of performers representing a wide variety of musical styles...with Santana's unmistakable sound being the one constant on the album.

Rob Thomas was actually a far bigger name (as lead singer for Matchbox 20) than Santana was at the time this came out. This was a huge comeback album for Carlos, with different singers featured throughout the album.

BTW....Santana has been in the RRHOF since 1998. Also....you notice this is Santana featuring Rob Thomas.....Not Rob Thomas featuring Carlos Santana.

@@JFinSD2 I don't need any history lessons. I've been listening to Santana since his first album. I was born in '58 and had an older brother who got me into a lot of music also. Went from The Monkees into Steppenwolf, Hendrix, and Sabbath in very short time. When this came out, the current generation knew nothing of Santana, and Rob Thomas was big. Of course older people knew all about Santana, but I didn't think that required an explanation. Saying "at the time" should have been enough. Of course Santana was listed first. It was his album, with different artists featured throughout.

Still remember the Santana concert I went to, he tilted his head back and went on a solo storm for about 7 minutes...it was freakin GREAT!!!! Rob Thomas is actually one of my favorite frontmen..I really enjoy Matchbox 20, this is just a perfect pairing. Great u2!!!

Carlos Santana is a living legend. There are some guitar players who have their own unique identifying style, like Eddie Van Halen, SRV, Mark Knopfler and Carlos Santana, to name a few. You can hear a song with them in it and may not know the song but as soon as you hear the guitar parts, its "Oh, thats (fill in the blank). Cool."

The song was on the same album as this...SUPERNATURAL, as Asia's talking about. Duets with a number of different people including Rob Thomas and Eric Clapton....from the late 90s. Whole album is great! Santana was one of the great acts at Woodstock in '69. He is a classic. Has a new album with several duets, another with Thomas and JOY with Chris Stapleton! Take listen.

I remember hearing this song on the radio for the first time, shortly after it came out and mistakenly thinking that, because of it's old school sound, it must have been an older classic that I thought I must have somehow missed. When I found out that it was a new song, at that time, I started thinking of it as an "instant classic".

Santana's music was always played on the rock stations when I lived in Los angeles. the radio station KISS actually used to be a rock station back in the '70s & maybe thru the 80s. Carlos Santana was born in Mexico.

I first was exposed to Santana with their performance at Woodstock ..Summer 1969. I was blown away by two of their songs .. Persuasion, and Soul Sacrifice. The band's energy was crazy.

Rob Thomas is the lead vocal for the group ‘Matchbox 20’. They had a hit called ‘3am’ in 1997. In 1999, Thomas teamed up with legendary guitarist Carlos Santana on this song ( smooth ) which gained popularity very quickly.

Santana is an icon " I'll be waiting" , " Make somebody happy" live in Mexico is my favorite version of that song " Bella" such a beautiful song

First - I love you two! ...so enjoy listening & seeing y'all smile. I remember when this Santana album was released - I was painting my kitchen & I had it on auto replay. lol. To think how many 'new' people dig the music & I was there at so many of the performers you've covered in person. Peace & Love Always.

Maria Maria is a Carlos Santana song. Smooth is from the same album supernatural. It was released in 1999. He's always has guest artists and musicians on his albums. Rihanna sampled Maria Maria on her song wild thoughts. Santana is rock with Latin and jazz fusions. he's also in the top twenty for greatest guitarists of all time.

One of my favorite parts is at <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="405">6:45</a> when Carlos does the sigh of the cross. I picture him thinking “Please lord let me resist this temptation dancing in front of me.”

The song Asia was singing "You remind me of a West Side Story" is a Santana song. Santana did collaborations with different artists for that album Supernatural. The name of the song is "Maria Maria"
