Thanks - about to go on a Ry Cooder bender. Been many years since I immersed myself in his music... maybe I should throw some JJ Cale in the mix!
@rosslarsen61446 жыл бұрын
What I like about this combo is the approach of the two is so different. Ry sort of sneaks in on you passively and draws you into it. While Santana is more direct and hitting you in the face with it.

This is an absolutely great video. This is a guitar players video. Steve Miller, one of the founding forces in San Francisco in the late 60's, along with Carlos, is one of the most underrated guitarists in rock. They all played with passion and musicality. I watched it twice. Thanks for posting.

I found a list of the personnel elsewhere. These musicians deserve credit. Carlos Santana - guitar, percussion, vocals; Alex Ligertwood - guitar, percussion, vocals; Chester Thompson - keyboards, vocals; Karl Perazzo - percussion, vocals; Raul Rekow - percussion, vocals; Walfredo De Los Reyes - drums; Myron Dove - bass; Jorge Santana - guitar; Ry Cooder - guitar; Steve Miller - guitar; Norton Buffalo - harmonica .

Dam good tunes, and makes you wonder why something like this doesn't get more mainstream attention, because a lot of people are missing out on something especially special. Most people aren't aware that Steve Miller can play some serious blues. Even larger numbers don't have a clue who Ry Cooter is even though he was a big influence on a lot of guitarist that came along long after he had been playing for many years. Sad that someone with his talent didn't get the recognition that he deserves. Carlos, well he is hard to not know about, from all different styles of music lovers Excellent band playing with them, but if you listen to this then you know this to be a fact.
@timothymilam7325 ай бұрын
Dam good tunes right here. Shame Ry wasn't as well known as he should have been as he was one of the best. Steve Miller wasn't known as a blues player by majority of the people who listened to his music. Don't have to say anything about Carlos, as he made himself a well known since Wood Stock, and just got better as the years went by. Thanks for posting excellent tunes

the older i get the more i respect Steve Miller for being the guy he is/was on sessions. Imagine being him. Great guy. Taught by T Bone Walker. Real & true blues man. Santana then, Cooder, of course, obviously. But Steve Miller is being marginalised as a musician in a way he does not not deserve.

Shoreline Amphitheatre (Mountain View, CA) Date Oct 10, 1992 The show-closing "Exodus," - yes, the Bob Marley anthem - is a get-down, all-star affair that includes Miller sideman, Norton Buffalo, on harp. The song's peculiar slow fade provides an anti-climax to an otherwise energy-bursting night, though with that said, you couldn't choose better exit music than "Exodus." Santana knows how to rouse a crowd and he knows how to calm them down; his impulse to conjure one of the great moments in freedom song was a fine way to keep the traditions of indigenous peoples all over the world alive and singing.

Cool beans lol or in my day "heavy gage " "far out " loved both these guys....been a fan of Ry since his first album. and Santana, my husband studied the piano but classical tut all our friends were musician's , but the coolest part was my husband was pres of his union at local university and the university owned a outdoor music festival.. and the Detroit Symphony It would be there summer home so not just rock and roll and jazz etc. It is small compared to other venues. OMG we got to see so many aritists the tickets could be upgraded to better seats for really cheap. If I am missing some letters or rearranged them ..Its that damn ADHD lol Been twisted for yrs since I met the " the damn hippies" my moms name for my friends lol Merry Christmas and Happy New Year all ;)

"Following this, the band is joined by guitarist Ry Cooder on "The Healer," originally recorded for the John Lee Hooker album of the same name. Carlos then invites Steve Miller to play some blues on the slinky "All Your Love" before everyone remains on stage to launch into "Sacred Fire," which turns into a completely psychedelic jam. The show-closing "Exodus," - yes, the Bob Marley anthem - is a get-down, all-star affair that includes Miller sideman, Norton Buffalo, on harp. The song's peculiar slow fade provides an anti-climax to an otherwise energy-bursting night, though with that said, you couldn't choose better exit music than "Exodus." Santana knows how to rouse a crowd and he knows how to calm them down; his impulse to conjure one of the great moments in freedom song was a fine way to keep the traditions of indigenous peoples all over the world alive and singing."...Liner notes from Santana's album recorded at Shoreline Ampitheatre 1992.

This is exactly my argument. Digital is just a summary of what actually happened. The original is a phenomal classic! You cannot capture it in bits & bytes. However it's a means [metaphore] to transcend that "time, feeling and emotion", that would have been lost for future generations that would ask the question "What was is like in....".
