It's been a while since I did some winch rescue training and the weather wasn't bad in North Wales this afternoon so me and my patient crew headed out to Tryfan to pick up a casualty and get them over to Gwynedd Hospital.
This flight uses the excellent Hype Performance Group H145 and Action Pack Expansion. The mission is created in the Scenario Editor that comes with the Action Pack Expansion.

Dropping the doc on the other side of the valley keeps the doc fit, so don't worry ;) Loved the video, makes me want to give choppers another try (cause you do not want to know how my first few tries looked like 🤣)

Very Good! In fact, I intend to rent a Primax VR headset soon because I think you're right about the VR situational awareness improvements when it comes to helicopters. BTW, in many ways, it can be more difficult to fly a helicopter in a simulator than in real life. Of course, if one makes a mistake in the former, it can also be a lot less costly! But my point here is that you handled the simulator helicopter very well. I think you can 'push it' a bit more when it comes to the take off technique, but otherwise, you may be pleasantly surprised at how well you would do with a real helicopter. If you were to go to one of the licensed helicopter schools, they'd probably give you a 'preview-ride' and once at a safe altitude, allow you to handle the controls to give you a 'taste' of the experience in order to entice you to sign on for acquiring your license. About 10 years ago, (give or take), I had a similar experience when I was the only person in a helicopter tour ride over Taos, New Mexico. It was a Bell 206B and long story, short; The pilot offered me the controls. I handled the cyclic & collective at first and then he allowed me the full control, pedals and all! FWIW Rich

@@Dreamsofwings Yes it was, and in my sincere opinion, I think you'd surprise the pilot that gave you the opportunity, I really think you have the patience and the light touch that it takes. I've always heard that old metaphor about how flying a helicopter is like "balancing a ball on the end of a stick while riding a unicycle". Frankly, I've never felt it was near as difficult as that comparison. However, I'm also pretty sure that if I tried, I wouldn't be able to balance a ball while riding a unicycle, LOL😄. Rich

Many thanks! PC is a little dated now in some respects but it still seems to do the trick. I7-8700k. RTX 3080ti 32gb DDR4 memory. Sim settings I have not done a huge amount to. Generally it’s ultra, TAA not using DLSS at the moment.

Great video, just downloaded the base and action pack along with the custom Wales Air Ambulance livery, still getting to grips with the controls of the aircraft but flys like a dream, haven’t done any missions yet, no doubt after a couple of hours getting used to the craft I’ll start a simple mission

@@Dreamsofwings Certainly will keep an eye out for your latest videos, I’ve been looking at getting the Airbus Thrustmaster Side stick, have you any experience on this, if not what are your thoughts on flight sticks?

@@ryjay9016 thanks! No I’ve not used the Airbus stick. I have the Thrustmaster Warthog grip on a Virpil WarBRD base and that works really well for me.

@@Dreamsofwings hey man, got a weird issue with my H145 hoping you can shine a light on it, it keeps showing MGB low pressure on the screen and fails to fly I lose my throttle completely, any ideas why?

@@ryjay9016 I’ve not seen that one but might be worth checking the failures and maintenance and carrying out all maintenance to see if that fixes it. Otherwise can highly recommend their Discord as the devs themselves respond incredibly quickly.

these are nice addons do you fly in vr? myself i couldn't fly in 2d but love heli,s ive been waiting for the november update, i also recently got a motions sim with transducers, that and vr its so alive loving the immersion looking forward to.flying in msf. with sone added missions like these makes flying have a purpose if you want more than sight seing

Yes and flying this in VR is on another level. Winching and looking over your shoulder to see the casualty being hoisted up to the side door is insane. You are very right regarding immersion. I use this as a break from flying warbirds to give me a different skill set and purpose.

Marvellous. I think ‘dummy causality’ might be the correct terminology. I didn’t know there was hovering aids (I need to read the manual!) it often goes a bit wrong for me when hovering. Quick question: what controllers do you use/recommend. Some kind of HOTAS setup? I’ve seen some great realistic controllers but at eye watering prices.

Thanks! Yes check out the GTC/GTC-H section, that’s the hover autopilot that you can still reposition. I prefer hand flying at the moment. I use a joystick (warthog grip on Virpil WarBRD base) , thrustmaster TPR Pendular pedals and the Honeycomb Bravo

@@Dreamsofwings No wonder you're having issues flying helicopters. You need something like the Warthog throttle. I myself use the X-56 Rhino for flying anything military and helicopters I find they have better precision that is needed for flying helicopters and you can really lighten the spring forces with the included springs that make it either heavier or lighter. I use the lightest weight spring with a zip tie add to make it even lighter so it feels more like hydraulically boosted flight controls. The Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo are only used for GA and airliners, though when the DCS:C-130 comes out they will be great for that.

@@ImpendingJoker I actually have no issue with the Bravo for collective and do have the Warthog Hotas but don’t use the throttle component. I do agree that for cyclic I could do with a specific helo stick that has no springs and its on my list.

The only addon scenery I am using is the RAF Valley and Bijan Four Seasons for the trees. Otherwise that is straight ‘out of the box’

@@angelblat yes luckily the real world helicopter landing pad is baked into the scenery nicely! This is Ysbyty Gwynedd (Gwynedd Hospital)

I use a virpil warbrd base with a Thrustmaster Warthog grip. Bravo quadrant (for collective lever) and TPR pedals. Will be getting an extended stick at some point to use with an old Thrustmaster base that I have for better control.
